Back to our skirt....six pcs skirt can be really tricky and every designer has his or her own method that works for them.

For me d way I was taught is kind of confusing to understand so after I taught few people and it took them ages to figure it out so I began a search for appropriate method that suits me and those around me.

The first thing you need to do is get Ur waist, hip and kneel measurement (circumference) waist to hip (where u have Ur figure 8 grin) waist to kneel (where Ur flare starts from).

Then I will decide how full I want my skirt to be that will determine how many yards of fabric u will use.

I want it full in a normal way....so am using 3yrds for my skirt. (for bigger babe's u can use 3.5 - 4yrds)

Time for some math, in a yard of fabric we have 36inches so am multiplying dat by number of yards then divide what u get by 6 dats (number of pcs of Ur skirt) to give us our fabric to fold for d first pcs/each pcs.

36 x 3 = 108
108 ÷ 6 = 18

Now we cut out our paper 18inches width by Ur skirt height.

Any questions? Do we understand Wat have explained so far?
.
Pls i ve a question to ask ? What comes abt d 36x3? Thanks

36x3 means converting the three yards of cloth available to you for use, to inches, for easy division. (36 inches x 3 yards =108 inches

After cutting our paper...18 inches by Ur skirt length.

Fold Ur paper into 2 cos we will measuring on fold. Lay Ur paper in a landscape and start Ur measurement from the top right corner....using Ur hip measurement divide Ur hip into 6 dats number of pieces u are making, add 0.5inch to Wat to get e.g. 40÷6 +0.5.....measure whatever u get for Ur waist, hip (you can also use yr waist measurement for Ur waist by dividing it into 6, I like to use my hip for both waist and hip and shape out after joining cos most ladies have tummy and might need room later)

Now measure Ur waist to kneel, Mark the deduct 2 inches from Ur hip and divide into 6 then add 0.5 inches to it e.g. 40-2=38 ÷6=6.3 +0.5 = mark Ur answer.

Read through and let me know if u understand d math then will send pics later.

You need to write down d process and understand.

Re: DIY (do It Yourself) & Sew Along by Nobody: 8:55am On Oct 28, 2014
Note..after cutting 1 fold Ur fabric to cut the 2nd and place Ur pattern clockwise to manage fabric. Cut out 5pcs the same size if u are putting if zip at the back....add 2inches or 1.5 allowance by positioning Ur pattern forward and cut.

Like I explained earlier, after cutting d first one, fold Ur fabric again and flip Ur fabric clockwise meaning, u will notice d cutting if d first part from yr fold just place d flare part d other side and Ur waist part d other side. Don't have d pix of dat, hope dis makes sense to u or better still cut d best way u can, am sure u will find Ur own method along d line.

Study d last pix. See d part where d waist is placed after cutting beside d remaining fabric? Now fold Ur fabric again and rotate d one u cut out to where d waist was put d foot there.....hope u get d explanation?
