san316: Questioning the continuous existence of a country is treason. This is what MASSOB is doing but since we are in a lawless country, some foolish posters are talking nonsense. Let him be arrested and let's see what will happen. Just like they said the country will burn if GEJ loses. When Alex Salmond, the erstwhile head of the Scottish national party (SNP) questiond the continued the continued existence of Britain last year, the Scotland was given a referendum because Britain is a civilised country that does not force anyone to belong to it. But in backward Nigeria, when anyone questions the British fabrication called Nigeria, they are frivolously charged with treason and clamped in jail. This Nigeria is really something. |

Don't mind that ofe mmanu. The major reason why the Yoruba man fights over Lagos is because aside Lagos, there's nothing in the SW. While I can give it to Yorubas that they are academicians and captains of industries, it is incredible that besides Lagos, there is no commercial hub-city in all of Yoruba land. You cant find the equivalent of Onitsha,Nnewi or Aba in Yorubaland. Oh well, everyone has his own area of strenght I guess. |

IdiAmin1: So Ojukwu was senior to Gowon afterall, hmmm. It has been a subject of debate about who is senior between Gowon and Ojukwu. Gowon stated recently while celebrating his 80th Birthday that he was commissioned as an officer in 1956 while Ojukwu was commissioned in 1957 making him Ojukwus senior in the army. This is true, however it should be noted that an Army officer is still a civil servant. Ojukwu joined the civil service as a graduate in 1955. When Ojukwu joined the Army and was subsequently commissioned in 1957 after undergoing officers training abroad, the government backdated his commission date to 1955 to reflect the year he joined the civil service and that is how Ojukwu gained seniority over Gowon. The government just saw his joining the military as transferring from one Government department to another. To this day, the Government still recognises Ojukwu as senior to Gowon while the Army might recognise Gowon as senior to Ojukwu. |

Gbawe: And the problem with people like you is that you do not understand that there are ways to show you don't see yourselves as Nigerians which would make others take you seriously. You understand the saying "charity begins at home"? Why , if serious about your wish to reject and move away from the rest of us, do you not insularly remain in your domain and make it a microcosm of the separate "great" nation you claim you want and are capable of building?
What would make other Nigerians and indeed the entire world take you seriously more than this? Yet you come here daily telling us all other Nigerians are your problem and are the groups "holding you" back meanwhile your nomadic lifestyle, typified by your readiness to go anywhere in search of wealth and prosperity, mark you out as confused , hateful and hypocritical.
If you do not feel Nigerian, and this is truly a general feeling of your ethnic group all Igbos adhere to as a matter of principle, why not begin showing us you mean business by shunning interaction with the rest of Nigeria to make Ebonyi, Anambra, Abia, ENugu, Imo et al superlative models of how Igbos can create paradise in any space they are completely free to define? Or are you not free to define your space as you wish? Yet why do you leave your domain in droves to adopt the language and culture of others only to turn around and say those same people you willingly travelled to live with hold you back? I will never take your kind seriously as long as the real actions of Igbos on the ground show they need other Nigerians more than the other way round.
Good Nigerians, to include Igbos, are sick of the hypocrisy of bitter individuals like you who are unwilling to let go of the past. The way forward is very simple. You don't "feel Nigerian" then stay away from Nigerians completely. Don't trade with them, don't migrate to where they live and don't interact with them socially. You have the States to enable you to do this, i.e keep to yourselves. We are all sick of your bitter diatribe where you hypocritically say you want your own Country and that the rest of us hinder your progress yet your real nomadic lifestyles bear people like you out as confused, hateful and bigoted hypocrites.
If you and other secession-minded Igbos are genuinely intelligent and sincere then you would have realised that land borders mean nothing to resolute and 100% sincere agitators. You can create an insularly great Igbo region, irrespective of Nigeria and definitive of the "supremacist" talent you go on about non-stop, if that is genuinely what majority of Igbos want and are committed to delivering. Listen man,we are not in a stone-age. The "ECOWAS" embossed at the top of the Nigerian passport did not get there by mistake. It is there to encourage economic co-operation and free movement of west Africans without the need for the member nation to give up their sovereignty. This same principle applies with the European union (EU). I do not have to give up my sovereignty to do business with a Yoruba man or Hausa man. Igbos don't have to be in the same country to the Yorubas or Hausas for us to anything mutually beneficial for all. I have read on NL how some Yorubas have said that they cannot take Igbos serious about wanting there own country unless they leave Lagos and go back their homeland and I laugh. Why would anyone even think this if not to spite the Igbos? Have all the Yorubas in west Africa,Europe and America been sent back for not being citizens of their host countries? The commercial activities of Igbos in Lagos are contributing in generating revenues for not just Lagos but Nigeria as a whole but someone wants the Igbos to go because they want their own country. What will be next? You send back all the Chinese,Indians and Ghanains? How can Nigeria even send anyone back without leaving ECOWAS first. The Igbos need and want their sovereignty stolen by the British back. I do not need my destiny decided in Abuja and I certainly don't want any political Union with Yorubas or Hausas. You can't enforce your "Lord Lugardian dream" on people who don't want it. A country is by the consent of the people and not by force or fiat. |

Gbawe: Indeed. Every time I come to nairaland, I have to literally slap myself 'normal' because of how posters like zendy talk aberrantly. Everywhere else in the world, and because of the stone-age problems of our nation, the focus of the people would be on adequate electricity supply, optimal healthcare, bridging our massive infrastructure deficit, developing a modern, modular and robust transport sector, provision of quality education that will assist Nigerians be the sort of solutions providers who can produce first class products and services the world wants, etc , etc, etc.
Yet it is very disappointing to see that some, to the detriment of their own development, prefer to wallow in the mindless hatred of others and the unproductive insistence of holding on to the past to the extent they always prefer to remain bitter and vengeful even when the unique opportunity has arisen for all of us to make a fresh and productive start for the sake of our Nation. Clearly GEJ was a failure. How would it hurt any Nigerian, genuinely desirous of the progress of their own country, to grant Buhari their goodwill, support him, even if temporarily, and hope he delivers so Nigeria can be the great nation God intended her to be ? The problem with your write up is that you don't seem to understand that not all of us see our selves as Nigerians. What is a Nigerian except a west-African who subscribes to an 'colonial identity' foisted on him by a British profiteer called Lugard? You have no country as at yet. |

After Buhari, power is coming back to the south and of course, everybody knows that igbon reserve it. The question is, who is that Igbo man that has national appeal, that could be accepted across all divides of the country? Its only Rochas I see for now. Not tribalistic Peter Obi that Jonathan was positioning for the job. Definitely not Maligned Orji Uzor Kalu. The Igbos need to put heads together and find a common front from now on. They should stop been vindictive, emotional and egocentric but visionary in their words and actions. I wish them well. These APC people haven't even gotten into office and they already turning into 'PDP'. Look at this one predicting who will become president after Buhari. He doesn't even know if there will be a party called APC in 4 years time or if APC will not turn out to be more unpopular than PDP. Chances are that there won't even be a country called a Nigeria in 4 years time. |

Our only option as a people is to either agitate for a true fiscally compliant federation, a confederation, or everybody should go answer their papa name.....simple! Not all this stupid going to beg a Fulani man not to forget Igbos! I mean, have they no shame!? These people they're going to 'beg' are the very same people that have hated, marginalized and murdered Ndigbo......and there's no sign that they're remorseful for their past actions, yet some old fools are going to 'plead' with these very same people 'not to forget Igboland'!
Since the end of the uncivil war, we've had bastard sons and daughters like these fools that have done exactly what these knobheads are doing today, yet where has it left us as a region compared to others in attracting 'federal attention and projects'!? People that hate you will continue to hate you, so you better wise-up and fight for true freedom and not all this nonsense they're asking Buhari for!
Fools!! It would be a good thing for Nigeria to be run on a regional or confederal type government (amazingly, this is the only area of Nigerian politics that Igbos and Yoruba see eye to eye) that has fiscal responsibility but unfortunately, the North will never agree to it for three reasons: 1) It will make nonsense of 'born to rule' because the Central Government will be weak while the federating regions will be strong. 2)The North fears it it will lose out on oil money 3) no northerner has forgotten how the east seceded under the regional system, hence they need to maintain 'divide and rule'. They will always fear that regionalsm will make it easier for the SE/SS seceed. These 3 reasons are why Nigeria is a 'nest of deciet' which will never work. |

This explains their extreme clannishness .The Eboe identity was foisted on them by the British/Nigeria They were developmentally quite bakward relatively and have no meaningful history to share. They were essential a farm that the Efiks harvested for slaves for centuries There's the saying that " Igbo eh nwe Eze". This means that " Igbos don't have kings" ( although the accurate translation is that Igbos never had and will never have a king). That's just the egalitarian nature of the Igbo man that he doesn't recognise anyone as his superior wherever he is. That's why the Igbos never had central form of authority unlike the Yoruba that had the Oyomesi and the Hausa that had the Sokoto caliphate. To this day, it still amazes an Igboman like me that a Yoruba man can prostrate on the floor to another human being bacause I know that someone will have to kill me before I can agree to do this. We Igbos have been fighting colonialism for a long time. We fought the authority of the British but failed,we fought the Northern dominated Nigerian army in Biafra and failed but I'm proud of my people for fighting where others ran away like cowards. When we win, we shall win big. Until then,we keep fighting |

OrlandoOwoh: There has been no time any head of state, president or prime minister that governed Nigeria has been prepared to pilot the affairs of the most populous black country. From Tafawa-Balewa/Azikiwe to Jonathan, all got to the seat of power unprepared. Some didn't even have the interest. 1. Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa/Nnamdi Azikiwe: As it is with the practice in parliamentary system, the leader of the party with majority in the parliament emerges the Prime Minister. But in the case with Nigeria, the NPC (albeit with NCNC) which got majority had its leader, Ahmadu Bello reliquishing the office of Prime Minister to his deputy, Tafawa-Balewa. 2. Maj.-Gen. J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi who became the Head of State on 15 January 1966 got to the post when the coup plotters of January 15 failed to kill him, having killed the Prime Minister. He got there in his capacity as the GOC of the Nigerian Army. 3. Lt.-Col. Yakubu Gowon who took over from Aguiyi-Ironsi had it "forced" on him by some northern officers led by Lt. Col. Murtala Muhammed, Maj. T.Y. Danjuma and Capt. Martins Adamu, who led the July 1966 coup. Any of them could have retired him and become the head of state. 4. Brig. Murtala Muhammed was called by Col. Joe Garba and other officers to lead the country after the July 1975 coup. It is widely known that Muhammed was flown into the country from the UK after all the airports had been closed. 5. Lt.-Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo who became Head of State on 13 February 1976 succeeded Muhammed who was assassinated in a coup on the same day. According to Kole Omotosho in "Just Before Dawn", when Obasanjo was approached to lead Nigeria, he was met weeping. 6. Alh. Shehu Shagari who was sworn in as the first executive President on 1 October 1979, was originally eyeing the Senate, not the Presidency. 7. Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari who became the Head of State on 31 December 1983 was approached by other officers who overthrew Shagari, to lead the country. He was flown from Jos, where was the GOC of a division to Lagos. 8. Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Babangida overthrew Buhari. 9. Chief Ernest Shonekan was the Interim President. He got there when the pressure on Babangida became much. 10. Lt.-Gen. Sanni Abacha who was the Minister of Defence in the Interim National Government overthrew Shonekan. 11. Lt.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar who became Head of State on July 8 1998, succeeded Abacha who died on the same day. 12. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was brought out of prison in 1998 to contest in 1999. He has less than a year to prepare after the trauma he went through in prison. 13. Alh. Umaru Yar'Adua: He became President after it was forced on him even though his health status was known. 14. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan became President after Yar'Adua died in office. 15. Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) became President on May 29 2015 after he had been contesting since 2003. It's funny that he was so prepared but could not tell the people one single policy his government will run with. I was expecting to hear how he will deal with corruption, reduce inflation, improve the economy, create jobs, eradicate Boko haram. All we heard was lip service in that heavy Hausa accent of his. I don't think the man has anything to offer but only time will tell |
