Ogu or Ewe have their well documented history.

They migrated to Bsdagary their current location for security reasons. They wanted to be protected by the Oyo empire's outpost of Ajase (Port novo).

Their history is intereoven with ours and ours with them.
Lol. Ewe that's in far away Togo and Ghana wanting protection from Oyo? Chai... why do you guys lie like this? Is Eweland contiguous with Yorubaland? What year did they seek this protection and from who were they running away? Show me from any book where it was written that Ewes sought protection from Oyos.
As for the Ogus, they're a tiny minority group and were sandwiched between the Fon on the West and Yorubas on the East yet retained their language. The influence Yorubas had on them is very great but their history with the Yorubas is no way interwoven. Bear this in mind that the Ewes are not Ogus or vice versa. Ewes are found in only two countries viz Ghana(SE) and Togo(SW). You can check the map of West Africa. You language is not even similar in any way hence they're not even Yoruboid.

How about you constructively criticize my statement and not throw absurd insults!
When next you want to barge into Igbo threads endeavour to observe decorum. I responded to you uncouthly because you ran into the thread with threats and unsubstantiated allegations about complexes and uniqueness.
Initially, I wanted to dissect all the thrash you wrote but on a second thought, I chose that one you earlier saw. Now, identify yourself by your ethnic group and state your grouse with the topic of this thread. Thereafter, I'll calmly respond to your concerns.

I think it's about time they excise the Igbo speaking part of Delta state. I've had it with the constant propaganda about Igbos on nairaland, it's getting really annoying tbh.

I also want to make something very clear to every igbo person reading this- YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL, YOU ARE NOT RACIALLY SUPERIOR, you are an average human being you need to realize this and move Forward because if you continue like this it's not going to be palatable.

Note: I'm not a nepotist or tribalist I simply tell what i see and how i see what I see. Most of my friends are Igbo just so you know.
Did I hear you say it's not going to be palatable? What can you do about it? Ignoramus like you throwing saliva all over the place can't do shit. Introduce yourself first then we can take look into your case.

This over-flogged issue again.

The funny thing is that you don't see the other side opening series of thread here to claim that they originated from the east.

Why don't you let them choose who they want to be?

Why forcefully trying to coerce them into union with you.

I have Igbo acquaintances who claim they and those from Ebonyi aren't true Igbos.

Let them be. If they feel the pull to reunite with the Igbos, nobody can stop them.

But to keep opening threads upon threads just to prove that you are related smacks of desperation.

If Nigeria is going to split peacefully, everyone's going to vote where they be going.

So, no need for all this.
Firstly, how is this thread your concern? Are you from Anioma? Secondly, who solicited your advice? It's not needed here. You're quick to agree with the ignorant Igbo guy that naively called Ebonyians non Igbo but now you almost choked struggling with another Igbo who claims ndi Anioma are Igbos. Don't you see how despicable you are? I can read between the lines. Just read and move on except you have a proof that contravenes what he wrote. So, next time don't pokenose on threads you know nothing about.

lol, you studied the movement of Yorubas? Yoruba itself is not the real language, the Source of all the dialects might be from Benin republic, Togo or even from the Sahara. It has nothing to do with a Benin prince, the Benis influenced the culture of the areas they dominated to an extent but not the language.
Lol. Is Ife no longer the cradle of civilization? Anthropology helps to pinpoint areas that had had the earliest of settlements from the various archeological landmarks found therein. Among all the areas Yoruba people settled, it's Osun and Kwara that has the oldest of Yoruba cultural artifacts which confirms it as the area with the oldest settlements. Yorubas in Togo and Benin were sojourners just like the parties that went down to form the Itsekiris today.
Truly languages morph overtime but there are relics that connect them hence some are classified as dialects while others are seen as sharing similar origin but not dialects. Itsekiri is not a dialect of Yoruba but Ijebu is.

Thanks for the illumination.
So are the Egun people consider a different tribe in Lagos State?
It is common to see a dialect of a tribe (ethnic nation)that is kind of different from the other dialects.Maybe due to migration in time past. But in this contemporary age, they now belong to one tribe.
Yes, the Ogu people are considered a different language in Lagos state and some local stations broadcast news in the language. The Ogus are also found in Ogun state. There's even a thread here on nairaland to that effect. Their origin is from Ghana. The only linguistic connection they have with Yorubas is the shared 'Gbe' cluster of West African languages. They're not a dialect nor are they Yoruboid.

Okpe kingdom is part of the Urhobo ethnic nation.Okpe is the largest kingdom in Urhobo.
Just as we have different dialects/kingdoms in other Nigerian ethnic nations. The Badagry man is a Yoruba man, despite most Yorubas don't understand that dialect.
How about the Epie dialect (Yenagoa city aborigines )in the Ijaw nation.Their dialect sounds like Isoko and Ijaw mixed together, or the Ogbia dialect in Ijaw too.But they are all Ijaws.
Badagry belongs to the Ogu people. They Yorubas call them Egun. They are not Yorubas neither are they Yoruboid but a good number of them understand and speak the Yoruba language alongside their own. The king of Badagry bears the title 'Akran'. This is a non Yoruba word. His name is De Aholu Menu Toyi I. The Yorubas will always write his title as Oba Akran of Badagry to confuse unsuspecting people but the Ogus will write it as The Akran of Badagry. Just check Google right away to confirm what I wrote here. The age of lies is gone forever.

The Itsekiri language is very old, older than the Benin Kingdom, some experts believe it is the purest form of the Yoruboid language, it is contiguous via the coastal line.
Lol. Typical lies from Yorubas. Itsekiri land is not contiguous with Yorubaland. Secondly, Yorubas were originally west central settlers of Nigeria as your history can be well explained. Where was old Oyo? I studied deeply on the movement of the Yorubas and noticed that you acculturated many coastline tribes. Anyone who listens to the dialects along the coast of Yorubaland will notice this. The Ijaws stretched all the way from Lagos to Rivers coastline and only the Yorubas punched that line. Tiny remnants of Ijaws can be seen between those puncture. Footprints of Ijaws are in Lagos. We all know of the Ondo Ijaws and even they are losing out their language fast especially among the Arogbos. The Ilajes and Aworis originally were not Yorubas but they've lost their language entirely. As for the Itsekiris, it's a similar story of the larger Yoruba contingent swallowing the original tribe they found. Prince Ginuwa was from Benin and he ruled over them. Notice the unique non Yoruba names among found among them and tell me where it originated from. Original Yoruba language is from Ife never at tip of the Atlantic ocean.

Nnamdi Azikiwe is most recognised Onitsha man in history. He is an authority. So why go ask for another version when Zik of Africa already told us the history.
You're a poor historian and very bad debating. If Onitsha was formed by the Benin Prince, won't the Bini royal courts have a record for confirmation of that Prince? Mind you Azikiwe never claimed Ezechima was a Prince but you claimed he was a prince.
Benin city was the capital of an empire which had different tribes including Igbos residing there as at that time. If you ignore the fact that all the names he listed were all Igbos, I'll write you off too.

Mr Eugene, no need to try and lecture me on your history. I'm not interested. Let the people you are trying to co-opt speak for themselves.

For example, Itshekiri people are decidedly Yoruboid. Yet they have formed a separate identity for themselves.

If they want to join Yorubas when this contraption called Nigeria fails is up to them and they will be welcomed with a warm embrace. If they choose to stay away, it's up to them. The link will always be there.

But not you. Everything na agidi, stronghead.
Don't meddle in what you don't know. China claimed Hong Kong and are after Taiwan. I don't see you saying anything despite the fact that these places are Islands. Do you know why? That you refused to go search for your lost brother doesn't mean I should do so.
As for Itsekiri people, their history is very clear despite they being Yoruboid. Let me tell you the difference. Prince Ginuwa left Bini to the land and formed Kingdom in parts of Warri. Some Yorubas came from parts of Ondo to settle in the kingdom and overtime influenced the language so much that it became Yoruboid. It was Awolowo who made the initial Olu of Itsekiri to be Olu of Warri when they were in the Western region as against the wishes of both the Ijaws and Urhobos who together share the city hence the fightings that rocked Warri few decades ago. The Itsekiris land is not contiguous with Yorubaland I wonder how they'll claim to be Yorubas.
You see I know their history but if you discuss it here on nairaland without involving Igbos, I'll never interfere because it's non of my business.
Once again, keep off Igbo matters you know nothing about.

No one see you as minority unless you erroneously see yourself as being one. Some naive Urhobo guys might tell you that you're not a core deltan but that's just ignorance speaking out because of the bad press against Igbos overtime. Tell me, what qualifies one to be a core deltan? Is it location? Ukwuani land is right in the delta too. Is it language? That will be a foolish question. Intelligent Urhobo guys will never say so and that's why they collectively voted Senator Ifeanyi Okowa. Don't ever feel like a minority... Five of these rulers of Onitsha were direct lineal descendants of Eze Chima, who led his warrior adventurers when they left Benin to establish the Onitsha city state in about 1748 AD.
" SOURCE - Nnamdi Azikiwe: My Odyssey, Chapter I (Spectrum Books, 1970) "My Genealogy and Nativity" p5
Brilliant! Now this is Nnamdi Azikiwe's version and all the names mentioned are Igbo. They left Benin as either Aboriginal bini or as settlers(whether Igbo or another non-bini people) who went on adventure to Igboland passing through other notable Igbo territory to form Onitsha by the bank of River Niger. Meanwhile, we have other settlements in far flung Igbo territories like Ebonyi and Imo states.
Now I ask you again; where's the Benin palace version of a prince named?? who left Bini in the mid 18th century to form Onitsha Ado?
Hahahaha... I'm waiting for your answer.
Politics › Re: Anioma And Igbo Trends On Twitter by Yujin(m): 8:23am On Apr 27, 2020
johnpablo541:
Onitsha Mmili was known as Ado N'Idu by migrants who departed from the vicinity of the Kingdom of Benin near the far western portion of Igboland (near what is now Agbor), after a violent dispute with the Oba of Benin that can be tentatively dated to the early 16th-century. These migrants traveled eastward through what is now Western Igboland and various towns also called "Onitsha", for example Onicha-Ugbo, "farmland-Onitsha". Folklore has it that, Onitsha was founded by one of the sons of Chima, the founder of Issele-Uku Kingdom in western Igboland. Chima, a prince who emigrated, settled and founded what is now known as Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area. The eldest son of Chima eventually emigrated across the Niger River to establish the Onitsha community.
Lol. Just a simple question. Who's the Benin version of Ezechima in Benin history?

Why do you feel bad that I just spoke the truth?

On a good day, there's nothing to be ashamed of for strategizing and planning to make your future republic viable,

But y'all have convinced yourselves that you have everything and don't need anyone. That you are self-sufficient.

You see yourself as automatically superior to the other ethnicities in the Niger Delta.

That's the reason for the wheeling and dealing, trying to co-opt people who don't want anything to do with you.

Swallow the truth. It might be bitter, but it cures.
It's not my fault that you're poor in Igbo history. Igbos from Delta state have been so from time immemorial until your evil government started to balkanize our land for their selfish reasons. We will reunite with our people in other SS states too to your disappointment. It's just natural to do. You see a move to gain oil and access to sea, we see reunion from the wicked works of our enemies. Our enemies can't define our boundaries... We will.
