Gbammm !!! No one mentioned tribalism then, I just don't understand how Nairaland Igbos think. It is very wrapped.

How can 43 spare part shop closure = Igbo victimization in Lagos. I am still waiting for an answer for these semi-illiterates like Bliss4lye and co. I am waiting.

When Tinubu destoryed people's shops in central mosque EKO mainly yorubas and Hausa, I did not hear yorubas screaming like this. So why Igbos

You are not thinking straight if you think a handful of all ibo spare part traders, contributing only marginal revenue to the government purse means a thing if they leave! I DARE YOU TO LEAVE NOW...PLEASE!! If all people who think like you leave and NEVER come back, imagine the space that creates for law abiding sane Nigerians to conduct business in Lagos! No mechanic will be travelling to you because you manufacture the parts? Seriously!? Well, for the first time, foreign manufacturers of car parts might actually be taking us more serious and allow their things to be shipped in, bought over the internet, etc because they will be big sales and service operations that will not just commit a big scam and run away to under the rock the sprang from. Can you just go and build your house and leave another man's house alone??[/uote]my God see wetin Jealousy dey cause

Considering that the laws relating to registration have been in place for close to 30 years, it is clear that those who characterise the actions of the LASG solely as an assault on sectional interests are being rather disingenuous here.

Someone suggested that maintaining a sliding scale of annual registration fees, which reflects both the operational and revenue footprint of a dealer's establishment, is a much fairer system. This to me reflects sound reasoning.

Truth be told, I consider the LASG system of taxes/levies duplicitous and punitive in some areas. But then, I also recognise the reform needed is unlikely to garner any momentum as long as discussions on the subject remain largely self-serving.

This is Exactly the meaning of standing on its own
By raising money from taxes. I know it might be a new culture to you but that is how Lagos will survive ON TAXES
What do you mean by criminal taxation please talk sense. If you don't agree with the tax go to court. Hotel operators in Lagos did and won so there is nothing like "criminal" about taxes.

This law is almost 30 years old and is not Fashola's creation. Enforcement might have been weak in the past but the number of players has grown and Lagos has grown.

Fashola is targetting all of you - igbos, hausas and yorubas, you still havent understood that this is about reducing the masses to penury irrespective of tribe, while the 1% ie Fashola's business associates, foreign investors , friends and relatives continue to make millions from your suffering.

Who do you think he's building all those luxury apartment blocks for, the masses? how about the light railway - you think he gives a damn about the average poor lagosian?

The tribalism that we are talking about is the one being shown by yorubas on this thread who are rejoicing because Fashola's current victims are igbos, the thing he is already victimising yorubas with his punitive economic policies - remember the lekki toll gate episode, remember the way the people of makoko were bull dozed out of their slums, remember the okada riders - Fashola is victimising all of you but your tribalism prevents you from seeing the wood from the trees.

What annoys me is us talking about ACN excesses rather than some people trying to paint tribalism going on in Lagos.

have you ever heard of the phrase - no taxation without representation?

do lagos tax payers benefit from the punitive taxes imposed on them by fashola and his cronies? if so, kindly enlighten me on what he is currently doing with the revenue because the last time i checked lagos was still one big giant slum

also export processing zones only benefit giant multinational corporations who can import goods from their countries of operation use the cheap labour in the free trade zone to manufacture and configure them and then re export them without being burdened by tarrifs (which will not apply since the goods are not sold in the country where the free zone is located

These corporations also enjoy massive tax breaks and are able to monopolise domestic markets causing the collapse of local businessess - in other words a free trade zone will enrich the walmarts of this world and send many nigerian businesses into bankruptcy - sounds good doesnt it?

This is the one thing Fashola has conveniently failed to explain to them, these so called foreign investors are only going to use majority of them as sweat shop workers in their factories - go and ask the people of haiti how it feels like to earn 5c an hour to make a pair of trainers that are sold in the US for $150 a pair.

Mugun! Didn't you read the original post? Who is talking about taxes here. These unfortunate fellows have been asked to pay 50k for yearly registration. This is asides tax, tenement rate, local govt levies, house rent, owo omo onile, area boys settlement etc. Doctors, nurses, teachers, every trader in lagos should also be paying 50k annual registration fees to the state govt if you think it is a good logic. Fasola is just a bloody tyrant hell bent on driving out the poor, even the middle class out of lagos. He is not in anyway fit to be Nigeria's president.

Well poor people should NOT be selling spare parts. That is definitely not for poor people in Lagos. We need serious companies that can offer the safety and quality guarantees required by law. There are other businesses in Lagos for poor people, selling spare parts is NOT one of them.

My observation is that our people are no longer welcomed at Lagos. Whether the city was created by the Colonial masters or not, it has an original tribe owners, no one drags the thing that does not belong to him/her. The earlier we the Igbos put these things in our mind the better for us.We have some many fertile lands for business prosperity. There are many ways to send out the unwanted guest. This is one of them. I am Sorry once again.Pardon me.

ok let do the maths and put this re.tard.s to shame.
50k divided into 12months is equal to 4170 a month(approx). Assuming 20 working days a month. 4170 divided by 20 is equal to 210. The question i pose to you s.hitheads is this? Is 210 not less than what 1 man spends on beer everyday? This spare part dealer make well over 5k everyday but to give back paltry 210 naira na tribalism dem go dey yarn. Nonsense. If you cant pay, kindly close shop. Thank you in anticipation of your co-operation.

It is the responsibility of Nigeria to provide job for its people not Lagos. The Failure of the FG and other states means everyone troops down to Lagos. Were those people in the slums of Makoko from the east? How come Fashola could not rehouse them, many of them had been living in that area for generations.

Why are you so keen to focus on my state of origin - i am not a tribalist like you as i see myself as a nigerian citizen free to live anywhere in nigeria that i choose, do you see americans from different states being told to go back to their states of origin if they cant find jobs in one state?

All businesses started out on a small scale and built up - in civilised societies small businesses are incentivised and benefit from govt loans and subsidies, in nigeria they are run out of town. Would you prefer a foreign multinational to come to nigeria use lagosians as cheap sweat shop workers and remit all their profits back to europe and america - is that your idea of progress?

it is competitive and very well thought out.It applies in banking even in the importation of cement a monopoly which the likes of Ibeto and Dangote enjoyed so nothing new there. Can you just open a shop and start selling dynamite in a civilized country? That was the case in Nigeria until last year. But we have had laws against this for decades. The law we are talking about here was enacted in 1985 now the country has changed. The security situation has changed and it must be enforced so please quit whining. There is such a thing as restricted or specialized goods. No be everything be "market". Spare parts traders must be registered and show that they have the financial capacity to fulfil their legal duties with regard to warranty and safety guarantees

How is spare parts a good example? Do they manufacture spare parts? They ONLY SELL IT, so how is it a safety and consumer right issue? You talk about warranties, how many spare parts here in the U.S. offers warranty from the seller? So I go into Advanced Auto Parts to go buy wiper blades (last week), and I'm expecting warranty from the Advanced Auto Parts rather than the manufacturer of the blade, like seriously, is that your reasoning?

Dude really? If someone stocks fake auto parts that causes accidents, then it is a safety issue. It is not very different from a pharmacist selling fake drugs.
