Yey!!! Welcome to Canada and thanks for coming back with feedback on Ethiopian Airline.

Yes, I've bought our Ethiopian airline ticket at an unbelievably cheap price and I'm glad you had a positive experience. Hopefully, we will have a sweet experience too.

Did you pass through Toronto? (YYZ) if yes, how long did it take you to complete your immigration process?

We're a family of 4. How long would you say we should plan to spend at the airport from Landing and taking a vehicle to our destination?

teeoba:
Hi Yimiton,
Hope you are well and thriving. Have you purchased your ticket now?
Quick feedback on Ethiopian from an unrelated trip: The Addis Airport is quite busy/rowdy with lots of people in the terminal but very functional.
My flights left on time and no issues with luggage.
Having experienced it myself..+ their affordable fares: it’s a great option

Lol @Dublin, is it that bad, haba! lol

Esughusughu:
Some do block off the dates because they don't want any guests at that particular period. Just keep searching. In my own case, after canceling, they said they would be traveling and will block the dates in their calendar. But as at now those dates are still open. People have had good experiences, but I won't advise you to mention anything Nigeria. If they ask me again, I'll say Dublin, after all my flight would transit there.

Congratulations! Now the planning begins.

I am so excited this morning.

I woke up to the most coveted email on this side of the planet.

I would like to thank everyone that has contributed to my mental and psychological well being while the process lasted. I do appreciate.

I cancelled within 48 hours of booking and my trip is still very from now, so I wasn't charged a service fee.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Lalaska:
Note that you will be charged service fees

You're so kind.

Perhaps, you might want to look at kijiji.ca ... You should be able to find something temporary. CC: Esughusughu

For anyone coming to Ottawa. If there is a place you saw and need help viewing it before accepting. I would be willing to help you view it. All I ask is you let me know on time so that i can schedule my time accordingly.

Peace...
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 6:30pm On Oct 25, 2017
I eventually got a place. Booked for 10 nights. It seemed perfect until I paid and noticed there's no kitchen! Now, I'm thinking I have to cancel but the other options are so expensive.

flyhigh1881:
I don't know if they are intentionally blocking the dates but not sure about that (I may be wrong). We booked Airbnb too and it was tough getting a place based on our budget and dates so we had to adjust dates. We had planned on booking for 2 weeks but couldn't get a place we liked because they were either fully booked or some days in between were booked so we ended up booking one week and the place was very good.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 1:37pm On Oct 25, 2017
I seem to be having challenges with Airbnb too.

I plan to book 2 weeks (14 days) and I used the filter to narrow the search to suit our budget, but it would appear that my choices are gone even before the hosts respond to me. Is it possible that they're intentionally blocking off my preferred dates? shocked

Their policy say they're race, colour and bla bla bla blind.

Have you also noticed that most of the reviews are left by other races? No black reviewers in there.

Esughusughu:
So my supposed airbnb hosts canceled my reservation grin
We got chatting and I answered their questions. Though, I could sense this dislike for black people from the undertone of their inquiries. But hey! a stranger is coming to stay in your apartment, hosts need to be rest assured that they too are safe.
Then the question of my nationality, avoiding to answer that would seem dodgy, there was no point stating another place, since they could request for my ID. Conversation ended with me mentioning Nigeria. Lol....I already knew what that meant before they replied me 36hours later that they'll be traveling and I should keep exploring, which I'm doing right now. Please those who used this platform and had good experience should pls share theirs

Thanks a lot. This is very useful information.

Blackbuddy:
Yes indeed, I used kijiji, 4rent.ca and a host of other online sources. I would find the vacancies that met my spec, call the landlord/building manager and tell them straight on the phone that I'm a landed PR, skilled professional with my family and looking for accommodation. I told them as it was upfront so that those who don't like my 'profile' can just tell me not to bother to come. For those who did not mind, I made appointment to go see them, discuss the vacancy and inspect the place. That was how I met my building manager, she saw I and my wife, heard about our professional backgrounds and she said you are the sort of people I need in my building. This was after numerous earlier disappointments at other places but you have to approach this like applying for a job or going for interview. Some won't work out but one surely will so don't take it personal but keep moving. I agree wholeheartedly, you can make it!
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 4:20pm On Oct 23, 2017
Ha! God bless you! I really love this comment. If you made it, I can.

Did you use Kijiji? If not, who did you use?

Blackbuddy:
Any one who asks you for those and you do not have them, simply move on to the next vacancy/next opportunity. That's what I did till got a building where they waived those requirements.

Please, is there anyone on this forum who lives in Waterloo?

I need heads-up on accommodation, job, everyday life etc.

I was initially considering London but from research, I have noticed that the labour market is not very good, so, we're not looking at Waterloo.

You can get PTA from Access bank with your one way ticket and your PR visa.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 8:17pm On Oct 22, 2017
Dear Fam, good evening.

Is it true that we can't get PTA with one way booking?

Zenith Bank just told us that we need a return ticket to get PTA, is it the same with the other banks?

Good morning Virtual Fam,

I am in the process of booking our flight and just noticed that flights leaving Nigeria to Toronto on Thursdays are cheaper than other days of the week. Is there a reason to be concerned? We're looking at leaving on Thursday, the 28th of December and landing on Friday, the 29th (Friday).

Is there a reason to be concerned?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 2:24pm On Oct 12, 2017
1. Passport - Compulsory

2. Yes please, fill the height, weight etc form. Very important.

3. Has your family composition changed? that is: a new baby, a spouse etc? If not, read the PPR, you'll see that you're meant to fill the IMM008 only if your family composition has changed. If not, you do not need to fill it.

4. I didn't see any Additional Family Information and didn't fill anything. The only form I filled is the one that was attached, that is your number 2 below (height, weight, eye colour).

eddycross:
Thanks. From your response, you only need to complete the IMM008 form.

To clarify, my PPR request seemed to request for three documents:
1. Passports
2. Height, Weight, Eye colour form (this was attached to the PPR)
2. Form IMM008
3. Additional Family Information <-- this is the one I want to confirm if anybody filled it.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 12:59pm On Oct 12, 2017
I don't understand your question but when I got my PPR mail, I didn't send an IMM008 form being that my family composition had not changed. However, I filled the form that was attached to the email and sent it with my passports.

If your family composition hasn't changed, there's no reason why you should fill the IMM008 again.

eddycross:
@All with COPR,

The PPR mail requests for completed form IMM008 and Additional Family Information forms.

I already completed and sent the form IMM008.

Do we need to also send the Additional Family Information forms?

I need to confirm before I initiate a CSE. Thanks
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 5:25pm On Oct 11, 2017
My sentiments as well. Waiting so long makes speedy PPR look like a waste. The good thing though is that it saved us the headache of waiting for ages to get a response.

The good thing for you is that April won't be as cold as the winder months will be and eventually, we'll be there. Enjoy the hot weather while it lasts.

XX01:
I am leaving Easter. Seems so far away given the speed with which I got PPR but there are some things I can't hasten.

Heard that Ethiopian is building a new terminal that will be of international standard. Don't know when it will be ready.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 11:15am On Oct 11, 2017
Really!? All the reviews I read here were pretty positive, although, I didn't check TripAdvisor. Could it be that they've improved their services or people just have much higher expectations than Nigerians? Were they specific about the result of the disorganisation? Maybe lost luggage etc?

I'll be with my 2 little tots too (first will be 3 years and 11 months while the other will be 1 year and 6 months). Good thing is my husband will be there to ensure things are in order and we'll be landing for good.

I'll find out more about them before we finalise. I don't want my precious luggage lost in any confusion.

teeoba:
Left behind ke? We are only doing short landing in December.. Still unsure when we'll be leaving for good.

Ethiopian rates look good but read some Trip adviser reviews about their very disorganized Addis airport Where there's a moderate layover. (No energy for wahala with two kids in tow)

Hoping to snag a good deal on Turkish or even BA....( fingers crossed)

Destination: Ontario province for now.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 10:48am On Oct 11, 2017
Ontario is my destination. The fear of that cold! at some point we'll have to face it right. December is pretty cold too.

Hope you've started making arrangements for your winter jackets? I remember seeing a suggestion here that we should check Yaba for something warm and buy when we land Canada

Gereal:
Hi. Am leaving in January too. Was worried that I would be the only one braving the cold. What province are you heading to. I am heading to alberta.
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f):
Kai! Now, I'm feeling left behind. I'm leaving in January, it seems so far now that I've got my approval! lol.

What province are you going?

Ethiopian Air has some very good rates and there's been some positive reviews about them. I'll most likely try them, you should do the same.

Yes, I got the email address of the lady that attended to me when I went to send the passports and forwarded the mail to her. She had earlier told to me do an authorization letter, so, I typed a letter, signed, scanned and attached it to the pick up email and sent both to the dhl lady.

Planning to leave in January. Got some loose knots to tighten before we pack up and leave.

teewhy31:
Congratulations to you too! Will do pick up tomorrow ,got the mail late. So I have to forward the email to DHL? Didn't know that...thanks.
leaving next month. You?
TravelRe: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 5:29pm On Oct 10, 2017
Interesting. Have you made arrangements for pick-up? Seems they batched us together and responded to us at the same time. I saw a lady at the DHL office today when I went to make arrangement for my pick-up. It seemed like that was what she was there for too.

The agents were telling her she needed to send the mail to them and give them an authorisation letter. Fortunately, I was told when I went to send my passports, so I had everything handy.

When are you looking to leave?

Congrats!

teewhy31:
Yes o! Just got mail. Status changed today too.
