People often cite their environment as the reason why they live a sinful lifestyle, but this is untenable before God. A good number of people who found themselves in ungodly environments still maintain their loyalty to the Holy God, and they testify against such people on the last day.

Indeed, living holy among ungodly people is possible. Joseph is one example of someone who lived a righteous life in the midst of the ungodly. As seen in Genesis 39:7-12, he lived under the same roof with an ungodly person who happened to be his boss, and yet he kept his integrity. Nowadays, some people who profess to be born again easily give in when pressured by their superiors to do ungodly things at work. They do this either to gain a promotion or because they fear losing their job, forgetting that the Holy Spirit said those who will live godly lives in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution (2nd Timothy 3:12).

They also ignore His admonition in 1st Timothy 6:6 which says:

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
Sadly, in spite of what the Lord said in Mark 10:29-30, many people believe that to be born again is to escape a life that will experience persecutions. For such people, living a holy life is not a possibility.

What is holiness?

It is simply obedience to the word of God. When you are obedient to God’s word, you demonstrate faith in him, and your life will be pleasing in His sight. That is what holiness is all about. It was disobedience that took Adam from a position of glory to labouring under a curse. Take a cue from Joseph who in the face of deadly pressure said in Genesis 39:9:

“….how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

Daniel is another person whose life showed that living a godly life in the midst of ungodliness is possible. His actions in Daniel 1:8 demonstrate that living a holy life is a matter of personal decision. Some people would not want to join the police force because they believe all policemen are corrupt. This is not true! You can be a police officer and decide not to be corrupt. Some run away from being accountants so that they are not tempted to falsify figures.

How wrong they are! You don’t need to be an accountant before you steal the funds of an organisation. A governor who purposes in his heart not to embezzle public funds will maintain his integrity, whereas a messenger could end up stealing cans of coffee in his or her custody. Irrespective of your location, with Christ in you, you can live a holy life and enjoy the promotion that it brings, just like Joseph and Daniel did.

My friend, the individual choice of the typical Ebonyian to freely choose which belief system to subscribe to must be respected. My take remains that Muslims whether up north or down south must let others freely practice the faith of their choice just as they have the freedom to do in Ebonyi where they freely proselytise! On the growth of Islam in Ebonyi I can only tell you that the thing speaks for itself! That you refuse, omit and or neglect to move from your position does not disturb ongoing motion around where you at.

But why do Muslims who think and speak as you do not rise to stridently condemn such acts? I have Muslim blood relatives, close friends, professional colleagues and neighbors who know these realities but are hard put to admit them or act as desirable in all the circumstances. Some Muslims I know secretly subscribe to Christianity but fear to show so openly for fear of their lives! They find themselves between the rock and the hard place! Not good!

Absolutely untrue! False! Ever being to Ebonyi State - Abakaliki et al? It is somewhere deep in the South-East where Islam thrives without let or hinderance. At its present rate of growth in sometime not far from now the Muslim Ummah there is set to rival the Christian throng. That is a proper society where you live and let live. I can bet that no sooner than Islam becomes the dominant religion in Ebonyi that it will come to pass that you dare not cook and eat in the open when Ramadan is ongoing! It should be Kano re-enacted! When Boko Haram came up the Sultan kept deathly quiet about condemning the terrorists for what they were and the Late but prominent Egba Muslim and SecGen to NSCIA Dr. Lateef Adegbite maintained they were not terrorists just because BH are Muslims and it should (ostensibly) be to the benefit of Islam if they overran Nigeria destroying Churches and hoisting the flag of The Crescent and Star at Aso Rock. When come came to become and BH went rabid destroying Mosques and killing Muslims we now had whimpering about how bad BH was!

Sad, but the truth is when the rubber hits the road Islam is an “either or” proposition! Where it is deeply rooted it makes no room for a competing belief system. To say otherwise is to push taqqiya which itself is the tool for advancing Islam unobtrusively. It is their fundamental right to practice what they believe and encourage others to subscribe to same but reprehensible to prevent other faiths from doing so! It imports a necessary and continuous contestation.

Truth, indeed, is that Islam takes no prisoners! If you are careless about maintaining your space (freedom of Worship) where you at and it takes root there it will deny you same! Europe was careless in maintaining its freedom Of Worship and other fundamental rights and Islam took root with the result that there are now communities there where unless you are Muslim you are not welcome! In the name of freedom of Worship they were welcome to practice what they believe only to turn around and insist on their religious practice even where it threatens to erode the culture and lifestyle of their hosts.

Talk! Truth is, Islam takes no prisoners! Islam is an “either or” proposition! If Islam comes into your space simply keep your distance and maintain your space.
