Thanks for sharing this update. Mine was sent on the 19th and delivered on the 22nd of September. This has sort of put my mind at rest.

Let the count down begin. But seriously though, what if one wanted to travel and needed the passports?

teeoba:
@ Yimiton and teewhy1
Passport delivered to Accra on September 19th. Sent the an email (to Ottawa, London VO and Accra) on Tuesday to ask for update and expedited processing. Got a response from London Visaoffice:

Please allow a minimum of 4 weeks for the return of your passport.

That is fantastic. Hopefully, you'll get something from these visits. We are waiting for the update.

On another gist, while still awaiting for my PUM and still very much in Nigeria, I have received a few decent job alerts from jobbank and was thinking of applying. I am thinking of re-doing my CV in the advised Canadian style, use my sister's home address and use my Skype ID as contact ID.

Do you guys think it's worth giving it a try?

My host/Landlady is taking me to the offices of Kelly services, International financial group, access employment and randstad(all job recruitment agencies) today .
we want to see if they will give me audience or send me to their websites.

I never start and i don dey tired of sending resumes without response. Lets see if i can take it by force. ofcourse i will update the house.

I thought I was the only one checking incessantly. I plan to send a mail to Accra as soon as it's approved!
teewhy31:
It hasn't been approved yet.... checking every hour.... still hopeful.
You are not alone o!

Thanks for the reassurance. It's not like we have any other choice but to wait.

SlowlybtSurely:
Yimiton and teewhy31, please don't fret. You will receive your passports. I do understand it can be annoying. I got my application approved exactly 6 (six) weeks from the day AVO received it. After that, i still didnt get pick up email until i sent them a reminder. So trust me, I know what it is to wait.

Focus on relocation, cos it will surely come. wink

Exhales...does it mean you haven't received yours too? I was beginning to think I was in this boat alone.

Has your profile been approved?

teewhy31:
Sighs.....oh well! I asked because we submitted about the same time. Guess I was hoping for the speed of PPR. It is well. I wonder why it takes them so long.

Hi Yimiton, any update?

Nothing yet, my profile still hasn't been approved talkless of pick up mail.

Right now, I've decided to just chill and try not to check too often.

Thanks a lot. When I hear 'menial jobs' what readily jumps into my mind are gate keepers and corpse cleaners. I don't mean to demean any job, I mean, that's what readily comes to my mind.

vcole:

No be only madam. Hello Oga, Madam or Oga-madam.
No I do not. It's illegal to possess any other drivers license alongside the Alberta DL. So you submit all drivers licenses in your possession to the registry.

I think menial jobs are minimum wage paying jobs. $13.60/hr now in Alberta. Those are like Wal-Mart cashier jobs, kfc/mcdonalds etc etc front desk kinda jobs. I may be wrong but I assume these are what menial jobs here are. I met a lady recently who works part time as a customer service representative at superstore and said she gets full dental coverage and added health benefits from that job because its unionized. It was interesting to me to hear that a "menial job" had a benefits package.
Most jobs here are applied for online or by dropping your resume off at the office of the proposed employer or by word of mouth.

@Vcole, thanks for this very informative post.

Please when people talk about these 'menial' jobs, I always wonder what they really mean. For clarity, please give examples of the available blue collar jobs and how one can get them.

vcole:

Na wa. This assumption that everyone is a "bro can come off as quite distasteful. Being male is not the default human gender oh. I'm female.

As regards jobs, my experience thus far is that there are jobs; even in Alberta which is still officially in recession, you only need to be willing to do them.

Nobody looks down on you if you are doing a "blue collar" job. Also I've realised that even people who work at so called menial jobs here earn enough to live okay. I mean minimum wage paying jobs which is about the worst you can earn, right?

Thanks to everyone that has responded.

My conclusion is that it takes roughly 3weeks and there's an option to contact them if need be.

Thanks again for your responses.

Thanks. Please what email address did you use?

laborel:
@yimiton,

I will advice you send them a mail to them while you attach the screenshot of your CIC approval page.

Our CIC page was approved in five days but they refused to send PUM until we send a mail to Accra visa office. Lo and behold, it was sent the next day.

Thank God, both passports and CoPR are here with us now.

With your age and only a BSc, you'll need all the extra points you can get to help you get enough points that can get you an ITA.

1. Do you per chance have a diploma? I know some people get diplomas before direct entry into the university

2. Do you or your spouse have a sibling legally living in Canada?

3. Your spouse definitely needs to write IELTS, that 20 points is critical to you.

If your answer to questions number 1 and 2 are no, you need to ensure you get the English scores in number 4

4. You have to smash your IELTS, aim for L8.5 S7.5 W8 R8

When you've done all the above, you'll pray CRS comes down at some point. If it doesn't, you'll have to go through Provincial nomination.

Soon that will become a thing in Nigeria embarassed. Plp will get American visas just so they can end up in Canada as illegal immigrants. God help us all cry.

It's so sad, the extent people will go to have it all together. I know someone here in Nigeria, telling me his is going to the US with his family in order to take this route to Canada. Nawa o.

Thanks for your response.

I need more responses please.

I've been very busy. I've practised the Ontario G1 Practice Test so many times, I can recite them in my sleep. Also been doing a lot of other stuff like familiarising myself with requirements upon landing, how to search for home, school etc.

I say in my mind, I am already in Ontario. I can even visualise our first home sef.

Thanks again.

Abby2017:
I understand you. It just feels like one is stucked on a spot but you can get busy with some prearrival arrangement while you wait (One would think I got busy, lol).

My COPR timeline.

Passport sent- 5th September
Passport received in Accra- 7th September
MyCIC account status approved- 19th September
Pick-Up Mail- 26th September

My Dear people, please don't blame me for being impatient oh, in my mind, I am already in Canada and I plan to leave in December or latest January.

But you know, final arrangement like sale of property and booking of flight cannot be confidently done unless we see our COPR and stamped passports.

So, to help me plan properly, I will appreciate if you will drop how long it took from the day Accra received your passports to the day they you got the mail, informing you that they're ready.

We tracked and saw that ours were delivered to Accra on the 22nd of September, 2017.

Please how long did yours take?

Abby2017:
Lmao...I tell you! Those Accra peeps are not serious at all.

6 months! I'd have been so worried, thinking that the worst has happened. I salute your patience. Those 23 days seemed like the longest in my life.

But wait oh, Accra wants to take more days to stamp a passport than it took CIC to verify application and issue PPR. Wonders shall never end.

fabdee:
23days to get PPR? Now i feel you. If you had waited for 6months like me, by now PATIENCE go be your middle name grin . Dont worry your PUM is a click away. Cheers!
Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by yimiton(f): 10:23am On Sep 26, 2017
You have a point sha. It took us only 23 days to get our PPR so maybe they'll want us to learn small patience, but God forbid it!, Baba God knows I've always been a very impatient person.

It's not 'one size fits all' afterall

fabdee:
Yimiton....wat ya want me to confirm again ooo....lmao. I dont think there's a fast rule to it....each application to its own. Besides, it took 6months to get our PPR....it would be wickidt of Accra to delay us any further...hahahaha grin grin grin

Can you and other gurus confirm please.

fabdee:
Sorry I'm just seeing this. I've not been here in a while. Busy packing up my boxes grin grin. Passport got to Accra on 28th, got pick up mail on the 31st.

Congrats. Please can you confirm the meaning of the following.

CSE - Case Specific Enquiry - This is a form available on the CIC website and used to add information after submission when necessary
IP1 - In Progress - The default update when you just submit your application
IP2 - In Progress - Happens when you've passed your medicals and background check is either concluded or almost concluded
NA2 - Not applicable. This appears a second time on your update, and this is where they take out very thorough background checks.

If you read through this forum, you'll see detailed explanation of these terms and what they mean.

Thanks, I am new in this journey.

Thanks. I don't have an agent. I simply walked to a First Bank and asked to buy T.Bills. They sold for me at 18%. So, I'll return to the same First Bank with the T.Bills cert and tell them what I want. Hopefully, that will do.

1Bishop:

You can sell it in the secondary market, you'll only lose a fraction of the coupon (what you called the upfront interest) you got. Approach your agent, you'll surely not lose all.
Investment / Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by yimiton(f): 12:04pm On Sep 22, 2017
Secondary market. I got it from First bank and the terms says:

"In the event that you have to liquidate this investment prior to the maturity date indicated above, a panel charge will be applied based on the prevalent re discount rate. I don't even understand what that means.

Please I need a response to my question.

I'll like to liquidate a 6 months Tbills in 3 months. How possible is that? what do I stand to loose? Can I just give them back the upfront interest and take my capital?

I tracked and noticed that the mail left Lagos, went first to London, came back to Lagos, performed the same activities that were performed on it before it went to London, then, finally went to Accra.

I wonder why it first went to London.

impish:
Honestly, the thing tire me.

Courier from Cote D'Ivoire to Accra was even more expensive. About double. I was very confused. Perhaps there is an added service that they offer for passports that we are unaware of. Anyway sha, they know that this close to the end, we would pay N1m to get that visa stamp, so they can contunuu.

Good day House,

Please I need your advice.
I'm filling the Wes application form online . Should I choose the standard delivery method which is 7 dollars or 85 dollars?

Does it make any difference apart from the ability to track ?

Can I apply without receiving the evaluation hard copy from Wes?

Thank you

There's no format for explaining POF. Just use your own words and be as transparent and detailed as possible.

At the end of my explanation, I did a table like the one below:

The table below summarizes my Proof of funds

S/N Source of Funds Amount
1 USD Domiciliary Account.
Random savings. .... USD – $.... CAD
2 Nigerian Treasury Bills – Withdrawn savings from Cooperative society. N......000,000 - $..... CAD
3 Pension – Continuous contributions from over ...... years of work. Total N.,...... N.....1 - $........CAD
(25% of total amount)

Total
........ CAD

I tire for DHL. Courier to Canada from Unilag is N16k but passport to Ghana is N20,800 embarassed undecided.

grammy010:

WES is faster for UNILAG but only if you can get someone fast track it for you. I can link you up with someone but it would be at additional cost. Transcript request cost N2,500 and courier to Canada cost N16000. Though they can use NIPOST for N400 but delivery is at your own peril.
