@yettyclesia,@Diboss,please how is d course and what about the lecturers.secondly u mentioned about paying before coming, please elaborate on dat cos paying 600euros from naija is good but considering how to transfer d money is another wahala pls share ur experience on how one will survive if he didn't pay from naija.
i can´t exactly describe the course. i guess your Background and mindset says alot. if you have very good chemistry Background you are good to go, its was not easy for me, for lecturers it depends on the Kind of Student you are, if you are hardworking they will be willing to help and mind you we are representing our Country, i feel they take more students from an african contry that represent well and drop from those that does the opposite. if i say its an easy course u might find it difficult or other way round, just go through the course module. All i can say is it takes all your of your time. for the accomodation the only way to survive is to get an Hotel but how do you pay for that for a longterm? if you dont pay from Nigeria they will put you on a waiting list which might take months before you finally get an accomodation with that you are not settled for few months and exam is Close by. so try to pay before you leave home. for me i had to travel distance of 2 hours daily when i first got here, it was not easy for me. so my advice is secure accomodation first by all means

Yeah, it's envitox. Thanks soo much. But which of the residence would you recommend?
that is my department but currently in my final Semester. i will recommend eckenbergstr , its new and also Close to School, the ones you could trek down to uni is auf der Union but in auf der Union you electricity bill seperately if i am correct. just check all the Services each hostel has to offer and make your choice

Hello house, I just gained admission into the University of Duisburg-Essen for winter semester. Is anyone schooling there presently who can give me advice especially as regards accommodation? I was going through the studentenwerk website and discovered the deadline for accommodation application is in 3days time. Besides, I've not started my visa application process.
Thanks.
i guess you are either admitted to water science or envitox, i am currently studying in this University, apply to Studentenwerk using your passport page and Admission letter. they will send an email to you later to transfer 600 euros from Nigeria to reserve the room, please if you dont have anyone to stay with around northrhine westphalia kindly pay from Nigeria. i made that mistake and it was not an intresting story

Nice write up bro, that is it. where i am doing my master Thesis a phd Student earn 50% or 65% depending on the funding available, meaning about 1200 0r 1500 euros after tax. i really love your advice about going for conferences which i haven,t done since i got here cos of langauage restrictions which i am still working on
Cindino20:

Thanks Schwartz.....I think there were some misconceptions abt my post.

I never said you did get a Job without speakin German although it happens..i guess you missed the line (ceteris paribus)
...It will be unwise for me to tell pple nt to learn the lang. What I meant by German lang barrier is that after 2yrs of studying you may nt be fluent as a native speaker because you may barely ve time to attend an intensive Lang. Course except the once a week organized by the uni and with that nt much progress is usually made.you may end up at B1 or B2 which is fair enough.

My experience here is that most companies employin graduates are aware abt the difficulties intl students do ve in havin a grip of the languague and what they wanna see is a commitment to learning the lang and in some cases they do ask their workers to learn the languague after gettin the job. For example...the head of our research group is nt very fluent in German despite doing his phd in switzerland but when he was offered the position of a full time prof.the position had a clause stating that in the next 2yrs he should ve learnt the languague to an extent that allows him to deliver lectures in German without issues.....now he teaches in german missed with english...and in some courses pure english.

Bro It is doable ...I met a guy when I arrived here...he studied automation and Robtics...he took him a yr to get a job when he got the Job it was a decent postion mind with little german maybe that was why it took so long ... there is a Nigerian CS graduate that got 2 offers immediately after he graduated...baba it may be difficult but it is doable..there re challenges of course...there is no where in the world where it is easy...but Germany rewards hardwork which is something young pple need.

I ve met a couple of Nigerian students who ve said they wont get a job even before they graduate.... even when u try to encourage them they dont wanna ve any of it..why they hold such views...I dont know...mother nature wont gv u something u dont want and work for...

You also accused me of throwing figures around...I didnt..I will drop links for you...msc graduates re scaled in Tv l 13 in the german civil service (private sector pays higher) see link below ..also Check the link on how to calculate taxes there ...

https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarifvertrag_für_den_öffentlichen_Dienst_der_Länder

http://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/c/t/rechner/tv-l/west?id=tv-l-2016i

You also asked me to post how I got a graduation job...Uncle pple ve different paths......pple know me personally on this board I wont start self edification it is against my core values...but if u really wanna know u I will do it...I m a chemistry student and will submit my thesis in august...I ve an offer already to do my phd with a decent wage(Research assitant position).I m doing a phd because 80% of German chemist ve phd and I didnt travel 5k miles to be a mediocre chemist.

I m grateful to this country for havin provided for me free and quality education....something I did pay thru my nose in Uk,Us or canada...and to add to it the con3 also deemed it fit to support me in form of a stipend...

My friends in Nigeria who re doing tneir master thesis re forced to buy reagents(chemicals) for their own research but here in Germany pple get paid to do research... we re all right..its just a matter of perspective.

I will also encourage young pple who re passionate abt studying to key into this even if it means makin realistic sacrifices...in the short run it may be diffucult..d shitty obs and all that but in the long run it is worth it.

Schwartz dont take this line srxly ..I often make a joke that if Germany is as shitty as u guys make it seems...there is a 10 pm flight to lagos from frankurt. grin cheesy(spaß)

lmu and their exam, i applied to that sch once and i was asked to tell them the goethe institute close by as venue for the exam and also a copy of past questions was sent which included some courses i have never done before but the date of the exam was not stated,i was replied two days to the scheduled exam and i was told they were sorry for the short notice but that was the available date goethe institute in lagos gave them and i'm meant to pay 50 euros at goethe, quickly i changed my mind and told them i cant write that exam cos nigeria is not a small country,i am hundreds of kilometers away from lagos and 2 days cannot be enough for me

sis i like your determination, but i will like to ask if you are planning to stay with your cousin because of your children, schooling here will not be so easy having two children to cater for,its not like the community we are use to that people can help to take care of your children when you are in school or not available, you can also take them to kindergarten which you have to pay for while in sch but if you are planning to stay with your cousin ,its okay,The educational system here requires a whole lot,as their grading system is high, 90 as their utmost "A"unlike our 70. just please weigh your options well cos children are involved.
sekinatmi:
I also applied to ulm for msc finance.I have two kids(3months old and 2 yrs old).I am looking at the possibility of getting a visa for three of us.I will using sponsorship letter from my cousin.pls wat is the possibility of getting the visa.I am also applying to saarland for msc bioinformatics.

Mr danindia please enough is enough youve said your point but this is misleading stop this,I am in Germany my sch english taught courses doesn't go thru uniassist,I didn't go through that, have you ever studied in Germany?if not then you don't have a point, Germans don't do things that way they are very thorough,I have seen a lot of India's coming here to study ,please how many Germans have u seen in India?please this is to show you the level of their educational system no time for rubbish ,please kindly create an India forum if there is none yet, because your advice will be more appreciated there, you don't have a business here, cos ever since this hasn't happened, don't give people hypertension cos you don't know what people are facing back home to get out ,don't contribute to it,to even have admission from a German sch now its no joke cos of competition, please don't post any furtherl
DanIndia:
I have no plans on insulting you, bro. If you read my initial comment, you'd see the nature of my comment. It was posted with no intention of insulting anyone. All I did was share an idea that most people I'm sure are unaware of but reach their schools and find out their course has got this and that. By the way, I do not know whether Eke40Seven(not that is a bad idea) is being praised for an info he has given in the past or whether he is a German student but I can tell he doesn't currently study in Germany and yes, what I've stated earlier about accreditation is from what I've seen others experience.

And thank you for commenting, I hope I've not mislead you in any ways. If I have, I apologize for that

Brothers and sisters please help me thank the Lord for his Devine favour in my life, most of you read about my ugly incidents on the 30th of last month, when I was robbed of my passport and student visa and all my school certificates.l just arrived Germany today with my sister who is also my sponsor, my visa was isue on Friday ,and getting a new passport was a Devine connection,l spoke with about three immigration officers who told me nothing less than a hundred thousand naira for duration of four weeks, but imidiately my sister arrived she call some one in abuja who did it for 50 thousand and I got it in one week. Oh the embassy, God bless germans, the lady in charge of my file, was so kind and concern about my health after she read my email l sent to her . my school also never ceased senting me mail every now and then to know about my well being and that they are praying for me, the proffersor sent a very wonderful mail to the embassy that makes me to wonder why I deserve this favor, my amazing sister who never looked back spending her money on every move we make,l have not spend one naira since I started this journey till now,how can I ever pay back this woman who is more than a mother to me, God bless her with all the good things of life. Amen
congratulations to you Betty ,I'm so happy to read this ,that after everything that happened you didn't give up!Thanks to your sister may God continue to lift her up!welcome to Germany and what city are you in?

[quote author=esdajo]Hello house. My interview was today and it went very fine as I answered the questions asked to the best of my ability and now am keeping my fingers crossed for the good news. However they did not give me back my passport and I hope this is not a radical departure from the student visa procedure as I was under the impression that I would be given back the passport immediately after the interview. Any possible reason for that?

Above all, I want to say a very big thanks to all who have contributed on this thread as the information available here is by no means meagre
