Radoillo: Indeed. You begin to think there is some predictable pattern to the linguistic variation...then you come across communities that make nonsense of the near-neat pattern you thought existed
You find communities in Enugu State that say 'ani', instead of 'ali/ala'. You would think they would say 'ora'. But no. They say 'oha'.
I was as surprised as you are now when I first learnt of some Abia State communities that have an 'f' where their neighbours have a 'h' or a sound closer to 'h' than to 'f'. An Enugu and Ebonyi man will say 'Ani' an Anambra man is most likely to say 'Ana' while the Imo and Abia man will say 'Ala'. Remarkably,a delta Igbo will say 'Ani' even though he is closer to Anambra than Enugu. I'm an Anambra man. I have been to Ikwere and I understood their dialect of Igbo. I have been to an Ika market. I did my shopping in Igbo and they all understood me although I had to strain my ear to understand them but Ika/Igbo is still a dialect of Igbo that has been influenced by Bini people and it is the borrowed Bini words that makes it harder to understand. Any Delta-Igbo or Anioma indigenes who says they are not Igbo, look well and you will see that he or she is probably a descendant of an Isoko,Urohbo,Itshekiri migrant. Any Rivers Igbo (Ahoada,Etche,Ikwere) who says they are not Igbo, look very well and you will see that it has something to do with oil. |

Yeske2: This is actually the problem we Ndigbo have, we never learn from history. I've asked several times on this forum and elsewhere, if GEJ were to be an Igbo man, would he had received same support and loyalty from non-Igbo Easterners? Answer is a big NO. Let's all roll on and see where this will lead to That's not an easy question to answer because you have to remember that there are close to 20 ethnic groups in the east and non of them are united about anything except oil. I think that if GEJ had been an Igbo man, they would have supported him just like the Igbos supported GEJ because it would have been in their best interest to elect their neigbour rather than some distant Hausa man. Another thing to note is that the Government of Nigeria has been able to successfully use propaganda for many years since the end of the war to brainwash most of these people into falsely thinkng that Igbos will dominate and emasculate them if given the opportunity. |

Who told you Ojukwu started any war? That's how you people distort history. Do you know that Ojukwu went to Ghana and signed a peace treaty with Gowon right in front of the President of Ghana so that there would be no war but Gowon went back to Nigeria and broke the agreement. Ojukwu declared Biafra not war and he only did this after watching over 30,000 easterners, men, women and children butchered in cold blood. It was Gowon that declared war not Ojukwu. If anything,Ojukwu did over and above what was required of him to prevent war. Ojukwu is the only Igbo man who has ever fought for his people and that's why he remains a hero forever amongst his people not minding the suffering and death that occurred. All of that was the price of freedom. Sometimes in life, you don't fight because you are sure you will win,you fight because of dignity because without it,you might as well be dead anyway. |

No no no . I disagree ooo. We cannot leave Anioma or should I say 'Delta-Igbos' back in Nigeria. How can we have Biafra and leave Asaba out of it? Everything from Asaba to Agbor and the Igbo speakng parts of Kwale and Igbanke cannot be left behind unless they come out publicly to say they want to stay in Nigeria. Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu is Delta-Igbo. But when some people want to castigate him for leading the first coup, they will say he is an Igbo man. The same people will later turn around and say that Delta-Igbos are not Igbos because they are in the SS. I laugh in French. |

Frankly, I'm open to this as well. The south-South is made up of so many tribes that it is impossible to understand where all of them stand. I'm also open to the Republic of the Niger-Delta but I'm not sure how United the Itshekiris,Ibibios,Ijaws,Urohbos,Efiks,Anangs and Ogonis are towards this cause. One thing I do know, Igbos are large enough to get Biafra on their own but Niger-Delta Republic will remain a pipe dream without the active support of the Igbos. |

My dear brothers of the East, the political balance of our people is being threatened and for that sole reason I pick my pen to write.
The Igbo's have since the inception of baby Nigeria in 1960 held top government role in the Center, no wonder an Igbo Man ( Late Dr. Azikiwe ) was the Head of State of Nigeria.
Even when the Military came in, it was first headed by an Igbo Man in the person of Late Gen Ironsi. Since after the "no Victor, no vanquish " statement by Gen Gowon at the end of the civil war, the Igbo nation have lost its political relevance at the center and the closest we have come is the Vice Presidency during the 2nd republic.
An average Igbo man is an entrepreneur, an average Igbo man is seen as a hustler, they are not tired of new ideals, so long it fetches them more money. we don't sleep when others sleep and I guess that's what have been keeping us going. And that's the Igbo spirit, we are conquerors.
My dear Brothers of the East, have we been able to transfer our societal lives to our political relevance? then the Big answer is "No" and who is to be blamed for this? is it our Igbo leaders or the Igbo populace? I guess you will answer the question yourself after reading this piece.
When shall we have an Igbo President ? if you are of Igbo origin reading then I crave your answer. President Jonathan tactically added Azikiwe to his name and we all followed him, calling him one of us, but is he actually one of us? because the Jonathan I know is an Ijaw man.
How many vote did Ojukwu get during the 2003 Presidential election, a number not even up to 30% of the total voting population of the Igbo's, yet he was always tagged a leader of the Igbo's. who is fooling who?
"Igbo's show fort thy leaders"
Senator Ngige many tagged as a political powerhouse in Anambra could not even win the last senatorial elections in Idemili South.
"Igbo's show fort thy leaders"
Gov Rochas had to struggle through an election rerun to return to Douglas House
I ask again " Igbo's show forth thy leaders"
recently one of us, Ifeanyi Ubah showed an uncommon act of patriotism by deciding to release fuel (P.M.S) to various fuel station in the country at normal pump prices and some sit at the comfort of their homes criticising this act of Patriotism by our brother, and I won't be surprised if fellow Igbo's join in the criticism, for we are very good at that.
Ifeanyi Ubah, for sacrificing profits that can be made in this fuel scarcity to the good of the nation, I call you an Igbo leader, we need more people like you in our pursuit of relevance.
My people, "umu nwannem" our Major problem over the years have been identifying one of us, positioning him/her to the Center and backing that candidate all the way. If we can do this with the application of few political calculations then we will be at our rightful place, which is the Zenith of the political affairs of Nigeria and not struggle for the appointment of Secretary of the Federal Government.
God help us all. (ndi Igbo, umu nwannem) After this write up yours, if you still don't understand why us Igbos should agitate for our own country then you are lost. Nigeria was basically an experiment to see if the 3 main ethnic groups of Hausa-Fulani, Igbo, Yorubas and the minorities could could live together in a progressive society. That experiment failed woefully. It is time for the Igbos to seek their destiny in another political atmosphere. Igbos should not be relegated to seeking relevance in this British created contraption called Nigeria. It is time for us to breakaway and form Biafra. |

I don't think mentruation is the worst a guy has worry about with his woman during 'that time of the month'. It's a woman's biological make up and all men have to learn to live with it (we all probably already lived with it with our sisters and mother). The main thing a guy has to live with is PMT or PMS. I think the OP made a serious error of judgement by saying that the SS are not part of the Biafran movement. How can you claim to speak for the SS? What is your definition of the SS? Do you know that there at least 20 tribes in the SS including Igbos and you claim to speak for all of them? Unlike Nigeria, Biafra is not forcing anyone to join it. What we want is a referendum and let the SS people decide where they belong. If my home state of Anambra has a referendum and decide they will stay in Nigeria, even I will accept. |

The iboman from anambra feels he's more superior to the ibos in imo state, while the ibos in enugu sees the ebonyi ibos as failures and lazy people.
You people might unite( against your perceived enemies) for now, but whenever your biafra nonsense is achieved, the loathe you have for one another will sprung up and before the world could take any action, another new nation called biafra will turn to south-Sudan.
Well sorry, Nigeria is not ready to accommodate any refugees. The people displaced by boko haram are already enough for us.
I really don't like commenting on this biafra and lower niger nonsense because I know is a fruitless cause and also a waste of time.
