Politics‘I Am Not Corrupt,’ Atiku Tells EFCC by zakim(op): 6:37pm On Nov 14, 2016
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied being a corrupt person, a label that was created in the wake of a political tussle between him and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Atiku made this known in an interview with some officials from the media team of the EFCC, published in the latest edition of the anti-graft agency’s Zero Tolerance Magazine.

Responding to a question on how allegations of corruption became his albatross in the race for the presidency in 2006, he said: “well if Atiku is corrupt, he would have been found guilty of corruption by all the panels and probes and cases brought before courts.”

He said: “I remember the only corruption indictment against me was a white paper which was cooked up by our own administration over night to including the very EFCC that I helped found and other cabinet ministers, which I challenged in court.”

He said: “the court rightly dismissed all those indictments as being mere political; and till today nobody has ever indicted me of corruption.”

Also responding to allegations of corruption leveled against him by the Governor of Kaduna State, el-Rufai’s in his book Accidental Public Servant, Atiku said el-Rufai did not give any evidence or prove where I was corrupt.

He added that: “this is the same el-Rufai and others who incorporated Transcorp during my time as Vice President and offered me shares and I declined.”

“I wrote to them officially to say it was unethical of me to have accepted those offers, so, where is the corruption toga coming from.” He said.

Asked to explain the bribe scandal of N50 million, involving Senator Ibrahim Mantu, Jonathan Zwingina and others during el-Rufai ministerial confirmation screening, Atiku said: “No, that is absolutely not true.”

Atiku noted that el-Rufai ran to him and complained that he was denied confirmation by the Senate, adding that he called Mantu and others and confronted them.

He said: “It is also on record, because I controlled campaign funds, every Senator benefited from those funds; and el-Rufai now went and said those campaign funds were meant to be bribe.”

He said: “of course my boss, the president, investigated the story and found out that indeed every Senator got contributions from the campaign fund which I was managing. So where is the corruption in that?”

EducationASUU Set To Embark On Strike Over 2013 Mou by zakim(op): 6:22pm On Nov 14, 2016
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), said it would embark on a one week warning strike over failure by the Federal Government to implement the 2009 Agreement and 2013 MoU.

ASUU National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, spoke on Monday at the University of Abuja during a press conference organised by the union.

Ogunyemi said following a nation-wide consultation with members, the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU resolved to embark on a one week warning strike from Wednesday Nov.16.

“Many aspects of the 2013 MoU and the 2009 Agreement with the Federal Government have either been unimplemented or despairingly handled.

“The agreements are: Payments of staff entitlements since December 2015, funding of universities for revitalisation, pension, TSA and university autonomy and renegotiation of 2009 Agreement.

“Failure by the Federal Government to implement this agreement has put ASUU leadership in severe difficulty, responding to inquiries from members of the union about the state of our agreement,’’ he said.

The ASUU president said that during the warning strike, there shall be no teaching, examination and no attendance at statutory meetings in all branches.

He, however, called on all education-loving Nigerians to prevail on the Federal Government to address the patriotic demands of ASUU until the Nigerian university system is repositioned.

“With the release of the 2016 Annual Budget, our union wondered aloud why allocation to education dropped from 11 per cent in 2015 to eight per cent in 2016.

“With the introduction of TSA, the federal universities find it extremely difficult to discharge their core responsibilities of teaching, research and community services.

“We tried to correct the erroneous impression in government circles that the capital and research grants to universities were being handled by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund),’’ he said.

Christianity EtcFor Christian Singles - 14 Prayers To Find A Godly Spouse by zakim(op): 6:03am On Nov 13, 2016
Finding your God given spouse has nothing to do with your looks, age or income. It's good to have those things if you can but in the spiritual world they are of little or no significance.
It is deep spiritual insight like we're going to share here that counts.
In the book of Genesis 24:3-4 when it was time for Isaac to get married, Abraham sent his servant to his country with strict instruction to get a wife for his son.
He knew that God hated "unequal yoke" of marriage with unbelievers. Till today that is still the stand of God.
A misstep in this area can spell doom and gloom for an individual up to many generations, while the right choice can open the door to favor, bliss and something really close to heaven on earth... this side of eternity!
These prayer points are designed for those who love God and want His will in marriage.
Confessions:
Matt 7:7
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Isa 54:17
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
Isa 49:25
But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.
1. Thank God because He alone is the perfect matchmaker
2. Lord, release the man/woman you have preordained as my spouse in Jesus' name.
3. Lord, cause it to happen that the divine match will come forth soon in the name of Jesus.
4. Lord, let my spouse be a person who loves You wholeheartedly in the name of Jesus.
5. Lord, establish our home according to the scriptures in Jesus name (read Ephesians 5:20-28).
6. Father, let all satanic barriers keeping us from meeting be dissolved in Jesus' name.
7. Lord, send forth your warring angels to battle and release my spouse wherever she/he is in the name of Jesus.
8. Lord, I believe You have created me for a special person; bring it to pass in the name of Jesus.
9. I now call him/her out of obscurity into my life in Jesus' name.
10. I reject the provision of counterfeit spouse by the enemy in the name of Jesus.
11. I cut off the flow of any inherited marital problems into my life in the mighty name of Jesus (pray this one 7 times... aggressively)
12. O Lord, let the spirit of patience reign in my life until the right person comes in the name of Jesus.
13. (Please pray this one with all your strength for at least 5 minutes)
Father, in the name of Jesus, just as Abraham sent his servant to find his son Isaac a wife, send the Holy Spirit to bring my future partner to me.
14. Thank the Lord for the answer.

PoliticsNigeria Government Denies Paying Ransom To Free Chibok Girls by zakim(op): 10:50pm On Nov 12, 2016
The presidency has denied that the government paid ransom to free the 21 Chibok girls released by Boko Haram last month.

In a statement on Saturday evening, Mr. Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said the government has “no such money under any allocation to pay out this outrageous sum of money as ransom.”

The presidency’s reaction comes a few hours after the Nigerian military issued a similar rebuttal to media reports that $21 million ransom was paid.

The 21 girls were among the over 200 kidnapped by the Boko Haram in April 2014. The others are still being held by the terrorists whose insurgency has caused the death of over 20,000 people and displacement of millions of others since 2009.

Mr. Shehu also used to statement to highlight the administration’s successes against Boko Haram.

“As at the time he came into power, Boko Haram occupied 80 per cent of Borno State, 40 per cent of Yobe, and a significant segment of Adamawa,” he said.

Read Mr. Shehu’s full statement below:

Over the past few days, some newspaper reports ascribing the recent terrorist attacks in Borno State to the government’s negotiation of the release of 21 Chibok girls, with a particular report alleging the exchange of USD 21 million for the girls are false and should be disregarded by members of the public. This loose talk is journalism at its most irresponsible and its most dismaying.

As a responsible government that is run on the basis of the constitution and budgets duly appropriated by the National Assembly, we have no such money under any allocation to pay out this outrageous sum of money as ransom.

Beyond the call of journalism, the newspaper making this charge has a national duty to point how and where this money was paid, and to supply leads as to where the “powerful weapons” were bought by the terrorists.

From the inception of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, the media, local and international groups, have persistently pressured the government to do everything possible to facilitate the release of the Chibok girls. During the election campaigns, President Buhari himself expressed commitment to this and also to bringing an end to terrorism in our country. We then wonder why anyone is turning the defeat of terror and return of the missing persons against the government.

As at the time he came into power, Boko Haram occupied 80 percent of Borno State, 40 percent of Yobe, and a significant segment of Adamawa. Today, the group does not control any territory. The government also has successfully enabled the release of 23 Chibok girls, while negotiations for the release of more, possibly all the rest, are in progress.

The successes recorded by the government in the fight against terrorism have been a result of collaboration between our country’s various security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services, the Police, the Civil Defence, Air Force, the Navy and the Army. Representatives from these arms of our security agencies were also involved in the process of the release of the 21 Chibok girls. It is, therefore, unfair and reckless of any medium to quote unnamed, allegedly disgruntled sources within the military, who now claim that the girls’ release has reinvigorated Boko Haram.

Boko Haram operated freely before the Buhari administration came into power, before they had the Chibok girls and after the girls were abducted from their school. Therefore, whatever the group relies on for strength cannot suddenly be ascribed to the conditions of the negotiations brokered by the local interlocutor, the Swiss government and help from them the International Red Cross, ICRC.

May I humbly, once again appeal to the Nigerian media to continue their unflinching support to the military and other security agencies as they fight to free our country from terrorism. Terrorism and insurgencies remain the biggest threat to Nigeria’s security, economy and national development. The war against terrorism is a matter of life and death, not a marketing tool for selling more newspapers or increasing traffic to websites.

The President has utmost confidence in the nation’s media and urges them to do more to assist and augment the nation’s internal security.
