why the fuss about this ribadu of a guy. This guy was over-promoted, from a deputy commisioner of police to an Assistant inspector general of police. this is the best riddance to a very bad rubbish.

@ GOSS

In life you cannot win all the time. You win some and loose some. If I'm in his shoes, I will resign and look for appointment outside Nigeria. He is well trained and an asset anyday anytime.

This issue came up in another thread about 2 months ago and I suggested that the guy should play a fast one and resign as an AIG. Now that the late Haz Iwendi was also demoted, it shows that even if Ribadu had resigned, he would still have been demoted. During the OBJ era, United Nations offered him a job and he declined, if he had known he would have acted like Oby Ezekwesili who resigned as a minister to take up a UNO job. A great lesson to other aspiring patriots. But the guy must have a large heart to be able to soak all these in.

The Police is even in a dilemma because an officer in his new grade is not qualified to attend a course at Kuru.

The Mallam once, the central protagonist in Nigeria’s ‘fight’ against corruption is now being laid bare through the instruments used by those in the citadel of power. His treatment proves that truth threatens power, and power threatens truth.

Mamajama:

QUOATE

The Guardian yesterday, Afenifere wondered why the current Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, was not affected if really the reason for the demotion was that the affected officers were "promoted out of rank."

"It is on record that he (Okiro) was promoted from Commissioner of Police (CP) to Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) without ever being an Assistant Inspector-General (AIG). Even his confirmation as IG bypassed (Ogbonnaya) Onovo who was senior to him," Afenifere said.

Can someone ask the police service commission why Okiro was promoted over Onovo?

http://www.nigeriamasterweb.com/paperfrmes.html
When NuHU was fighting his corruption they way he did, i asked when are we going to see all the Govs arrested, Mamajama answered me that its one after the other that he cannot arrest all at the same time. Now he thinks that all illegally promoted will be demoted at the same time.hahahaha i think your logik will as well be played here.

To be honest ALL illegally promoted should be demoted irrespective of who is involved.

The PSC is a shameless commission in my own view.Could Ribadu promote himself to the rank of AIG without approval from appropriate authority? The due process they are now taking about is a trash.Which/what due process?

The demotion is baseless, unremarkable and malicious.Though the man Ribadu is not a saint but he does not deserve such humiliation.

Did Okiro's promotion from Commissioner to DIG follow due process?Consequently to AIG/IG?Without any apology, the PSC decision is very cracy and absurd.

If I were Ribadu,I would call it quit.It only shows the country,Nigeria we are in.

And to the PSC,its members' turn will definitely come.

Re: Police Demotes Ribadu- Ex Efcc Boss by jimmyjam: 2:40am On Aug 08, 2008
Nuhu ribadus issue is not uncommon, it is known as "field rank or appointment rank"  in armed forces and police circles.

An officer can temporarily recieve advance and double promotion  based on a specific skill or training they have for the purpose of being in charge of a particular department, they may even train their seniors or restructure the, department or corps. the aim of it is for effectiveness of the program and department.

During the nigerian civil war, police and military officers who where usually being trained within 3 to 4 years, had their taining reduced to  a 1 year direct /short service commision which was created for holders of OND, HND , Bsc, medical doctors etc

once they left NDA and Police college they where given field ranks as Lt cols,  majors, captains with only one or two months of specialist training  versus the 1 year we have today (the specialist areas included armour, signals, pilot training, criminology etc) even constables where being promoted to inspectors  as soon as the civil war was over they all returned to their original rank.

even during the liberian war, many nigerian army officers held field ranks even the commanders such as generals dogonyaro, olurin, shagaya, inienger etc as soon as their assignment was over and they reported back to nigeria , they returnd to their original rank of brigadier, the army they did this so as to ensure compliance, respect and prevent insubprnination from other west african armed forces that where under their command

there are many appointments ribadu can still hold to regain the field rank especially if he heads NDLEA, NAFDAC , CID, SSS he can even be assigned to national intelligence agency or to be part of interpol in the UN or hear in nigeria.

This whole drama paints a vivid picture of what Nigeria represents: chaos, lack of direction, insincerity and confusion. This is a Nuhu Ribadu who was promoted above his seniors and then became a csar against corruption. He spent more time abroad giving lectures, boasting and promoting himself more than the issue he was meant to be fighting. He had few successes catching few 419 kingpins and then came the election (sorry selection) of 2007, he sprang to life.

Deciding who will live and who will die, called people corrupt before starting any investigation, boast about how many governors he will send to jail but once they were out of power he went silent.

He left his job and became too much involve in politics and became OBJ hatchet man, choose those he will proescute and those he will turn a blind eyes to. Had he had switch his phone off Obj and fight corruption head on without self publicity and distance himself totally from politicians and insulate himself with the public. He would have been a hero today and if Yar Adua wants to mess him up, he will just resign. His name would had been written in gold and not in mud.

But as with anything Nigeria, he messed up many criminals and innocent people at will, messed up himself and now the system and those that operates it are making sure that he is finally and totally humiliated. What a leasson to be learn but Nigeria, unfortunately suffers lack of memory at all times and next to become another Ribadu will be Soludo and Akunyilli, unless they resign now, if not they will all sing "had I know" in the end.

Due process my ass. I you want due process, then Yar Adua should resigned first because no one elected him as president, that will be the best way to start due process.

Re: Police Demotes Ribadu- Ex Efcc Boss by chidichris(m): 5:02pm On Aug 08, 2008
the major problem with nigeria is lack of solution.
the demotion is not questionable. what we should be talking about now is; how did the promotion happen? who was behind it? if we are really interested in solving problems, we must learn to identify problems and sources before talking about solution.
obj is no more our president and sooner than later, he will be out of office from pdp's bot. nigerians shld summon obj to tell us why such promotion and ribadu must be made to appologise to nigerians over his deciept.
the situation is the same with mustapha who happened to be abacha's hitman.
i mentioned it here on this forum sometime ago that ribadu is to obj what mustapha was to abacha the difference was just partern as abacha's was military while obj's was civil.
what goes goes arround must surely come arround.
atiku was part and pârcel of the notorius pdp until he was toyed with by the master of the game and only then did he turn back to tell nigerians that pdp is fraudulent.
nigerians, who is decieving who?
Re: Police Demotes Ribadu- Ex Efcc Boss by AkoEja: 7:52pm On Aug 08, 2008
This act of demoting Ribadu surmarises Yaradua's leadership. He is a total dissapointment. A real wolf in sheep's skin. Of course, corrupt nairalanders here will be happy with Ribadu's demotion, while forthright Nigerians will feel very sad. Fine! say what you like! but remember; your response to this tells us the kind of person you are!
While Ribadu did not tackle all corrupt officials when he was head of EFCC; the fact remains that it will be impossible to do so, when you look at the large numbers of corrupt people involved. It will take at least 50 years to deal with all the cases of corrupt Nigerians legally!

Surely Ribadu did not have that time. The man did enough. That is why a lot of Nigerians see him as a hero.

It is great credit to Obasanjo to have found people like Ribadu, Akunyili, Soludo, Nkonjo Iweala etc.; and allowed them to operate.

Nigerians have short memories. Ribadu was the first to successfully try and convict a serving high official like the former IG. never in Nigeria's history has that happened before.

Fellow Nigerians, do not despair, the road may be rough, but we will get there in the end

frankly i welcome the act in its entirety, in whatever shade it comes, deu process is it, let us follow due process.but i seriously think that he is qualified for promotion under the police service commission's recommednation, but not a double promotion sha
Re: Police Demotes Ribadu- Ex Efcc Boss by jimmyjam: 5:34am On Aug 09, 2008
ribadu is very arrogant, pompous , proud , heady , he has been like this since secondary school becaus of th powerful oligarcy northern fulani family he com from and all nigerians should learn from this. in nigeria your boss is like a big fish in an aquarium, and if you as a small fish want to outshine them they can swallow you alive.

ribadu stepped on so many toes in the police and politians a lot of politicians will pay high price for him to be retired so that he will not jail them. Also police officers and even people like buhari are jealous of him and will stop at nothing until hes retired because he wants to outshine buhari and musa bamaiyi on curruption. ribadu is like col abubakar dingiwa umar., they are very professional they both know the job very well , but very arrogant and blunt and some people dont like it!
Re: Police Demotes Ribadu- Ex Efcc Boss by jimmyjam: 6:03am On Aug 09, 2008
Ribadu is not the only one that was rapidly promoted , apprently the late gen shehu musa yar aduas son was also promoted above his nda coursemates, he is now a major while his mates are still army captains. and so where many officers that have ties to politicians.

it is politicians that are spoiling the armed forces and police with this culture of rapid promotion and bribe to effect arrest of political enemies or to facilitate retirement of certain officers. as the saying goes waiting for your turn is very important.

in nigeria if you want to outshine the big bosses you can end up worse than your started and this is what ribadus issue is. hes not alone there was a navy captain alile who was retired lately and is the son of apostle hayford alile. alile was very arrogant he stepped on toes of even his seniors and was openly making statements like "no admiral can touch me, we are now in democratic rule" unknown to him that its a group of retird former naval chiefs that control the navy. they death with him with retirment infact he was almost dismissed and they mad it clear to him that the navy was not for the children of apostles, that he should go into banking like his father.
Re: Police Demotes Ribadu- Ex Efcc Boss by jimmyjam: 6:33am On Aug 09, 2008
ribadu cannot want to be nigeria biggest anti curruption czar without mentioning and hailing people like buhari because people like buhari can use the connctions and influnce they have to stop his (ribadus) shine. he was asked in the media if buhari was his mentor , but ribadu said no. so he blew the oppourtunity to play the role of what i call "a yourba congo drum beating praise singer at an owambe party" becaus h should have mentiond that buhari, bamayi did a lot against curruption.

there a particular culture, code, creed of whats expected from you in the nigerian armd forces if you fall short of these they can mess you up. its just like if someone tells you there are some things that will help you survive the culture of working at shell petroluem or at zenith bank for example. unfortunately no one has told ribadu what is called modus operandi or "unofficial code of conduct" of how the nigrian , police, civil service and armed forces operate.

Re: Police Demotes Ribadu- Ex Efcc Boss by jimmyjam: 5:56pm On Aug 09, 2008
there are 4 or more types of pressure that people can succumb to:

1 peer pressure:

im sure a lot of ribadus mates, peers and school mates from nigrian law school, police college etc put pressure on him to form EFCC using obj and yar adua they  also could benefit in terms of appointment.

a lot of nigerian men specially those who steal from government or abuse power are simply doing it because their wifes, girlfriends and expecting certain things from them.

2 parental pressure:

ribadu wants to please his father, family and uncles . a lot of nigerian parents like to see their child achieve while thy are still alive, so that they can boast to their friends that their child is more sucessful than theres, ribadu is also a victim of this type of pressure.

evn george bush senior appears to be under prssur from his father george bush junior, the same with colin powel and his son. so sometime parents and relativs push thier children to their own peril

3 immature/child pressure:

this is when somone senior in age is allowing someone younger to over influence them: e.g a small child wanting too many sweets that can cuase him to get sick or that can leave the older adult finanicially broke and eventually in trouble themselves

ribadu over influenced people for his over promotion, for creation of EFCC, for attendance to NIPSS course etc
and now hes gtting sick (demoted, queried etc) and obj and yar adua may eventaully get in trouble themselves for over obliging and over encouraging him.

4. group pressure/pressure groups: this is use of pressure groups such as commitiees, associations, boards, unions etc to make someone change their decision or direction.

If was pressure groups, riots, workers strikes, leaders of thought and international organisations that influenced, adviced and urged IBB to step aside

sometimes people from a persons village or rural area can put pressure on thier sons and daughters who are in a certain positions to marry many wives or to steal government money, so they can share it from them

similarly ribadu used the PSC to promote himself, he also used OBJ to influnce and use a group of senators to create EFCC in the constition.

also EFCC has too much pressure and powers in some areas that its not suppose to have because EFCC was even taking on the role of Interpol in nigeria which is suppose to be handling internal 419ers, EFCC is for local 419 ers (govt curruption, local nigerian fraudsters) not international based (fred ajudua)

4 political pressure/ pressure group

Well, I think the man, Ribadu is just receiving his reward for the errands he did for Baba (OBJ). He charged every of Baba's enemies to court namely Orji Kalu, Alamiesiegh, former Plateau state governor and others. But he left untouched people like Andy Uba (former special assistant to Baba on domestic affairs), Chief Bode George (former NPA boss & Baba's henchman), even late Adedibu went scot free.
I think there is always a day of reckoning and that God still rules our nation.
