No, you can't backup or restore Whatsapp messages on an iPhone from Google Drive. iPhone only prompts you to restore from iCloud. I just tried the Whatsmate and the iPhone is not being recognized. I don't even have the option of swapping the destination and source.

If you know any other tried and proven system, please share.

Simran94:

It was recommended to someone one time like that on this thread, I have not used it before so I can't say.
What I have tried before is: backup your messages on Google Drive, then download Google Drive on your iPhone and log in to your account.
When you open whatsapp on your iPhone it would prompt you to restore messages but what this step restores are only whatsapp groups you were in.
But for other chats, I don't know know

Phones / Re: Phone Engineers On Nairaland Willing To Assist You - Part II by yimiton(f): 7:06pm On Oct 03, 2019
Thanks. Have you used Whatsmate to transfer Whatsapp messages or did you just google it?

There have been complaints about using some transfer services and you lose all your messages. Just want to be sure it's been tried and proven. Most of them are also not free, you download free and it comes with a price to use, which is not usually disclosed before you download it. Do you know how much this costs?

Simran94:

Yeah use whatsmate. Download Whatsmate on your laptop and perform anyone of the following from the attached picture

It doesn't work that way. Android uses Google Drive and iPhone uses iCloud. They can't communicate with each other. There's no way to restore Whatsapp chats from Google Drive on an iPhone.

Please if anyone knows a way that works, could you share? I'll really appreciate it.

ebab:
Just backup your messages on your whatsapp then do a restore on your iPhone.. that's all

Hello guys, please I have a friend who has submitted her PR application since December 26th, 2018. She received AOR immediately but till date, 14th January 2019 she still hasn't been sent biometrics requirements. Please is this normal or is she supposed to contact CIC?

Congratulations on the safe landing. Seem Ethiopian Airlines is now the official carrier for team Canada. May I ask why you chose to settle in Ottawa?

I heard a lot of nice things about it. Decent job availability, not as expensive as Toronto, not as cold as Calgary, it's green, lots of play grounds for kids, voted the best place to live as an immigrant in Canada.

At the end though, we'll stay wherever we get the best job offers. We're here now and like it but we're open to moving if need be.

How far with landing? Can you share the experience with us please?

Hello Guys, I've been away for so long I know. The last days before departure and settling in after departure can be a bit challenging. Below is my landing gist:

We're a family of 4. (3 yr old son and 1 yr old daughter)

Our Ethiopian airline flight was scheduled for 1.40pm. We arrived the airport at 9.30am with 8 check-in bags and 3 hand luggage with baby diaper bag.

Our items were weighed and advised to pay $220 for the extra luggage which we did. The other bags were overweight by a cumulative of 4kg and I took out a pack of beans and a bottle of palm oil.

They still ended up being overweight when they went through the final weighing machine by the Ethiopian airline guys but they were willing to overlook, which suddenly made me greatly regret taking out the beans and oil.

We proceeded to check in. The airline wasn't bad at all, I expected much worse considering the negative reviews. There were lots of kids (including mine but hey, we love kids)

As usual with airline foods, they weren't perfect but they were edible. Even our son who's usually a fussy eater ate it.

The layover was short. Addis was crappy but expected.

On the Addis to Toronto leg, I was offered a front seat with bassinet. I was glad to take it. I could sleep while my 1.5 yr old daughter slept peacefully in the bassinet. I believe she was too big for it but it was offered and I wasn't about to decline.

We were given the declaration forms which we filled declared that we have food and money exceeding $10k

We got to immigration and our visas were cancelled while the COPRs were processed. We ensured we took our own copies. Then, went to service Canada for our SIN which took a while because of the crowd.

Afterwards, we proceeded to customs. They took a cursory look at our declaration form and asked if we have meat. We said we have smoked fish but no meat. We also mentioned the palm oil as we had forgotten to include it in the list of the major items that we had hurriedly written on the declaration form. I referred her to the list for the other items. She wished us welcome and we went to claim our bags.

Everything was intact. Nothing was thrown out. List of what we carried:

1. Beans
2. Garri
3. Smoked fish
4. Blended cray fish
5. Dried pap
6. Egusi
7. Ogbono
8. Knoor chicken
9. Dried bitter leaf
10. Dried shawa fish
11. 5 bottles of Palmoil (put in small 7.5 Eva bottles, frozen and wrapped with cling papers and tape)
Everything was intact. Nothing was thrown out.

My brother-in-law picked us up and took us to our Airbnb apartment in Mississauga. It was a very lovely place with a very lovely and an accommodating young Canadian man and his girl friend as our host.

We stayed for 5 days in Mississauga, visited my sister several times in Oakville and on the 3rd of January, we got a van to take our numerous bags to Ottawa and followed by train (Viarail)

That's it guys.

At first, I sent to only NDLverification@frsc.gov.ng and there was no response. Then, I forwarded it to info@frsc.gov.ng and
helpdesk@frsc.gov.ng and I received my response in a little over a week. They even sent me a scanned copy.

Could it be that they're getting overworked?

This tread is also about how to prepare adequately to land in Canada without much challenges. I am of the opinion that issues like FRSC letters, bridging courses that can be taken in Nigeria, Flight tickets from Nigeria, experiences at the airports etc and anything else that will prepare you to land in Canada gently are very important topics.

@TribeD, thanks again for pointing me to the right direction regarding the FRSC email addresses. There are people on this tread who demand money to 'help' people to get this letter, when all that is required is a simple letter to the right email addresses.

aklas87:
I think this thread is about life as a canadian immigrant? But now it has been derailed to how to get FRSC letter,, WES evaluation and other unrelated discussions.
No Building pix, no winter situation pix and rest of things that can make prospective immigrants eager to migrate

Yes, it's IBTC and no, they didn't stamp it. The statement was also in black and white on their letter head.

Abbylee:
Hiya

Please I have some questions.

Im guessing your pension manager is Stanbic. Did they stamp your statement and letter? i have got a letter which has been signed but not stamped. They said they don't normally stamp. The statement as well was sent to me in black and white and not stamped.

Was yours like this as well?

Thank you!!!

Good evening fellow prospective Canadians.

Please, what does WES evaluate Mechanical Engineering as? Is it Professional or BSc?

Hello Teecann,

Yes, I heard too that with this letter, you won't need to wait 2 years before taking the driving test but without it, you might be made to wait.

Some people say they didn't wait, they simply presented their driver's license and were allowed to take the test. I always prefer to be over prepared than to be under prepared, so, I'm trying to get it.

TEECANN:

Good day bro.

Can you please enlighten me on what you want to achieve with FRSC?

I'm curious because a friend in Canada told me that if I can get Letter of Good Conduct from FRSC before coming over to Canny, it may help me to get some elementary parts of Canadian drivers license process waived...

Kindly respond. Thank you.

Hello guys,

Please those that have successfully received response from FRSC in Abuja by email, was there anything in particular that you did?

I have sent a mail to NDLverification@frsc.gov.ng since September 25 and till date, no acknowledgement or response from them. I sent a reminder yesterday but I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever get a response.

Yes, a technical stop but does that count?

A555:

I believe the flight to Toronto includes a short stop over in Dublin where you don't get off the plane.
Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 10:35am On Oct 30, 2017
Maybe that will depend on where your final destination is. I have only one stop, which is Addis, then, directly to Toronto.

shygunXs:

Go to Ethiopian airlines website. Their flights are mostly cheap but the downside is the number of stops. They could have about 3 stops, laying over in hours up to 18hrs. So there's a trade off; you either bear with the long wait and pay cheap, or pay more on other airlines and have few stops.

Dunno if any other person has other opinion.

This is fantastic news. We're landing in December too.

I haven’t landed yet o..
Used them on another trip. The reviews that had given me pause were mostly about their hub in Addis.
Now I’ve had the Addis experience, it’s not as bad as they led me to believe.
Definitely flying them for our soft landing in December.

Some days are cheaper than others. I noticed that the cheapest days are Thursdays.

You can either book directly on their website or the popular booking agencies. You can compare prices before you pay.

hello yimiton,

Please how did you go about getting the cheap Ethiopian flight?
Will appreciate because I intend to follow them too, thanks

Congrats on your IELTS result. you nailed it!.

enocoded4life:
I am just super excited and overwhelmed right now. All glory to God because He indeed answers prayers. Just checked my IELTS results now:

Listening: 8.0
Reading: 9.0
Writing: 7.5
Speaking: 8.0

Got just what I needed in all bands to get maximum scores. CRS now stands at 453. I pray UNIPORT sends my transcript to WES today as promised so that my evaluation can be completed. Can't wait to dive into pool. From here henceforth it's from glory to glory.

Special thanks to @yimiton, @Sunvick, @Dhimmy, @Algbenguze, @Hephgirl who encouraged me to rewrite IELTS when I shared my profile and former scores (LRSW 7.5, 9, 7, 6.5). They helped me calculate my possible CRS if I got an 8 in listening and told me I had no business with PNP. Today your advice has paid off. Thank you sirs and ma'am God bless you all.

To all hopefuls keep holding on, it's just around the corner. It will end in praise.
