jmaine: Attacking Maximilliano political tilt doesn't in any way dissolve or neutralize his potent assertion on this thread . . .

He could have made his points without being dishonest or projecting a false image of what he is not. Credibility matters too.

Maxi is an interesting fellow, I have personally observed his strong support for both GEJ and Buhari at the same time. It was interesting to me cos it was against the usual norm of a typical GEJ supporter who doesn't give any shyte about Buhari like me.
Nevertheless, his political tilt doesn't invalid his factual post.

Can we now focus on the topic . . . .

Thanks cool

People think you must be like them. You must take sides. You cannot just enjoy a football game caring only to see a good game with no interest in who wins. You must hate one side and love the other. Nay,some of us care only about Nigeria or in this case Ogun and do not give a bean weevil's ass about ACN ,PDP Amosun or OGD. Rather we see those individuals as necessary or unnecessary evils as the case may be. We pray that they will do less evil and hopefully some good but we will NEVER allow their propaganda to pass without challenge. AMOSUN DID NOT BRING WEPCO,NESTLE M&B or DANGOTE to OGUN STATE THAT IS A LIE. JUST AS STUPID AS THE ONE THAT OBJ BROUGHT MOBILE PHONES TO US.
I do not see any difference in the inanity of either claim

One would have loved to see mature debate on the potentials for development in Ogun the Western region and Nigeria rather than ACN chest beating. If we are discussing from an economic /developmental perspective there would be no controversy. How you can expect to dominate the debate with obscene, partisan and self indulgent aggrandizement without challenge is a mystery. When the inevitable challenge comes it is met with bullying and brainless bluster

Some may never wish to give Amosun any credit because of innate bias and sectional affiliations which means they can never praise the effort of any ACN administrator and would even prefer to insinuate Gbenga Daniel is still in charge but the world outside Nairaland is full of balanced adults who simply give credit where due and praise innovative, transformational and driven administrators because progress is what matters.

This thread cannot be bogged down by pedantism over one company or the other. I think the substantive point is clear to progress-minded South-Westerners, Nigerians and even cosmopolitan-minded African. Business and trade unites us and transcends borders and affiliation. Let progressive people contribute their input and let us make this thread one for progressive discussion. Abeg, any businessmen here? Property developers? manufacturers? Exporters? Importers? Prospective investors? What is your take on events in Ogun?

Amosun Opens Up Ogun State for Investment: 80% Off Land for Agriculture, other Incentives

By Afolabi Ogunde on March 27, 2012

The Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, seems positioned to upstage his colleagues and perhaps even the Federal Government with the kind of policies he is formulating in Abeokuta.

At the inaugural edition of the Ogun State Investor’s Forum, the governor came out swinging for development in his state, offering perhaps the best incentives any government on any level in Nigeria has ever offered the private sector.

Land in Ogun State to be developed for agricultural purposes is now 80% off the market price. Also land to be developed for manufacturing, housing estates and schools also attract discounts of 40% to 75% from the Federal Government.

These are the kinds of incentives that will get investors up and running and serve as a catalyst for economic growth in Ogun State.

However to ensure speculators do not get involved in the mix, the government is implementing measures to checkmate their activities.

According to Amosun, “These conditions essentially require that development occurs within 180 days (six months) of the issuance of the Final Letter of Allocation.

“I must add that these discounts remain valid until December 2012; we do not want land speculators in Ogun State. We want partners, genuine long term investors. We believe that these incentives will enable us to rapidly demonstrate the exciting investment opportunities in our state.”

Amosun is capitalizing on the comparative advantage Ogun state has in terms of agriculture and proximity to Lagos in order to whet investor’s appetite.

The State is also boosting infrastructure and security. Recently the governor launched the Ogun State Security Trust Fund and the private sector has stepped up with contributions with Ecobank donating N 75 million amongst other organizations.

The thread is dead on arrival because it reads as a paid advert for politicking and self-promotion.Nigerians are savvy enough to see through that. The more important and arguable achievement of Amosun is the increase in IGR several fold that is true and admitted. We applaud that and wish him more success.Still we resent embellishment or outright lies for misguided reasons. The 35 companies Dangote WEPCO NESTLE etc claim is too important to ignore. It is untrue. Nairaland is not the place for politicking as distinct from political debate which we welcome.Politicking on this forum has predictable and inevitable results;acrimonious conflict. Ogun state has been a leader in agriculture and this has increased in prominence for many years even through OGD's reind of ignominy . All of this has been in pite of rather than because of government and so we must be wary of government taking credit for things they know nothing about.

The reason why the Dangote thing is important is simple: It happened in OGD's time and according to the logic on display he should be credited for that and the other companies that came during his reign. Or are we being told that businesses ran away from Ogun State during OGD's reign In fact we ought to conclude that ;"OGD'S TIME WAS GOOD FOR BUSINESS" It is funny this false logic is not clear to these jokers. SO if that bizarre logic does not work for OGD why should it for Amosun

@Ekt Bear.

This was what I was looking for. The 2012 comparison statistics for starting businesses in all economies of the world. The average number of days it takes to be up and trading in Nigeria, at 34, is comparatively high even compared to somes of its fellow African Countries. Not sure States have much discretion to reduce bureaucracy appreciably since some components of company registration, such as registration for tax and VAT which takes a few days, are beyond the control of the State.

Below are the specific breakdown of the stages involved in registering a business in Ogun State in 2010. Overall, you can see that the hands of States are tied somewhat at certain stages - business registration being one example - but they can make up for this in other areas where Governors have discretion to use incentives, credit assistance and specific policies to attract FDI, investment and Industry to Ogun State. I think Amosun is certainly doing better than most in this regard :
