FamilyRe: What's The Kindest Thing A Stranger Had Ever Done To You Before by Zenithpeak(m):
It was around 5am one Wednesday morning that I needed to catch up with an appointment by 6am... Neatly dressed, with a nice tie to compliment my dressing. It was too early for Okadas and taxis to start their day in my area.... the only option is to trek.

Thank God its a twilight, and no one would see me running, I thought to myself; before I could complete the thought process, I was already on 40km/h.. grin competing for an imaginary Olympic gold medal with myself. smiley

After few minutes of early morning madness, a golf 3 car passed me by on high speed, but stopped abruptly, and reversed immediately towards me and asked "Oga, I hope all is well? This one you are running like this early in morning".....

It was a very young military officer going to report for duty. The guy helped me to a comfortable bus stop where I got a bike to my destination though, away from his own route and I was able to meet up with my appointment.

Thank you Mr nice officer.

FamilyRe: Should I Tell My Friend About His Wife Or Play Dumb? by Zenithpeak(m): 5:57pm On Jun 18, 2021
ngkman:
Good morning and sorry to disturb you with this but I had a sleepless night and I thought to share this with someone.....who else if not my good brothers and sisters on Nairaland.

About a year ago I moved in to a new compound and discovered one of my neighbors came from the state as me and we easily bonded and became like brothers, our wives not from the same state as us too became close. A few months later, another lady from the same state as us too moved in and became a part of the relationship.

Things became sour when we started noticing what other neighbors had tried to draw our attention to, being that my said brother's wife is a chronic liar and busy body who creates tension between people with her lies.

My wife and I had a fight when she told my wife I said she was the cause of my parents HBP. What I actually said to her husband while she was in the kitchen was " my wife tells my parents about our fights and I don't like it because they are hypertensive".

Among others, if she gives you #100, she tells people it's #10000, if she eats your food, she goes out and says no maggi or this and that. She calls you a miser while she can't ordinarily do more than you.

She had even matchmaked our sister in the compound with another man, the man later told our sister his colleague had brought him to collect his share of the "kpekus" and to eat her money but he can't go through when he realized she was a good woman with a good heart.

Now this said sister went for her introduction with another man last week Saturday without telling them because of his wife and her mouth. He called me as a man and complained to me how he felt bad when he saw others congratulating her while he knew nothing about it.

This man is a good man, very good but his wife is the problem. I don't want to tell him he wasn't informed because of his wife and I don't want to lie to him as a brother.

I faked a call and said we'd talk about it today.

My good brothers and sisters and elders on Nairaland, I need your matured advice. Thanks
You got nothing to tell my bro else, you'll be treated as busybody.... Just protect yourself and your wife from her venoms. How sure are you that her husband doesn't know about her bad manners? The man may be playing dumb about it to avoid high blood pressure.

DO NOT ASSASSINATE YOUR CHARACTER BY YOURSELF.

Like say nah makinde cause the fighting or what . I no just understand . wetin concern him with the in fighting btw motor parks that left 2 members dead. At least , No 3rd party died. So, if makinde had gone out to meet them . won't you people disguise and call him governor who listened more to the thug's ? Hypocrisy every where . APC should just forget about Oyo state come 2023 ,
The fracas is not even about the motor park boys but those boys that sells phone around 'Baba Onilu' area of Iwo Road, just before under bridge.

A civil defense guy was tricked into buying a very bad phone... The guy later came back for refund of his money alongside few of his colleagues as reinforcements.

Those Iwo Road boys started whinnying and taunting them until the issue went out of hand and the whole fracas became multifaceted.

One of the deceased is the son of the woman who owns the complex where the fight broke out.

I wonder how the story was twisted by APC alborotadors that Seyi Makinde is the author of the fracas.

PoliticsRe: FG Borrowed ₦1.3 Trn In Four Years To Subsidise Power Consumers - World Bank by Zenithpeak(m): 12:29pm On Jun 17, 2021
omohayek:
That you insist on ignoring the established fact that these companies have published financial reports, which are independently audited, suggests that the problem with reality is yours. Just because it makes you feel good to see yourself as a victim doesn't falsify objective, easily confirmed facts, and it certainly does nothing for your credibility.

You are engaging in the very kind of fallacious motivated "reasoning" all too many Nigerians are prey to. Instead of looking at the hard evidence and reasoning forward from there, you've decided that you don't like your current circumstances, that the DISCOs are entirely to blame, and that therefore they must be 100% evil and any mitigating factors mentioned about their failings must also be a lie. This allows you to indulge your feelings of self-righteousness but does nothing to help you see what course of action you should be agitating for to make things better.

If all you care about is that short term emotional catharsis, have at it, but nothing will change for the better in Nigeria until you and the many others like you get over your subjectivity and try to understand things beyond their perceived direct impact on you. Your personal experiences are merely anecdotal, not a basis for grasping what ails a country of 200 million people.
In as much as I understand and appreciate your patriotic stance on the subject matter, but, quite hypocritical to mutilate my post by mentioning the only part that will make you feel comfortable and look good in the eyes of people that monitors your nationalistic activism online....

When figures and statistics negates realities on ground then, such report is subject to suspicion. The most honest parameter to measure governance is by firstly, check your micro (personal/ immidiate) environment basic needs and justify your accessibilities to the availability of provision of such basic amenities before looking into your macro environment.
To me, those "your" verified and audited report by standard accounting and auditing firm remains inapplicable to our current realities in Nigeria in as much as we are still paying for services not enjoyed.

The truth is those reports were falsified and premised on mere assumptions. Let them metrize all consumers and all payments are electronically motivated, then, I will agree with you that they are undercharging the consumers and there is need for upward review in their billing rates/mgwt.

Isn't it awkward that the DISCOS are undercharging for power that is not being supplied to the consumers? Funny enough they have verified report to justify such mammoth fraud!. I really don't understand how subsidy is even applicable in this kind of situation.
PoliticsRe: FG Borrowed ₦1.3 Trn In Four Years To Subsidise Power Consumers - World Bank by Zenithpeak(m):
omohayek:
Whatever sharp practices may exist, they don't detract from the fact that the DISCOs aren't charging enough to cover their costs. This isn't a matter of opinion or logic, it is a statement of fact: these are officially registered companies which must regularly submit financial reports that are independently audited by reputable accountancy companies. If the DISCOs were supposedly raking it in as you imagine, this would be a matter of public record, and foreign investors would be clamoring to get into the supposedly lucrative Nigerian market just as they have done for mobile telecoms, but instead we are seeing the opposite happening.

Any irregularities of the sort you mention fall under the purview of the regulatory authorities, and their unwillingness or inability to enforce legal obligations the power companies might owe to consumers. It also doesn't help that the Nigerian legal system is horribly slow, overburdened and in any case deeply corrupt, so consumers are denied that avenue of recourse as well. Still, none of this has anything to do with the core issue at hand, which is that the DISCOs aren't getting enough income from the heavily subsidised tariffs to make it worthwhile for them to expand capacity. Many of them aren't even able to cover their running costs, let alone invest in upgrades.
Forget all those "they are not covering their monthly running cost and statements of facts" which are contrary to reality. People are paying for electricity not supplied on monthly basis. Buying of electric cables, poles, and transformers has become primary responsibility of the communities while they come at the end of month to cash in on both private and community efforts and you people are making fallacy "statement of fact" that they are not making profit after their monthly running cost. Show me their investment in real time and I will show you how how much communities has invested into that sector.

Again, that DISCOS are not making profit as envisaged is a negligible fact once the essence is totally defeated... It is even criminal of Nigerian government paying subsidy for power not distributed and consumed.

My client just paid for new 3 concrete electric poles to replace the existing wooden poles which are in terrible state in an area where he is doing a project. Tell me, should that be his responsibility? That they are charging less is not my problem but the fact that, I am paying for electricity not supplied!
PoliticsRe: FG Borrowed ₦1.3 Trn In Four Years To Subsidise Power Consumers - World Bank by Zenithpeak(m): 9:44am On Jun 17, 2021
omohayek:
The fact that a company whose entire business is selling power should be afraid to add new customers should be enough to tell you that they aren't being allowed to charge enough to make a profit!

Just as Fashola said so long ago (and for which he was so heavily ridiculed by the ignorant), Nigeria's power problems aren't rocket science, just as Nigeria's inability to run sustainable domestic refineries isn't due to rocket science. If you introduce price controls in any area of enterprise or industry, you guarantee that shortages will occur, and if the price controls are harsh enough, producers will decide that they are better off exiting the market entirely rather than losing money on each sale. You'd think Nigeria would have learned from the Venezuelan example, but each successive government has operated either from fear of popular backlash (GEJ) or total ignorance of basic economics (Buhari).
Your explanation is absolutely logical but far away from our reality.

This is our reality in my area; the power distribution company in my area already had monthly fixed charges for individual houses irrespective of whether there's electricity supply or not.

They already know their monthly gross income from the area and the only way to maximize their profit is by denying power supply for more than "sometimes" 24days in a month therefore, connecting consumers to ppm will spell their doom.

They also downsized greatly in term of staff strength... So, if there's fault anywhere in my area, it becomes the primary responsibility of the community to fix it but, they'll always come to for the money at the end of the month.

Lastly, they buy less power from the GENCOS' there by never had enough power to go round their coverage area at once.... They are doing this to minimize investment cost but maximize thier income.

It is a fraudulent scheme which persist because there's no reasonable regulatory body that will sanction all these sharp practices.

So, the subsidy on power is absolutely meaningless in reality.
