Nigeria food is expensive to prepare in terms of ingredients and length of time but chinese food are very cheap and fast to prepare. Thats why chinese restaurant are like fast food. |
oyb: Outside of pilgrimage, what businesses do nigerians do in isreal? What is the exact benefit of this bilateral agreement?I was abt to ask same question too. Please Madam Oduah, we nigerians will like to have BASA with countries like Indian, Brazil, China(@least Hongkong or Shanghai), Malaysia etc. rather than Israel. And come to think of it, where in the bible does it says christians should go on pilgrimage? SMH to this so called Religious Mentality. |
Hey Nairaland Family, I will like to know the reason (justification or excuse) given to change the Nigeria Anthem from "Nigeria We Hail thee" to "Arise O Compatriot". Personally, I think the lyrics of the old Anthem is more interesting and realistic then the latest one, as it acknowledges the diversity in culture and it contains a great dream of a nation we always wanted. "Arise, O Compatriots" (1978–present) Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria's call obey To serve our Fatherland With love and strength and faith. The labor of our heroes past Shall never be in vain, To serve with heart and might One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity. O God of creation Direct our noble cause Guide our leaders right Help our youth the truth to know In love and honesty to grow And living just and true Great lofty heights attain To build a nation where peace And justice shall reign. "Nigeria, We Hail Thee" (1960-1978) Nigeria, we hail thee, Our own dear native land, Though tribe and tongue may differ, In brotherhood we stand, Nigerians all are proud to serve Our sovereign Motherland. Our flag shall be a symbol That truth and justice reign, In peace or battle honour'd, And this we count as gain, To hand on to our children A banner without stain. O God of all creation, Grant this our one request, Help us to build a nation Where no man is oppressed, And so with peace and plenty Nigeria may be blessed. PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHT |

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said that Nigeria deserved to have a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. President Jonathan made this comment while addressing the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Election for who occupies the seat will take place in October, this year The president, who made a strong case for Nigeria's election to the United Nations Security Council, declared that Nigeria's commendable performance in previous occasions when it held a non-permanent seat on the Security Council should convince the global community that the country deserved to be elected to the council again for the 2014-2015 session. He said: "Our support for the UN Security Council in its primary responsibility in the maintenance of international peace and security has been total and unwavering. We have, in previous membership of the Council, demonstrated both the political will and capacity to engage in key Council responsibilities. I am pleased to state that Nigeria has received the endorsement of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU). We, therefore, urge this august Assembly to endorse Nigeria's candidature for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council," President Jonathan said in his address to the General Assembly." Calling for faster action towards the democratization of the Security Council, President Jonathan told the about 192 world leaders, including Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, that Nigeria and other developing countries were concerned about the lack of progress in the reformation of the UN. He said, "That is why we call for the democratization of the Security Council. This is desirable for the enthronement of justice, equity, and fairness; and also for the promotion of a sense of inclusiveness and balance in our world," he said. Meanwhile, Jonathan and the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga, yesterday said that Nigeria would not fail despite the ongoing security challenges confronting the country. http://allafrica.com/stories/201309250268.html UNITED NATION SECURITY COUNCIL MEMBERS The Council is composed of 15 Members: five permanent members: China, France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms by the General Assembly (with end of term date): Argentina (2014) Australia (2014) Azerbaijan (2013) Guatemala (2013) Luxembourg (2014) Morocco (2013) Pakistan (2013) Republic of Korea (2014) Rwanda (2014) Togo (2013) http://www.un.org/en/sc/members/ |
baffylander: In as much as i strongly believe in destiny, i also believe that hardwork, preparedness and makng good use of opportunities tears down the shackles of poverty hence i dont agree with your submission of anyone being destined to be rich just because he was born to rich parents. A man determined to be poor will die poor even if given all the gold in qatar.Am very happy you mentioned OPPORTUNITY, and an example on that is the riches man in African. Do you think Dangote will be as success as he is today if he never get the inheritance he received from his grandfather (Dantata). It always very sad when I see African think like a white man, for ur information we are not the same, we live in different part of the world with different problems. In the Western world, raising resources for business and investment is easier than it is in Africa. Leaving inheritance for the kids should not be done on the idea that they are entitled but it can be given as a gift to them to ease their future. And for your information, Abraham gave all his wealth to his son Isaac. |
baffylander: I once told my wife this particular statement and she was livid to say the least...not sure i subscribe to working so hard for money and same been passed on to someone who's only qualification is been my son/daughter. Of course we have peeps who's parents were rich and actually did somehing for themselves but a vast majority would fritter same away before the parents are confirmed dead at the morgue. So what if by destiny you are to be the source of ur generational wealth and giving the little you are able to gather to the kids will transform their life and the generation after forever? Think deeper before regret ur decision in ur grave. |
There is more to these stories than what is published here. These Mega-billionaires claim that they will not be giving their wealth to the kids? Hhmmm, what an interesting story. So who will all those wealth be giving to? Not the government, not their neighbors and not their town. These money will all be in a trust fund where it will still be generating more money for the dead body and spirits, making name for them when they are dead. If you all dont know, they are just listening to their financial Adviser on how to beat the american complex taxation system. If they are to give their wealth to their kids, about 50-60% of that inheritance must be paid to the US government as what is called Inheritance taxes. But putting the money in NGOs and trust fund will qualify them for tax-free benefits, and they need to do is put their kids the NGOs salary list. ##If someone like Bill Gate want to be a true philanthropist, he should reduce the sales price of the Microsoft products to an affordable price where he uses his Monopoly power. zynzyn: Our system needs to challenge local stores to up their game. Afterall, shoprite is not everywhere! They will soon be everywhere, just watchout. |
gabbytabby: When I used to live close to the abatoir my meat was early morning fresh all the way. I dont have a local abatoir around me now so I do buy meat from Shoprite. Price wise I dont see the difference, I dont have to stand around haggling, I can eat shaki without having to clean shit and I dont have to wait till late afternoon/evening for what has gone round who and where God only knows.Do you know that ur so called poo on the shaki you buy from shoprite are cleaned off by chemical agents? Do you ever wonder why so called people living in the developed countries are prone to chronic diseases such as Cancer, kidney problems etc. I always tell people around me that "GOOD quality food aren't suppose to be CHEAP". |
diordaves: Is Shoprite good for Nigeria ? Or better put; Is Mega Supermarket good for the economy? The answer is probably yes but there is cause for concern going forward. What Concern if it is good? You've said it all. In the short term, Companies like Shoprite are good as it gives us a sense of development as a nation and consumers. But in the long run, they will be of bad effect in the economy. If people don't know, the main agenda of a multinational company in a new area is to cripple competitor and become an unchallengeable monster in the market. This companies has assess to unlimited credit and loans, and with the economy of scale logic they only need a small profit margin per unit (lets say 50kobo per unit) cos they probably will sell hundreds of thousand of units as compared to small scale business. And at the end of the day, the market becomes a monopoly or monopolistic market. For example, lets just imagine shoprite going into business of selling small electronics such as TV, video games, DVD players, Iron etc. can we imagine how many electronics sellers (IBOs) will be out of business within a short term. PLEASE FELLOW NIGERIANS, LETS PATRONIZE OUR SMALL BUSINESSES, cos their profit goes into the local economy but as for Mega companies their profits flies to their investor countries. |
CFCfan: Those are pics of the E-wing of the terminal. The baggage carousel was installed last week, and is being tested.Amen to that oooo |
This present Government has no right to fight corruption as far as Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is walking freely on Nigeria soil. |
Inefficiency @ its best. bulk quantity of Cement truck in by road, bagging of cement done manually and likewise loading of loading of finished product is done manually. When is this country going to change. I really feel bad for those 2 guys doing the bagging, I know they really do not have much choice but seriously those guys are at high health risk. And @ the end of the day their total salary wont to enough to pay for their medical treatment. And well, its good to see another entrepreneur biting off little crumbs from the Monstrous Dangote market. |

Economists in the House I was home and bored, so I decided to just do my thing on the internet (Research about the World Economy). Then I got a part of the public debts of countries around the world, and I learnt lot of interesting points. 1. Most of the developed economy around the world are in red, meaning they are in high debt (running on credit)- abt 70% of their economies. Most countries of the EU are indebted. US, UK, Germany, even Canada have a public debt of abt 60% of their GDP. 2. The so called BRIC economy too are now the trend of increasing their public debt. 3. To my surprise, the giant economic players in Africa are still in good economic standing. Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana and Kenya are still less than 40%. My Conclusion With my understanding of economics (although I am not an economist), the definition of GDP in the simple truth is the amount of money been spent in the economy of the country either its borrowed or earned. My Question 1. Is the measure of GDP the true value of an economy? 2. Doesn't high debt or rate of borrowing mean that an economy is becoming less productive. 3. In ur different opinion, what should be the true measure of a good economy. calculusx: [size=14pt]OP: If you must use grimaldi, you must exercise lots of patience but at the end it worth the wait. Grimaldi not only delay shipping to Nigeria, they now experience delay transferring cars from tin-can terminal with smaller vessel to their mile2 Terminal which is partly under renovation. They also have network issues, which i believe is temporary. I was there today and saw some white expertrates upgrading their server. Due to the stress and inconveniencies agents went through,an asthmatic agent died there last week before he could be rushed to hospital. You are very right. I am not a frequent auto shipper but I do once in a while for friends and family members and I can testify that Sallaum line isn't very safe. They always strip my window switches, gear knob for manual transmission, AC knobs and other packages left in the car. I talked my agent abt this problems and he advised that I should be prepared next time by removing those things myself and keep them in the AC vent underneath the dash board before shipping the car. I have not try this myself so I cannot say how successfully the idea work but I think its worth trying. |
Just six weeks? and they will become Jack Bauer in 24. Am waiting to see the miracle |
CFCfan: That's a valid point. The likes of Greece, Spain et al, have been experiencing economic austerity due to the fact that those countries don't print the Euro. Instead, it's printed by the European Central Bank. WAMI could mandate it's member countries to print the ECOWAS currency themselves, instead of depending on a single ECOWAS Central Bank. That is not possible, the eco currency is a property of the WAMI. No country will be allowed to print the eco money, its like giving ur wife ur ATM card and pin. |
I have few questions 1. Is there going to be free trade agreement across the region? 2. Are we going to have a single monetary policy across the region? 3. what is the security of the new money, is backed with gold, oil or empty air? Am open to ur opinions. |
Apart from whats happening in EU, this will not be possible due to the influence of the Big brothers (UK, US and EU). This is a treat to their superiority on the continent, and this is key reason why Ghadaffi was killed. Ghadaffi has been the only advocate for this agenda but he was killed in the named of spreading democracy. So SLS should go sleep on his thought else hes will be down soon. |
SPAIN VS TAHITI, this is like a student sitting for an examination with the same teacher who wrote the questions. The TAHITI players are playing against their super-heroes. |
KAGAWA is on SUPERCHARGER |
In my opinion, I think SLS should reduce the MPR for industrialists who need cheap loans but for him to do this there must be an agreement with the FG that 70% of its expenditure will be on infrastructure and nation building for maybe 10years. Within that period 10 years, the value of naira will depreciate and thereby causing inflation especially on imported goods. I believe that as a result of improved infrastructure, the local made goods will be relatively cheaper than the imported ones thereby discouraging the demand for imported goods and encouraging the demand for local made goods. At this time, the Nigeria manufacturing sector will experience a significant turn around due to the increase in the demand of goods. The manufacturing sector will easily grow due to the low MPR hence providing employment for the citizens. At the end of the 10 year, the nation's infrastructure should be much better, so the manufacturing sector will be fully fit to directly compete with the foreign market, and then CBN can gradually increase the MPR until the market is stabilized. As easy as this looks, there are big challenges. 1. Politics: Nigeria is not a politically stable nation, policies change in every government. 2. Corruption: Nigeria infrastructural projects are always used as a means of embezzling public funds. 3. Sub-standard project: Nigeria infrastructures are not always built to good quality standard, while those built to standard are always over used and thereby they fall apart within a short period. |
It is unfortunate for the people in the area, the shocker news is that I heard Tinubu owns abt 40% of the CCECC company. This same company has road projects in Oyo state and Ogun state which am very sure of and probably other ACN states. So they have too much eggs in one basket. Blame it on ACN god fatherlism. |
IT IS NOT CORRECT (in GEJ voice) |
