macof: so God works for christ now?

Exactly, He did the work of the Father, and the Father (the Almighty God) glorified him.

John 10:30 I and my Father are one.

God worked for him: the prophecy of many years came to pass and confirmed this about him.

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

God has continued to work the miracles by His Spirit at the name of Jesus. Halleluyah!

Today's Topic: A call for integrity. It is through Jesus that Christians can live a life of integrity. In order to live this kind of life Christians are called to observe and live by the followings: Live in Moral Purity; Increase in Christian Love and Practice a Good Work Ethics. We are taught to realize the necessity of and pursue a life of integrity, and to achieve this we shouldn't be casual in faith. If we want God to care deeply about condition of our lives we should pursue a life of integrity. God has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness - 1 Thessalonians 4:7. Therefore Christians should abstain from behaviors that corrupt good manners.

As we continue living for Jesus we must live differently from those who do not know God. Christians must live in moral purity, that is, they must avoid sexual immorality. Apostle Paul warns Christians against sexual sin. Sexuality is designed and ordained by God to be practiced between married couples; once it is outside this it is a sin. Immoral relationship cannot coexist with the relationship with God. He is holy and wants people serving Him to reject immorality by keeping their hearts, minds and bodies pure before Him.

Just as light and darkness cannot coexist, immoral sins such as premarital sex, adultery, pornography and other sexual sins shouldn't have place in the lives of believers. Christians need strong desire for sanctification so that God can work in their lives and change them from inside out. Holy Spirit will never force himself on anyone; He works for people that invite and allow him.

Living a holy life entails fear of God - keeping in mind that He will judge all. There are two types of fear: unhealthy fear and godly fear. Unhealthy fear imprisons its victims but godly fear brings freedom to experience God's best for our lives. Fearing God does not mean living in terror of Him; it means entering into a relationship with Him. And it is by this that we receive his undeserved favor, grace and forgiveness. As we enjoy all these, we must not take God for granted. If it seems that temptation wants to come we must call on Holy Spirit to guide and help us so that we do not fall. Holy living is God's idea we must embrace.

We must obey Christ's call to love and increase in Christian love. Learning and sharing Christ's message is the basis for demonstrating brotherly love and living for God. At times when you do not feel like loving a particular person, what should come to your mind is biblical love: the kind of love that reaches out to all even the enemies. God loves you and He wants you to love others. Loving one another through tough times helps build the bonds that make believers stay together and become more united.

Christians are expected to practice good work ethics. To do this they must be responsible and respectable. Our relationship with God should extend to all aspects of our daily lives in terms of how we take care of our families, interact with our neighbors and manage our businesses (1 Thessalonians 4:11). Integrity aims that we are faithful in all we do. Christians are encouraged to interact with unbelievers in their places of work and neighborhoods with integrity.

With honesty and good characters Christians could win hearts of some people for God, and with the help of Holy Spirit, lives are transformed and characters properly shaped. May God help us. Lesson text: 1 Thessalonians 4: 1-12.

Today's Topic: Anticipate Christ's Coming. This lesson encourages Christians to live in anticipation of second coming Jesus. His return is real and could happen at any time; this tells us the need to live in a state of preparedness. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 The Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. This lesson examines what the Bible tells us about strange lifestyle, natural disasters and the call to Christians to be alert and remain hopeful in God. The followings come up for discussion: nature of Christ's coming, suddenness of Christ's coming, and Christian need to prepare for Christ's coming,

Christ's coming provides us with the assurance of resurrection and the promise of rapture. The secret of resurrection was made known to the world when Jesus died and rose again the third day, likewise God will bring all that believe in Christ to him at resurrection. Concerning them which are asleep, we are not to sorrow as people without hope of eternal life. Some people are hopeless of life after death but Christians believe in glorious resurrection to spend eternity in God's kingdom with Jesus. Our hope of resurrection is linked to Christ's redemptive work.

At Christ's return the bodies of those who died in him will be resurrected - transfiguration from death and grave to immortality (2 Corinthians 5:4-9; 1 Corinthians 15:37-54). when Christ returns, he will take all his followers - both living and dead out of this world to live with him unto eternity through a process defined as rapture - "caught up"(1 Thessalonians 4:15-17). This great event will be characterized by Lord's shout, the voice of archangel, and the sounding of trumpet. At the blast of trumpet, the dead in Christ will rise first, then Christians who are alive on earth will be caught up with them to meet with Christ and be with him to eternity.

Christ's coming will be sudden and many will be caught unawares. Christ described his return that the day and hour is known by God only (Matthew 24:36), also Paul describes that it would be sudden and unexpected (1 Thessalonians 5:1-2), and happen in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.

Christ return will usher in a time of judgment and destruction. Before this happens humanity will be highly advanced in accomplishments and overtaken by pride, even to a state that many will forget about God. Thereafter, great tribulation will come because the Church will be removed from the world and an evil figure known as Antichrist will rise to rule the world. He would demand that all remaining people should receive a mark and worship him, without this they will not be able to transact any business. It would be time of brutality and natural disaster.

To escape the tribulation and impending judgment Christians are called to remain hopeful and be alert as they prepare for Christ's coming. They must keep his coming in mind by living a life that is pure and devoted to God. Many people today are living in open rebellion with God. They reject righteousness and mock the message of the cross of Jesus, also they embrace behaviors that lead to destruction. This lesson comes as an eye opener and warning to the Church to keep watching and long for Christ's return.

Heaven is real for God's people, hell is also real for Satan, the fallen angels, and people separated from God (Matthew 25:4). God doesn't want anyone to perish, He wants the gospel of Christ to be preached to all people so that many will hear and have chance to respond positively to God's offer for salvation. He wants all to be saved but He doesn't force anyone to accept the offer ( 2 Peter 3:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:10). May God help us. Lesson texts: 1 Thessalonians 4:13 thru 5:11.

Today's Topic: The coming judgement. It will be unpleasant to be told that you will face judgement and it is not likely that you will be justified and be free from condemnation and punishment because you could not fulfill certain conditions. The world will be judged because people have failed to obey God's command. Everyone that is alive should keep it in mind that one day he or she will stand before the judgement throne of God, and failure in the standards He wants will result in condemnation and punishment. Bible says, Hebrews 9:27 It is appointed unto all men once to die, but after this judgement. This lesson examines striking differences between God's judgement of the righteous and on the wicked. This lesson reveals that: the righteous shall be counted worthy; the disobedient shall be punished, and the glory of Christ shall be revealed.

The righteous shall be counted worthy. A righteous person is someone that is faithful and remain committed to doing God's will. Faithfulness in the standards of God involves steadiness, consistency and ability to face challenges of life without compromising faith. There will always be trials against faith but Christians are expected to persevere, love and dwell in hope. Definitely believers will face persecution but by being faithful they will receive commendation in the end.

God is the righteous judge. All people that remain faithful through trials shall be counted worthy for His salvation and kingdom. Believer's ability to live in new relationship with Christ through suffering and persecution will reveal righteousness of God's Judgement. Opposition to Christ likeness of believers is opposition to Christ, and if the opposition continues it will suffer the consequences of God's righteous judgement.

All disobedience to God shall be punished. God will one day judge all unrepentant evildoers, no matter how successful they might be. The Bible reveals that all injustice will one day be corrected by the Lord. All people persecuting the righteous will face God's judgement. The day of vindication for God's people is coming when the righteous will triumph and sin completely destroyed.

God will judge and punish all those who do not know and obey Him. Obedience to God means obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Christ' gospel reveals truth of God, the need to seek Him and benefits of doing His will. Separation from God will bring eternal punishment.

Christ's glory will be revealed at his coming and this will put the end to believers' tribulation. At Christ's coming the Lord's enemies which is the false prophet and all his armies will suffer God's wrath. Christ's glory will be revealed and all children of God - people who believe in Christ will receive the promise of being like him because they shall see him 1 John 3:1-2.

If you want to see God, be like Him and live eternally in His kingdom, surrender yourself to God's purposes for our lives and stay consistently in faith - always make sure that the challenges of the present do not distract you from focusing on spending eternity in God's kingdom. May God help us. Lesson texts: 2 Thessalonians 1:1-12
Re: Sunday School Lessons: What Do You Gain To Share With Others? by Rexyl(m): 7:49pm On Dec 08, 2013
Today's Topic: Concerning Christ's second Coming. Christians are to live in assurance of second coming of Christ. Nobody knows the hour but we are to prepare at all times. He will come at the hour nobody thinks of. While the unbelievers doubt his return some Christians are living in fear and apathy. In preparation for his second coming this lesson reminds believers the hope and assurance of his return. This lesson examines why you should not be troubled; what to know to help you stand for Jesus so that you will not be deceived by false prophets and twisted doctrines, and the need to stay alert so that you are not influenced by delusion.

Believers are not to be troubled by prophesies and messages of false teachers. Definitely false teachings will be preached to confuse and weaken people against the truth of the gospel. When the genuine message of the scripture is being misinterpreted believers should know immediately that they are being influenced by false teaching.

Time of Christ’s return is unknown but not unexpected. Jesus gave lots of descriptions as regards end-time events. Matthew 24. We are not to be surprised when some people relate the events and use it to predict specific time of Christ return or end of the world. Christians shouldn’t be confused; all human predictions giving the exact time are fake. We have nothing to fear because we know and have the truth of the scripture. Though we do not know the time, his return should not take us by surprise. Events are already unfolding the call is get prepared.

Do not be deceived the man of lawlessness – the Antichrist will be revealed. Apostle Paul (2 Thessalonians 2:3) reminds us of two events: the falling away also known as general rejection of the gospel, and revelation of the man of sin that will revolt against the divine authority. The Antichrist is already in the world but he is yet to be revealed. He is in continual spiritual rebellion to ensure spiritual darkness and make life difficult for believers. This reminds us that the end is near.

The Antichrist has not been revealed because he is being restrained by Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is present on earth because the Church is still present. When the Church is raptured and the spiritual influence taken away, lawlessness will be the order of the day, the Antichrist will appear to rule the world. He will usurp God’s authority by demanding to be worshiped. His agents are already at work, twisting the scriptures, deceiving people and some are working miracles in a way that is not in line with the gospel of Christ.

The warning is be alert. Rejection of the truth is tragic. When people would not accept the truth, God will turn them to pursue their own lusts – to pursue things that are not worthy – things of no eternal value (Romans 1:24 – 28). God honors choices people make, even if it will lead to destruction. God is calling you to choose to follow him instead of being enslaved by lies of Satan. He is calling you to walk with and rely on him.

Walking with God does not mean absence of difficult times. By being patient and thru spiritual means Christians will overcome. Our watch word is “watch and pray”. Struggling of living for God cannot compare with the glory of seeing Him face to face and being with Him. May God help us. Lesson text: Matthew 24:24, 36, 42, 44; Luke 21:34-36; Thessalonians 2:1-12.

Today's topic: Living confident in Christ. We are confidently living for Christ because we have joy and hope and receive God's promise of victorious Christian living. Despite all evils God's word is settled and His promise is certain. His word is our strength against any challenge that might come, and by divine empowerment we shall overcome all problems. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 The Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil. This lesson wants us to examine the followings: We are choose and loved by God; consolation and hope by grace and knowing that we are established and kept by Christ.

Christians are chosen and loved by God. This is because we believe in the Gospel and allow God's Spirit to work through us. Whether you shall be chosen and loved by God or not depends on your consent with His call. Christ's gospel is God's free call to which all people have free will to answer or ignore.

Christians should learn and know that they are loved and chosen by God and this should build confidence of living for Him. Hard times will come as trials but we are to know that God has promised not to forget us. His ultimate goal for chosen us is to have His salvation. Likewise in the Christian race the ultimate price is salvation and the means of pursuing it is through continual process of sanctification by His Spirit and steadfast believe in the truth.

1 Peter 2: 9-10 established that God has chosen us for a glorious cause. As 'a chosen generation' we are brought to the Church. As 'a royal priesthood' we have dignity of the Church. As 'a peculiar People' we are purchased by God as His own possession. Therefore we are confident of spiritual transformation and God's mercy for being part of His people.

Christian consolation and hope of living victorious Christian life are as a result grace of gospel we have received. When this life present challenges and the future seems to be uncertain we should stand fast for God. He promises to strengthen us and make us overcome if we continue in faith (Romans 8:35-39).

We are established and kept by Christ. Because many people are opposed to God's work, the ministry of gospel will involve struggling with and overcoming challenges. All we need is relying on God and praying for deliverance and salvation of our enemies. He is greater than those opposing His gospel. If we are steadfast and enduring in faith He is ready to to protect us from evils - the physical injury inflicted by man and the spiritual injuries inflicted by Satan. May God help us. Lesson texts: 2 Thessalonians 2:thru 3:5; 1 Peter 2:9-10
Re: Sunday School Lessons: What Do You Gain To Share With Others? by Rexyl(m): 6:52pm On Dec 22, 2013
Today's topic: The Incarnation (Christmas). God revealed Himself through Jesus. Christ is the God's only begotten son He sent to the world by His word. Jesus was with God and it was by him and for him everything was created. His coming to the world did not just happen, there were prophesies concerning his coming. The Bible makes us understand Christ as: the eternal word, the true light and the word of God made flesh to dwell with us. John 1:14, the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.

Christ - the Eternal Word - the word that was with God and which was God and by the word He created all things. Throughout Old Testament God revealed His will through His prophets, but through incarnation of His son He revealed greater things about Himself to the world. We are now provided with two expressions of God: His written word and the spoken word - Jesus. Both are in perfect agreement, Jesus has always existed and will exist forever with God, and it is through him people can have everlasting life.

Light was revealed through the creative power of the word. When light comes it makes darkness disappear. People need the light of the word to put an end to walking in the darkness of the sinful world. The Bible reveals that the entrance of God's word gives light. All people living without the word of God are living in the darkness, Psalm 119:105, 130 John 3: 19-21, Hebrews 4:12. John 1:5 says darkness could not comprehend the light - cannot overpower the light. Christ is the light unto salvation. Therefore we all need him to prevail in victory over the darkness of evil and sin.

Christ is the true light. John the Baptist declared this. He was the one sent by God to call people to repentance and prepare their hearts for the truth and salvation coming through Christ. In order to come to the light people should recognize the Creator and be born of the Spirit. Holy Spirit initiates the spiritual birth and makes it possible for a believer to be adopted as a child of God. Because we believe in Jesus we are given the power to be sons of God, John 1:12; Romans 8:14.

The word was made Flesh, and dwelt among us. He did this in order to identify himself with our strengths and weaknesses so we could be redeemed (2 Corinthians 5:21). Christ was fully a man - he experienced what humans experienced; he was fully God - He lived a sinless life and throughout, his deeds were pleasing to God (Hebrews 2;14-18). Christ's coming was the source of blessings -peace and abundance of joy to the world.

Though people are separated from God by sin, they are brought back to Him through faith in Christ. Moses was sent to bring message of law but Jesus brought grace and truth. The law aims to bring us to God's holiness but it can’t make us attain God's righteous standards needed for His holiness. The only way to this is by receiving the grace and truth of the finished work of Christ on the cross. Christmas reminds us of the love of God for sending Jesus into the world as our savior and for us to be made Children of God. May God help us. Lesson text John 1:1-18.

Today’s topic: Commanded to live wisely . This lesson wants us to examine ourselves from time to time as Christians and make sure that our attitudes and actions are not wrong as we relate with others. Also the lesson aims that we live to please God, and apply godly wisdom in our commitment to others. People are watching our actions and utterances that is why we need godly wisdom in dealing with situations. Ephesians 5:17 Be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. We are to examine the followings as requirements for living wisely: Avoid disorderly and divisive people, fulfill your responsibilities and discipline others lovingly.

Paul commanded believers to avoid disorderly and divisive people – those who are failing in their responsibilities and creating problems - idle people/busybodies, those who are not ready to work but exploiting and taking advantage of hard working, compassionate and generosity of others. People who are able to work and provide for their needs but they chose not to do so. The intention here is to correct disorderly people, it is not to punish and abandon them. Remember God’s command to love others; help the poor and provide for those in need, Romans 12:13; 1 Timothy 5:16 and 1 John 3:16.

We must be a Christlike role model, a responsible and good example for others to follow. This is part of our calling and in order to live it we must ensure that our actions match our words, and our walk matches our talk. Believers are being called to fulfill responsibilities and not be a burden. This requires working hard to get all that is needed. Believers should be encouraged to continue doing what is right and focus on pleasing God always.

Christians are to discipline lovingly – treat others as brothers and sisters, not as enemies. Whenever matters call for correcting those who have gone astray, we must reconcile with love, by doing everything possible to restore erring believers and bring peace to the Church. As people relate with one another, there is tendency for disagreement to arise and lead to confrontation.

God’s plan for confrontation wants us to avoid retaliation and keeping silent on issues. Retaliation leads to assaults and dangers of getting issues out of control while avoiding the issue will make tension build up without resolution. It also worsens the problem. Matthew 18:15-17 describe what Jesus taught us: issues should be confronted in a manner that should heal hurts and strengthen the Church. When there is conflict, people should talk one - on – one, and when apology is tendered sincere forgiveness must be done. Behaviors should be dealt with lovingly to promote restoration. if the offending believer refuses all the peaceful means then he should be regarded as one that has backslid. May God help us. Lesson text: 2 Thessalonians 3:6-18; Matthew 18:15-17

Today's topic: Help with the Life's Direction. We should listen to God and allow Him to direct our paths. The Bible teaches that God will direct our paths , but we don't often get step-by-step directions. God has plan for everyone of us but our ability to live according to it depends on choices we are making. Life becomes easier and more convenient if a believer follows God's plan and allows His Spirit to direct him in all his ways. God has plan for us and He is committed to fulfilling His will for our lives. Proverbs 3: 5,6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths. This lesson wants us to examine the followings: God has a plan, discover God's plan, and live according to God's plan.

God has a plan for us and the plan begins prior to birth Psalm 135: 15 &16. Some people take this truth to an extreme, which makes them believe that their days are already ordained and whatever they can achieve is predetermined, and they stop taking responsibility for their actions and choices. God has plan for us but He wants us to discover it. When God calls a person for His purpose He equips him. He Chose Jeremiah before he was born as His prophet and when it was the time to do the work He called and equipped him.

Just like Jeremiah did (Jeremiah 1:6) we can easily state excuses which are a cover for our fear and unwillingness to surrender ourselves to God's plan. God wants us to discover what He wants us to do with our skills and abilities, and the moment we are on course He will equip us.

We are to discover God's plan and develop discipline by which we can live for Him. Proverbs 3:3-8 provides the basics for doing this: Christians should show mercy/love and be truthful. Also, they must trust in God and accept the fact that His ways are better than the ways of man. Placing the ways of man against the ways of God results in a clash between human wisdom and godly wisdom. It is by godly wisdom that Christians have discovered that 90% with God goes farther than 100% of man.

While godly wisdom encourages us to treat others the ways we want to be treated, human wisdom calls for a reaction in similar ways others have done to us. Christians should develop humility and godly fear. We should not allow pride to come in to override the grace God has deposited in us. Pride leads to foolish and sinful choices, but with the fear of God you will make choices that honor Him, and which will contribute to righteous living and well-being.

The Bible encourages us to lay the foundation of good Christian characters which will help us in taking steps for discovering God's plan for our lives.(Romans 12:1-2; James 3:13-18). It is Christ-centered life that leads to greater understanding of God's plan for our lives because it provides ways God wants us to respond to situations in life.

God wants us to live a Christ-centered life if really we are to live according to His plan. Apostle Paul stated that life was about serving Christ and knowing him better so that when death came he would be with him (Philippians 1:20-21). He reveals that living to God's plan is a choice which may mean giving up certain important things for one to follow God's plan and have deeper relationship with Him for greater gains (Philippians 3:7-14). Our lives should bring glory to Christ and draw us closer to him for the greater gains. May God help. Rexyl: Today's topic: Help with the Life's Direction.

Last week lesson

Treasuring the Truth in Turbulent times. This lesson is about knowing and keeping the truth according to the scripture. It discusses the knowledge of God's truth we should be armed with as Christians. What is the truth? The Roman Governor - Pilate asked Jesus before he was released to be crucified. But Jesus had earlier declared that he was the truth (John 18:37&38). Also, Jesus had stated convincingly that he is the truth. He said, "I am the way, the truth and the life" (John 14:6). 1 Timothy 4:16 - Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine: continue in them: for in doing this thou shall both save thyself, and them that hear thee. We have the followings for discussion: Reject False Teaching, Perpetuate the Truth and Set a good example.

Reject False Teachings: False teachings aim to entangle erring believers in the snare of doctrinal error in order to make them abandon the truth of the gospel so that they would follow lies that pervert faith and lead people astray. Some people are walking away from the truth because their hearts are hardened and can no longer keep their relationships with God. They have rejected God's correction and could no longer respond to His call for obedience. Continuing in this way makes it difficult to hear from God and enjoy the leading of His Spirit. When people refused to be led by God's truth they will be free for lies and manipulations of Satan.

False teachers and false teachings will definitely arise but what matters is how we respond as Christians. Knowing what to do has to do with how closer to God ( thru obedience, prayer, Bible study and fellowship with other believers) we are. Some false teachers are distorting the gospel thus making people to follow rules not prescribed by Jesus and the Apostles (1 Timothy 4: 3-5). Such rules forbids marrying and eating certain foods. Such restrictions are based on their beliefs that all physical matters are inherently evil. Those restrictions are against the scriptures and do not draw us closer to God (1 Corinthians 7:28; 8:8; Colossians 2: 20-23). Salvation is made available by God's grace through obedience to God command. There is striking difference between obedience to God and following list of human regulations. Human regulations could be burdensome but obedience to God' commands leads to blessings. False teachings leads to bondage but grace gives the freedom to live for God and experience His best for our lives.

Perpetuate the Truth: We should grow in godliness in order to be Christians that can promote sound doctrine (1 Timothy 4: 6-8 ). As recipients of God's grace we have the responsibility to share the truth that has brought us to Christ's saving knowledge. Paul encouraged Timothy to remain focused in the faith and train himself in godly living. The training is compared to physical exercise that promotes fitness of an athlete for success in a race. Likewise the spiritual exercise promotes eternal values for us to be in Christ and preserve our souls for eternal glory. Godliness is achieved as we strive to live for God and serve Him with all our hearts. We must invite Holy Spirit to live in us and prepare us for eternal values through sanctification.

We are commanded to teach the gospel. Just as Paul was commissioned and inspired to teach God message we are to do what the Bible wants for the world: teach and preach God's will (Timothy 4:9-11). The Bible is not based on myths or fantasies. It is reliable, trustworthy and worthy of attention of all. It is God's word. It makes connection with God possible and provides the way to eternity. It is about Christ's death and resurrection which makes salvation available to mankind.

Set a Good Example: Paul spoke of how to be a good example of the believers ((1 Timothy 4:12), good Christian must be a man of compassion and integrity who is effective in the ministry. He warned against the pitfalls of seeking to please man (esp by delivering the good will messages for popularity) rather than God in the ministry. Christians are encouraged to respond in good faith to Criticisms. We should check the various ways we are guilty of allegations and open our lives to God for corrections in all areas we are not like Christ instead of responding just anyhow.

Christians are to persevere in holiness and follow Paul's encouragement to Timothy (Timothy 4: 13-16). We are encouraged to be devoted to reading and preaching, and guard the gospel against all attempts to deny, change or pervert it. Paul also instructed Timothy to keep fellowship with God and reminded him not to be content to live in the past. Christians need a fresh touch of God's anointing and renewal of strength. We can receive this when we set time apart to hear from God, meditate in His word daily and allow Him to renew us from inside out. May God help us. Lesson text: 1 Timothy 4:1-16.

Today's topic: Requirements for Godly leaders. Being in the position of authority and directing the affairs of others requires competence specified by certain qualifications which are based on relevant training, experience and temperament. God has for years sought for people that will fill positions in His ministry. He is seeking for people to fill openings in His kingdom. As such He provides the requirements for those who are ready to occupy leadership positions and be entrusted with responsibilities. Such requirements are specified in the scriptures. 1 Corinthians 4:2 - It is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. We have the followings for discussion: Standards for Pastoral Leaders, Standards for Lay leader and Standards for Affirming Leaders.

Standards for Pastoral Leaders: Christians are called to minister and share the gospel, but not all are called to Church leadership, and not all are qualified for the positions. Leading and serving people of God is a privilege and a matter of serious commitment and great responsibility which should be tested and scrutinised according to biblical standards. A leader is accountable to God and others. Competence based on talent, charisma, education, communication skill among others are not adequate for a leadership role in the Church, leaders' lives should also agree with the guidelines established in the scriptures.

Apostle Paul mentioned several qualifications for a minister in the Church. These include being righteous, caring, self-controlled, proven leaders and being reputable (1 Timothy 3: 2-7). A righteous minister is the one who should be blameless and without reproach - a leader that must be faithful and remain committed in marriage, that must be what he speaks. A caring leader must have the time to attend to the needs of others, love and give them comfort. A self-controlled leader should be the one that refrains from taking to alcohol, avoid greed and covetousness, eschew violence and rage. A proven leader is the one that has a track of good record. He that is matured and capable. A minister must be reputable, he must be acceptable in all good manners - he that cannot fall to greed, sexual immorality or gross doctrinal error. A leader that will not bring shame on the Church.

Standards for a Lay Leader: Pastors are not the only leaders from whom rigorous standards are expected, deacons and others serving and meeting both physical and spiritual needs of others are saddled with serious responsibilities. All Christians that realize the needs to teach, preach, evangelize and lead others to God must meet His requirements. Church leaders requires the Holy Spirit for direction and enablement to understand, obey and follow the scriptures.

Lay leaders are expected to be Role Models of a good steward and servant. They must be respectable, honest, sincere, people of integrity, who do not play with sin. People who are loving and Christlike, striving for good name and doing all that should be done to earn respect of others. They must be good examples of what Christians should be - very good examples for others to learn from, emulate and follow. Sometimes they can be found serving quietly and diligently in the Church without much notice on them.

Standards for Affirming Leaders: Leaders are to be affirmed by good character and conduct. High standards must be placed on selection of leaders in the Church. Paul insisted that leaders are to be holy, just, sober and temperate (Titus 1:5-8 ) They are representatives of God, entrusted to do His work. God wants his people to be holy and just. As citizens of God's kingdom and children adopted to His family Christians are to reflect God's value, not culture or tradition of people. We must copy and act according to God's standards and characters. Our lives must be suitable for Holy Spirit to live in us.

Leaders must be true to the Word of God. They must be the people of the Word (Titus 1:9). They must zealously defend the gospel against forces seeking to dismiss, misuse, distort and pervert it. The gospel must be taught according to the scriptures. It must not be compromised or altered in any form. Leaders must preserve God's word. God's Word encourages and leads believers unto righteousness. Also, God's Word serves as warning against disobedience to His commands and following the unrighteous deception of Satan. May God help us. Lesson text: Act 6: 1-6; 1 Timothy 3: 1-16; Titus 1:1-16

Today's topic: Jesus, God Incarnate. Only Jesus Christ has clearly shown the world how to establish the relationship that leads to salvation with His Father, the Almighty God. His life and message are the source of the grace and truth about God. He is divine. He is the one that spoke and performed miracles with authority of the one that has been with and come from God. God revealed Himself to people in Jesus Christ. God has brought himself down to the earth for intimacy with people in the form of flesh through Jesus. John 1:14 - The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth. We have the followings for discussion: The Word made flesh, God the Father Revealed, Unity of the Father and Son.

The Word Made Flesh: The beginning of Jesus wasn't from the manger or at first Christmas. Apostle John took the world to Christ's beginning. That Christ has ever existed with the Father before the creation. He gave the Holy Spirit inspired picture of the beginning of Jesus (John 1:1-5). The biblical reference of 'in the beginning' referred to the beginning of the universe which means Christ himself has no beginning. He existed with God at the creation in perfect unity, thus he was fully God. The Gospel of John puts an end to likely controversies or false ideas about Jesus. The gospel shows Christ's clear and direct unity with God: In him is life and light. Walking with Jesus means walking in God's light with the assurance of securing one's life. The light of gospel marks the difference between good and evil, the light and the darkness.

Jesus came to the world as God in flesh but many did not recognise him. But as many as possible that could recognise him and put their faith in him are given the power to be Children of God (John 1:10-14). Being a child of God is as result of believer's faith-filled acceptance of Jesus. Likewise believer's access to God was established by Christ. He taught the world the fullness of grace and truth in him as in God. The grace to overcome evil and sin, redeem people from sinful influences and restore them back to God is in him.

God the Father Revealed: Seeing God is made possible by Jesus (John 1: 18; 12:44&45). Jesus stated it very clearly that anyone that believes on him, did not believe on him, but on the Father that sent him. And anyone that sees him sees God that sent him. With this Jesus has described the full revelation of God in both physical and spiritual realities. Those who know Jesus will know exactly what God is like.

Knowing Christ is knowing God. Jesus cleared all doubts in people's minds when he stated, 'I am the way, the truth and the life, and that no one can come to God, but by him (John 14:5-11). Also reading further, we are made to understand that seeing Jesus means seeing God. All these point to the reality that Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in him. He acted in union with the Father and made his mission known to the world, that is bringing all people into a relationship with God.

Unity of Father and Son: The unity is to fulfil God's plan of salvation of our souls from eternal destruction and to get us to where God is by following the the gospel (John 17:1-8 ). Jesus prayed earnestly for us for the realization of God's will for our lives. God wants us to come to a loving relationship with him, He wants us to come to and enjoy His glory right away in as much as we appreciate and glorify Christ in Him. He wants us to hold unto His promise of resurrection and eternal life as revealed by Christ.

Jesus prayed for the glorious unity of all believers just as he and the Father are ONE (John 17: 21-25). Before his crucifixion he looked ahead of the day when the Church will enjoy complete fellowship with him and the Father and see their full glory. Really we have been seeing God's glory through Christ but the full revelation will come only in eternity. This is only possible through our union with Jesus. May God help us. many people today think their eyes are widely open to see far beyond the truth and minds are loaded with enough information to begin to look down on the mighty hands involved in the creation, and in that state of mind they have forgotten that there is much to life after physical death here on earth. the truth and saving grace of God contained in the gospel we are preaching has continued to show the light thru the darkness of the world. We already have the light and darkness can never comprehend it. We just have to continue spreading God‘s message of truth, peace and salvation. It is left to individuals to choose between life and death.
