This mentality is what keeps adults kids in Nigeria. I keep seeing people repeat a question "if its you will you allow your 25 yrs old kid marry a 56 yr old man". A 25 yr old woman can marry whoever she chooses, my daughter yes i will give her my blessings. You don't permit or allow adults to do what they want. I would have a honest conversation with my daughter about MY fears BUT i will not dissuade her just because this is not what i expect of her does not mean the man is not right for her. I will be disappointed if my kids don't have a mind of their own.

Every marriage has its own unique challenges. It is not for me to decide the challenge i want her to face in her marriage because as much as i want the best for her my idea of what is the best for her may not be right for her. Parents and family are not infallible and are usually clouded by bias, conditioning and judgements in situations like this.As a grown-up, I expect my daughter to appreciate me but she is not obliged to do everything that i ask or expect from her.
