You know these days, one doesn't know what these birth controls are made of. I was on iud as we have decided we were done and guess what? I just had a baby when I didn't plan and at a very trying time in our lives. I'm too scared now that I'm considering permanent measure.

I've read from too many women that trying to get pregnant after depo provera can take up to years.

When I just got married and wasn't prepared to have them kids, I used the withdrawal method and became a boss in it to the extent that when my wife and I were ready to have kids, na God help us because my mind was already programmed. Now, I have a son after 3 years of trying. I will still stick to the withdrawal method when we are done having kids.

Try to google 'Mirena IUD'. Its a development on the previous IUD. I've had mine for over 2yrs. If its well placed in the uterus, its very effective. It can be viewed regularly thru scan to check if its in place. I believe it will work for u too.

I don't like any form of interference with body chemistry so I won't allow my wife to use any drug or injection for birth control. IUD also made my wife bleed for so long, I could also feel it during intercourse so it's a no no.

We use a mixture of a couple of methods.
1. We start intercourse normally but I use condom when I'm about to release.
2. The first 5 days immediately after her period is our monthly christmas as we are able to go all the way without any protection.

I'm also on the implant although It's been almost two months. My menses was due about two days after the implant was inserted in my arm but i didnt see it again till about three weeks later and when it did appear, it ran for two weeks instead of the usual four and half days. It didnt come as a surprise because the nuses had informed me previously that it might make a mess of my menstral cycle. I now have this funny headache anytime I dont take my afternoon siesta as such I ensure I take it everyday.(just came out of it). Somthing else I realised is that I've lost a considerable amount of weight. I now fit perfectly into some cloths I abandoned cos they no longer fitted me. So far, I've not been on the implant long enough to blacklist it or recommend it to anyone. For me, I'm still watching. I opted for this method because I was told that with the injection might take my body quite some time to correct itself incase I decide to have another baby and the coil seemed to me to be an abortion device since it allows conception but prevents implantation of the zygote. I presently have two cuties and in future when I wish to add to the family, I'll immidiately remove the implant and look forward to a bulging stomach.

I used implanon after my first baby but my only issue with it was that i added 15kg in 8months, so I had it taken out. Then i used copper T for almost 3 yrs. I didn't gain any more weight but it was difficult to shake off what I already gained with implanon. The only downside with copper T was that my period was damn too heavy. I lived with it until I took it out to conceive my son. After my son, my doctor introduced me to Mirena. I've had it for almost 2 yrs and it's heavenly. No weight gain, no mood swings, no heavy period....in fact the period didn't show up at all for about the 11 months but I spotted for about 3 months after putting it. Some of my friends have had different experiences with Mirena e.g. Developed skin condition, mood swings e.t.c I suggest you speak with your doctor. It's different strokes for different folks.

I'm not saying there aren't medical doctors on Nairaland or being insultive to our abled doctors here. But one's personal doctor has one's medical profile and knows more about one. Moreso, there is nothing as significant as physical examination in medical field.
