And then Hades spoke, the walls shook.
I strain, in mind and body. I fight to control the urge, the urge to let down the axe, to behead. I fight to expel the demon within, and push it without. A sweat breaks out of my forehead, the first outward sign of my inward struggle, my struggle to regain myself.
And then Hades speaks, the walls thunder.
“Mortal! Be still! I propose a trade!”, it said.
I tremble under the axe, my hands twitching front and back. The gleams in the darkness, ready to taste ichor, blood of immortals, ready to spill the blood of its master.
“Me?! Trade?! With you? I have no place for such!”, I say, No! the power in me says.
It is ready to bring down the axe, but I fight it on the inside. And then I see Minions eyes, cold as ice, hard as rock, I see him, bruised and battered. The unrepentant bastard, someone called him a warrior once, a godling. But I never understood, now I do. For as I look into his eyes, dark eyes of will, no fear, no surrender, I know he is, I know he is a warrior, a godling.
“Free me! Release me! Do not fight me! Let me bring down the axe! Stop fighting!”, the voice said to me, it spoke to me on the inside, in my head, for I am winning. I am regaining control, I am releasing my grip, to let the axe fall away.
But the power is too strong, I cant hold it back too long. It is creeping back, faster and harder into my mind. It wants blood…..and head too.
Well if I cant drop it, at least I can throw it.
And then I swing down my shoulders, away from Minion, towards the throne of Darkness, towards Hades it flew.
I pause. Hell! Even the demon inside my head paused his talks and fighting. We just stared, me, the demon, and even Minon.
Hades raises a hand, the axe hangs in the air, floating, frozen in place, unmoving in black air. And then Hades puts down the hand, and the axe resumes its swinging motion, faster and swifter, I can hear the sound of steel slicing through air, it is going for the kill, except now, it is moving in the opposite direction, it is moving towards me.
What?! Towards me?! Yepa! God no go put me for trouble! I try to run, but my legs were unresponsive, Hell! I even tried to crawl, but the damn demon inside me stops me, he holds me still.
“Do not fear!”, it said to me,” I will show you how powerful I am. I will show you the power I wield, the power I can share with you if you let me!”
The axe is coming now closer and closer, its blade glittering at me, I can fell the cold steel smiling, ready to feast on warm blood, but I cannot run, I am stuck in its path.
“For he that is in you, is greater than he that is in the world!”, the voice shouts to me once more, for the last time, the last second before the axe strikes.
And then I raise my hand to receive the axe. No! it raised my hand, I wont be foolish enough to do such. It raised my hand to stop the axe. I feel the power surging in my palm, ready to receive the gift of death.
I smile, No! it smiles, the demon in me. An evil grin plastered across my face, as I see it coming, in the last iota of time left.
