Queen takes knight!....wrong

Hehehe, queen takes knight, pawn takes queen, and there's no follow-up, cuz you can't get any rook to the h-file. You're down material, your b2 rook hangs too.

A line might go 1...Qxg3 2.hxg3 Nf2+ 3.Kh2 and if ...Nd3 4.Qc3 and if ...Ree2 5.Qxd3 threatening 6.d5+ and the rooks on the second rank can't do anything to the h2 king.

Try again. grin

This should be Kasparov vs Karpov in Berlin. 1...QXd4 2.Rd1 Nf2+ 3.Kg1 Nxd1+ 4.Kf1 Qf2#

Ahh, we've got an aficionado here! Nice.

That's cool you remember/know the game, cuz truthfully I don't know it grin I'm not at that game-recalling level yet oh.

...Qxd4 is a strong move, probably the strongest, tryna clear off potential passed pawns.

There's an equally strong (and prettier) move here though, try and find it.

I don't know why my responses on this thread (replies to loluores' chess puzzle) are being hid.

Is that a human moderator that doesn't like my post, or a bot that is overworked? sad

2.h3 Qxg3 (threatens ...Qh2#) 3.hxg4 (forced) Qh4#
Re: Nairaland Official Chess Thread! by ositadima1(m): 10:58pm On May 31, 2016
White had to take rook b2 to protect against Nf2# checkmate.

Ah I missed that h4 checkmate. Urgh I have gotten so rusty. Thanks!

I was going to argue that the Qxd4 was better, but this might be better.
