The President did the sensible thing to leave the democratically elected structure of Government in the states intact

not sure if the President has the power to single-handedly remove Governors

forget all those nonesense OBJ used to do!

Hon. Kontigi:
state of emergency is another name for chop-chop. All the statutory allocation to the three states from the federation Account will just vamoose. OBJ declared state of emergency in plateau and in effect re-introduced military rule there for almost a year. At the end of the state of emergency plateau state witnessed even more violence. The same thing will likely happen in these three state because boko haram leadership have relocated to lawless chad.

So, what do you suggest as an alternative?

While this is good news on the surface, I fear it will force the BH animals to move to other areas. This will in turn trigger wider SOEs and gradually, the entire country may be turned into a theatre of urban warfare.

Being Yoruba myself, many here will feel this is opposition noise but God knows I wish the success and peace of Nigeria no matter who leads. I would have suggested he did the same thing but without declaring SOE i.e. move as much power as you feel is needed into those places and make those evil haramists feel what federal power can be like without making it official and thus forcing them (as is the case now) to go back to the drawing tables (we all know they DARE NOT face the full weight of the Army). If they now start moving into other states, he will be forced to play their game and follow them around, declaring states of emergency all over till people start mocking him in that regard.

People hate OBJ (we SW most of all) but he understood many of these things more - I dont blame GEJ anyway, cos he wasn't trained in such. However his defense advisers should be tied to drums and whipped cos this allows BH dictate the theatre of war as they desire

mu2sa2: GEJ should also declare State of emergency against pipeline vandalism, armed robbery, poverty, unemployment and corruption.

Your kind is difficult to please. At least accept that GEJ has for once made the right decision. Haba.

berem: DOES THIS IMPLIES THAT AMNESTY IS NO LONGER RELEVANT?

Wonder where that idea crept from.

Where has amnesty actually gotten us?

Billion of naira still get wasted on militants .

And you wano evolve it d more to include these shyts?

Bsides, they aint ready ƒoя any round table talks.

Best to use the old but sure method: smoke and flush them out.

I don't wish ƒoя arrests. Straight flush out. Kill them. Maim dεм .

Waste dεм . Since they have no value ƒoя lives, our prisons are therefore too expensive ƒoя them.

Wipe them out!

Now, those greedy govs should make way for some young colonels to cut a faction of the cake. shocked

this problem with this state of emergency is that the politicians are still there as govenors etc. He ought to suspend them too.

alnaijiri: State of Emergency in the North is a codeword for restricting democracy and autonomy of the Muslim North and subjugate Muslims under this Xtian Crusader government. We know this is what the South wants. Maybe they're bankrolling BH and other "Islamic" groups all along to get what they want.

It is left for governors and residents of other states, especially the north to beef up security in their states, if not the hammer will land on them as well.

We need a total military rule in the north, while the south can enjoy democracy.

Although this seems like a good move, it's imperative to ask some questions:

1. Why were the Governors spared?

2. What is the government going to do differently apart from deployment of more troops, searches and lock downs? I don't think these are entirely new.

3. The government should be mindful of the fact that declaration of a state of emergency is not a fail-safe option without addressing the fundamental issues. For example, peace has continued to elude Plateau state since OBJ days in spite of the fact that he declared an emergency rule. This is because no government has addressed the fundamental issues between the Fulanis and the indigenes.

4. What's the take of the government on the emerging ruthless group in Nasarawa? It appears like the Ombatse cult should not be treated with kid gloves and allowed to become another Boko Haram or Mend.

5. I make bold to say that though this government action may appear to be the right thing but it would not bring about a lasting peace. If it stops Boko Haram today, another group would spring up tomorrow. Some of the groups may even move to or re-surface in other states.

Why? Because the fundamental issues have not been addressed.

6. I think one of the fundamental issues is the basis of Nigerians living together. From comments of citizens, Nigerians are tired of the Nigerian arrangement and yearn for a proper federal structure or a referendum or a Conference to discuss the basis or terms of living together in this diverse, multi-religious and multi-ethnic 'geographical space' put together by Lord Lugard.

7. Until a government is bold or purposeful enough to achieve this, whatever peace you see is 'forced', 'bought', or that of the graveyard.

A bold step by GEJ. This is even long oevrdue. He suppose to have declared this emergency rule in those states beforehand. It's only the retardeen that derives pleasure in crimsoning the polity with the blood of the innocents will feel instiable with this developement. TOTAL RUBBISH: A state of emergency that won't affect the political setup of the affected states tantamounts to total rubbish. He just gave the military a presidential order to unleash a more comprehensive mayhem on unarmed civilians.

Perhaps after the dogs of war have been unleashed for a while in Boko-Haramistan, an offer could be made for folks in Northern Nigeria to reject federal grants so as to form their new nation where women wear full masquerade costumes at all times, and men wear scraggly Bin-Laden beards and flowing Moses robes, to attend the public beheadings that take place weekly after Friday prayers.

The fundamentalists won't be missed in the slightest by the rest of the country, and with their blood-stained paws removed from the pertroleum cash flow, Nigeria will finally be free of a major parasitic burden, forever.
