The Daily Struggles Of Young, Unmarried Nigerians Today
It's no surprising that cases of depression are on the rise.
1. There's inflation affecting basic staples.
2. Most young NIgerians do not earn enough to plan for their futures.
3. Most young people express fears for their mental health. Especially for self-employed individuals who won't earn except their services and products are used.
So how do you keep hope alive?
How do you deal with rising bills?
How do you plan for a family as a single, unmarried nigerian?
In the above video, everyday Nigerians share their strategies for cutting costs, increasing their earning and managing the bills that come with romance.
descarado: Juvenik wuse 2 was my restaurant of choice when I was in Abuja. Very close to my house and their soup is the best I have ever tasted anywhere in naija, be it buka, mama put etc, and a plate of soup is very big. I think they purposely made it like that cos unmarried people living around go and buy, scoop out and freeze the remaining. As long as they have swallow, a plate of soup from there can last one 3 serving. It was cheaper buying their expensive soup for singles if you do the math. Its a good place to mingle too for singles if you understand what I mean. Believe me, if you don't like eating that much, arrangements like that are cheaper. If you want to cook and consider cooking cheap in Abuja, you must shop in bulk if you live in areas like wuse and environs else it will be the same as eating out. I hardly shop in wuse market though its like 5 minutes walk from my house. Na politician wives and girlfriends market Here for example, making a full naij dish costs an arm and leg. Single eat out most times. No gas or electricity bill skyrocketing.
Acidosis: Ohh... I see. I haven't watched the entire video.
You are right though. Eating out can be very expensive reason I personally wouldn't expect adolescents/youths to prioritise eating out regularly instead of preparing their own meals.
I recently came across a Domino's jollof rice and pizza combo ad and decided to place an order. I was just drawn to the fact that sapa has made Domino's "abandon" pizza for Nigerian jollof The taste was super cool. But, as always, I was disappointed with the portion I got. It was more like a serving suitable for a 2-year-old. Na why I don't bother myself. Of course, I know places where people get bigger portions for cheaper amounts, but due to personal reasons like trauma, I don't bother myself..
na lie! dominsos don dey sell jollof rice. na wa for dis country o. ecosystem hard
When he's done with that, he should watch the video below and pay particular attention to the stories of the young men. Those who were faced with similar dilemmas.
This also made frontpage last week friday. It'll explain how his wife-to-be is currently thinking, and how she most likely will start to perceive him once they get married.
Tell your friend to watch this video- When women earn more
It made frontpage a few days ago and it addresses exactly all the issues you've described above that your friend is passing through. It explains why he can not ignore the earnings gap. Let him pay particular attention to what the young men say, (Not the opinions of the ladies in the video)
Aaaaarghmed: maybe I did not write the story well, she was my babe at that time, I was helping her house hunt.we have broken up.Thats why I am referring to her as an Ex
The man who will likely marry you. There's two kinda men
Marrying kind; and fuckboys.
WOmen will waste years of their lives trying to get fuckboys to commit.
Check most women aged 30 who aren't married. Several have spent years with badboy(s) and kept ignoring the marrying kind cause the fuckboy had better swag
This was in March 2022 people are quoting 4k, 3k, 2k daily on food. Do you think the cost went up or down from then to now? Why are you guys making a big deal out of what the lady said?
Oga, it's not poverty mentality.
Go and check the thread you posted up there and see the responses to her 3K also. We no dey abuse the babe. We just dey aggregate the cost of her food alone.
Why una dey like lie for people like dis? Na una type go dey deceive woman wey don marry say her husband no dey try for am.
How many married women for Nigeria fit dey carry dem family go dey chop 4K for restaurant every day? How many?
Imagine say husband and wife get 3 pikin. Five of dem come dey chop 4K each for restaurant every day. Na 20K be dat daily. Times am by 30 days, he go come mean say family dey chop 600K food monthly. 600K! Unless dem dey work for police wey dey collect roger for road, or dem be agbero wey dey collect owoda.
Even if husbdan and wife both dey make 1Milla steadily monthly
How dem go take pay rent, fuel car, pay school fees and build dem house?
Na bad tin. No dey try disguise am say na flexing. I no fit marry woman wey dey proud say she dey spend dat kain money on top food daily.
Childfree: Yeah the average Nigerian doesn't even earn such in the first place to even spend that on food. Like I said it depends on the individual's income and if he's willing to spend such on food. It is not aliens eating in such places where 3 square meals cost 4k or more (120k or more monthly).
So because most average Nigerians can only afford cars of 2-4 million, then someone shouldn't buy a car of 20million even if he can afford it or that's what he likes?
If he can afford to spend 60k daily on food why not? I see nothing wrong with that. Curious, why do you see it as a problem?
Let me be clear, are you implying that the quantity of 4k food is too plenty for someone to finish it or what? Or the lady doesn't have the money?
the lady in the video said that she spends over 4K everyday on food. For most Nigerians, this isn't within the realm of possibility.
The conversation is relative to the expenses of everyday Nigerians.
Childfree: I don't know if the lady mentioned how much money she makes. Wether she's the one paying for it or someone funding her is not the problem based on what I see from the thread.
Is there a rule that says a lady can't or shouldn't spend 4k daily on food?
Everyone spends according to what he/she can afford or likes. 4k divided by 3 is just #1,300
Are you saying no place where a plate of food would cost 1,300 or what? Probably in her case it even include water and a drink sef.
I rarely eat outside. If I do, the mama put not far from my place is 450 per plate. Further down my place an ordinary restaurant is 800 per plate. X3 is already 2,600 i.e without water or any drink oo. Are you saying there are no people that eat 3X there always?
The restaurant where a meal cost 1k, 1.3k or 1.5k... and so on, X3 is already 4k+. Is it not people eating there? Or are you saying there are no people that make such places the sole place they eat?
So what are you guys saying?
Unless them guys don't eat outside or they are still being feed at home.
The problem is you guys are calculating her expenses based on your earnings lol.
they are calculating it based on the average income of a Nigerian. there are places where you can eat 20K per meal in Lagos.
what would your response be if a guy said he eats 60K per day. would you advise your sister to marry such?
Aaaaarghmed: I saw the signs, but I was blinded by love.Just tell her you are broke even though you have money, allow her spend for you for sometime and see.As an experience master, here is a short story of what happened to me..I travelled all the way from state to assist my ex to house hunt, she gave me the transport to hold ,we dey waka follow agent to check one house and along the line ,me and my ex had an argument,do you know that this girl asked me to give her back all the remaining money she gave me ,down to the last penny, embarrased me in front of the agent. The man sef weak.
MrBrownJay1: in a r/ship, lack of respect and/or abuse of any kind, is a deal breaker, nobody should ever stand for it or even "manage" it. these people are showing you small traits of WHO THEY REALLY ARE... if you dont act upon it there and then, then it will be your downfall in the long run (because as time goes on, they get more comfortable in the r/ship and their true disrespectful/abusive self comes out even more)
how do you differentiate one-off situations from habitual disrespect? at why point will it be just enough for people to leave?
MrBrownJay1: majority of time you can tell by the way you see them treat others in their life.... but beware, as there are many women/men out there who pretend to be who they are not for a long time... so the idea is that THE MINUTE THAT PERSON SHOWS YOU ANY TYPE OF LACK OF RESPECT (OR ANY TYPE OF ABUSE), YOU MUST GET RID OF THEM, THERE AND THEN!
