Timmytimmy: I think you are missing the point .No one said getting tattoos are right or wrong. Lemme explain it this way.We have a certain number of things in Christianity that are non-negotiables for Christians...things like murder, fornication. These are the Law, they are ABSOLUTE MORAL LAW.
Did Jesus come to do away with them? Not at all, if anything, He set higher standards in a way that it would be impossible to fulfill by sheer force of will. He said"if you are angry with a person in your heart, you have committed murder","if you lust at a woman in your heart, you have committed fornication".
I'm pretty sure that the average Christian really doesn't struggle with murder. It is these little things like anger and lust that gnaw away at our souls.Jesus came to set a higher standard of life for us .
John Wesley said something I love: Laws are good for people that cannot follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit. If you have made a personal law for yourself that tatoos are bad, good and fine.Just be sure that the Judge of the whole world isn't obligated to follow our own laws.
Also, no one said we are to interprete laws to suit our personal beliefs. Zac Poonen usually says something: Each time you crack your bible open, do you see a tree of knowledge of good and evil or do you see a tree of life?......our choice. God bless. I do not think i missed any point(s) I actually read and digested thw comments on this issue and had declined to make any lenghty comments till my post you quoted. Somebody (mintayo) actually said tatoos are wrong and another said it depends on the reason/motive. while geographical location was also a determining factor in another post. I came to a conclusion that we need the holyspirit to interprete the scriptures since most of what we think may be our own personal view which can be influenced by a lot of factors; denomination, personal conviction etc. We may not be looking at this issues from Gods own perspective which is why I posted that @bolded statement 1.Its not a personal law its what i see in that scripture @bolded 2 we xtians do that a lot. It is because of the last two statements above I said lets ask what the holyspirit is saying about the scripture. All of us may be wrong. Except you can say categorically that this scripture was illuminated to me by the holy sprit as this. And honestly I dnt think thats too much for us tp do instead of going back and forth on this issue |
Christianity Etc › Re: The Christian Chatbox ( sticky) by yetseyi(f): 10:55am On Nov 01, 2014 |
owkie then.
theres nothing wrong wit tatoos right, ur personal beliefs which i still do not agree with.
Now its about the what for?
issorait but seriously scriptures are not open to personal interpretation. 2pet1:19-21. pls read.
most of what we ve done here is simply analogies. what we feel that leviticus scripture should/ may mean.
All scripture is inspired by holy spirit abi. lets ask the holy spirit for interpretation of that place
And he s always there to guide us. |

Esdb: Dnt accept that yet abeg I have replied her never accepted or intend to accept the statement, just wanted to know why she thinks its not a sin. vickyO: Just like money, when I use it to glory in the flesh it then becomes a sin... Lemme give you this illustration... I'm in a bus and let's say someone sees a scribbling on my skin and asks what it says. I then tell him its a verse of the Bible that says I can't be condemned because I have Christ. Through that medium I can share the Good news of Christ. Just like a means of Evangelism... I am not forcing this on anyone, I believe in personal convictions and also cohabiting with fellow believers in unity. If my having a tattoo will cause another to stumble, I'll just not have it. vickyO: Just like money, when I use it to glory in the flesh it then becomes a sin... Lemme give you this illustration... vickyO: If I inscribe Love or Grace or Christ on any part of my body, it's same as having a tattoo of Love, Grace, or Christ on me.
Tattoos is not a sin in itself but becomes a sin when we use it to glory in the flesh. @ Mintayo seriously? throw more light. |
Christianity Etc › Re: The Christian Chatbox ( sticky) by yetseyi(f): 2:56pm On Oct 30, 2014 |
vickyO: Yes, I did..
Yes... and by that I mean customs and traditions of men....
Tattoos in Levticus 19:28 was in relation to the pagan practice of tattooing in connection to funeral rites.... In The book of Revelations 19:12/16 you see that on Christ's forehead and thigh something's were written which is more like a tattoo. The one written in his thigh says King of kings and Lord of lords which perfectly describes Him. So tattooing for Christians is a mode of self expression and worship... I can tattoo on my body a Bible text that I love, the name of a loved one, a word that means so much to me... The tattoos on me then describes who I am, A Creation of God and a Believer. hmmm and hmm again |

dagr8: Hey, Minty, It is important to note that in Lev19:28 the context of the passage was clearly related to false religious practices and is not that of body decoration and other cosmetic body modifications but one of marking one's self in connection with religious worship,God was specifically telling Israel to stay far from the religious practices of the surrounding people groups. But, today tattoo is a decorative means of self expression and personal decoration. There is something called lale which the Hausa's use which is similar to tattoos and is also for ornamentation aimed to beautify their looks just like applying eye pencil. Christians have the liberty to modify their appearance for beauty in many ways such as clothing choice, makeup, correcting a club foot, plastic surgery, hair cutting and colouring, weight loss, body-building, ear piercing.etc Tattoo is not for everyone, and is certainly not for a Christian who feels uncomfortable with it.I totally agree with that. But to generalize and say it is a way of defiling God's temple, you may be wrong. If you see the emboldened part of your post you will discover the "I"s and "Me" as regard definition of defiling the temple not as the Bible stated it in I Cor 6:18,19.Believe me, Is just your perception and largely what you have been taught.
Having say that, i reiterate what i posted earlier,I won't encourage it for Christians in this part of the world. hmm @ bolded hmmmm |

Education › Re: Third Class And 2.2 In Our Federal Universities. by yetseyi(f): 4:28pm On Aug 27, 2014 |
In real sense most of these universities are just brands. I am running my masters currently at UNILAG and I must say that i am dissapointed, extremely dissapointed.
After all the hype about federal schools especially UNILAG saying i am dissapointed is an understatement. I share the same sentiments with peeps in my class that graduated from other Universities. We came thinking things would be different from schools we graduated from and I can tell you that its just the same if not worse.
The only difference is the consolation that you have a UNILAG certificate and people would assume you had the best of training and all that.
Of what use is it if u attend a Federal or state University and you can not get the required training that would be assumed you have undertaken.
Nigerian educational system generally needs overhauling, infact it is in a real mess. If the centrifuge I have to use as a masters student is one in which the speed can not be regulated then we have a big problem.
Its not about Federal is better than state, state is better than private. Its about the system itself.
The educational sector needs an overhauling and please discard this notion that people from federal schools are always better than people from State or private schools its very wrong. |

Texanomaly You can still come to Nigeria if you have something important doing you ll just have to be carefull and besides we are still here in Lagos. God is truly our shield anyway
I myself have had my own share of fear but then it all boils down to watch and pray.
But if the word watch could mean staying where ever you are till everything dies down then by all means stay.
