1supremo: IF THE DIALOGUE APPEARS TOO LONG, READ THIS EXCERPT: IT'S A GOOD SYNOPSIS

"Your leaders have no respect for their people. They believe that their personal interests are the interests of the people. They take people's resources and turn it into personal wealth. There is a level of poverty in Nigeria that should be unacceptable. I cannot understand why Nigerians are not more angry than they are.

''Your elections are like wars. Now we hear that you cannot be president in Nigeria unless you are Muslim or Christian. Some people tell me your country may break up. Please don’t let it happen.

"What do young Nigerians think about your leaders and their country and Africa? Do you teach them history? Do you have lessons on how your past leaders stood by us and gave us large amounts of money? You know I hear from Angolans and Mozambicans and Zimbabweans how your people opened their hearts and their homes to them. I was in prison then, but we know how your leaders punished western companies who supported Apartheid." I reminded him that we had elected governments since 1999, and he knew some of our leaders in person. Yes, he did. "But what about the corruption and the crimes?" he asked.

''Let me tell you what I think you need to do; You should encourage leaders to emerge who will not confuse public office with sources of making personal wealth. Corrupt people do not make good leaders. Then you have to spend a lot of your resources for education. Educate children of the poor, so that they can get out of poverty. Poverty does not breed confidence. Only confident people can bring changes. Poor, uneducated people can also bring change, but it will be hijacked by the educated and the wealthy."

People had said to him that South Africa could become an alternative beacon of hope and inspiration for the black race and Africa. He told them it was always going to be Nigeria. "So," he said to me, "If this audience has been useful, I am glad. But it will be more useful to me if you go back to Nigeria and work to give young Nigerians good education. Teach them the value of hard work and sacrifice, and discourage them from crimes which are destroying your image as a good people.''

No they don't! But what do you expect in a country where people think some courses are useless? I wonder why they are created then. We didn't have history teacher while I was in secondary school....why? Because History teachers are scarce! Why? because no one wants to study history again! Why? The deluded society!

What a great article! The people of Nigeria are bringing Nigeria down!

EloquentMedia: Before we begin to blame our leaders, lets reexamine ourselves because our leaders still come from among us. If you still come to Nairaland to indulge in tribal warfare, then it is YOU Madiba is disappointed at. If you still cheat in the exam, and pass exam by sorting-it's a clear sign that you will cheat in election, and embezzle public funds. it is YOU that is painting us black let us as youths change our ways, embrace godly values and shun the get rich quick syndrome and collectively we will get to the promised land in our generation. And this sums it all up!

Madiba have said it all, but it beat my imagination how Nigerians can believe this leaders, who pray on everything that set us apart rather than things that unify us. They pray on ethnicity, religion and so on. No Nigerian leader has been able to create any political ideology for Nigerians, none of them has been able to create a way of life we can all believed in, no clear road map towards achieving concrete development both in the areas of human development, natural resources and infra-structural wise. This our so called leader do not love their people but instead blame others regions for the woes they've created, how come we only criticise the federal government alone, whereas there is state government, local government, state house of rep, and many other institutions that are created to reduce and to lessen poverty in our various state. Nigerians should stop been gullible and challenge this leaders for accountability, believe me this bad leaders are not only in PDP but also in opposition, APC. Please Nigeria let's stand-up to this people, this leaders who believed by pressing the button of ethnicity, religion and tribalism can always go scout free and still enjoy their loot. I will like us to start by denouncing this leaders from our various regions who have done nothing to better the lots of the people. I hereby denounce .... Olusegun Obasanjo for having power to do so much and he choose to do little, all the governors in the south-west from 1999 till date, all the senators, house reps from 1999 till date.

He should also have been angry with himself and his country. Despite the political concessions made by the Mandela-led ANC, social inequality and economic injustice persists, till date, in the Rainbow Nation. This is a country (South Africa) that has a GDP ($408.24 billion as of 2011) that's far greater then Nigeria's ($243.99 billion as of 2011), a population (50,586,757 as of 2011) that's less than 40% that of Nigeria's (162,470,737 as of 2011), and yet has an unemployment rate (29.8% as of 2011) that's greater than Nigeria's (23.90% as of 2011).

Then you have to spend a lot of your resources for education. Educate children of the poor, so that they can get out of poverty. Poverty does not breed confidence. Only confident people can bring changes.

This is the nugget of societal development that is embraced by the developed countries where we run to and those aspiring to join the league like China. They all ensure ALL children are in school while continually improving the quality of the education.

Awolowo understood this and ensured primary schools were free and COMPULSORY.
The UPN governors moved to the next level making secondary schools free even with textbooks and established subsidised universities and other tertiary institutions.
These measures lifted so many in the West out of chronic poverty and made them today's elites.
The big question is what have we done with this legacy

I hope you realise that Nigerian statistics are not as reliable as those of South Africa given the system they inherited not so long ago after apartheid compared to ours that has been bastardised for almost four decades but is slowly being revived now as with other things by Jonathan administration.

Moreover you need to realise there are millions of Nigerians flooding into South Africa to work there despite their "higher" unemployment rate.
Another factor is the unemployability of the majority SA blacks due to lack of education that will take decades of dedicated efforts to fix.

The f00lish defends his shortcomings by pointing out the faults of others and so remains in his mess; the WISE simply recognises his mistakes and decides to make amends for his own good.

Wisdom or F00lishness is a choice, one is positive and the other is negative.....you find the educated and the uneducated all in either group! I am, therefore, not surprised here.
