DRealGeesam1: My confession and apology

Dear nairalanders and everyone who have heard of the ebola Prevention "News", My name is Adesewa, I am coming out clean because what started has a joke has escalated into the unprecedented.
How it started
Yesterday i was with friend in her hostel, we were talking about this Ebola out break, when one of my friends, Funke (she introduced me to nairaland) brought the idea of Us playing a prank on our friends. The first suggestion was to tell people that aloe very could cure Ebola, but we thought it would sound too ridiculous so we forgot about it.

Later that even an idea came to me (i now regret that i did it).
I decided to send a BBM broadcast message to my friends, telling them that the Ministry of Health has asked everyone to bathe with salt and warm water and drink some of it.
I sent the message 7:08pm yesterday

Later this midnight i started getting calls and messages that i should drink salt water and bath with it.

All efforts to tell people that i was the one who started the joke failed. Only my friends who i mentioned earlier believed me. Even my mum could me this morning, i did not know what to tell her.

I am using this medium to beg you all to warn and tell everyone, before they drink salt and damage their health.

Please dont be hash on me. I know this has gone out of hand. I never knew it will be this serious. Some have even added to the original message i sent.

I find it funny actually. My mum first informed me this morning. Also received a text from a friend.
The first thing that came to my mind is that this is obviously a rumor.
I even thought about starting a rumor myself - urinate in bath water to prevent ebola spread.
But i gave myself brain sharply. That would actually have caused more harm.
I was offended by the fact that anyone would believe the salt and water thing in the first place.
In this day and age of information technology, ppl still fall for these kinds of story, smh
Whether u started the rumor or not, one should take time to confirm any story they receive. What do we have internet and google for?

You are a big fool. You should be ready to quietly receive insults for spreading false information on a matter that is as sensitive as this. You find Ebola a joke? Better start praying and fasting that it does not visit you so u'll experience d helplessness and anguish of those who are already affected directly or indirectly.

This is a very bad move, Adesewa. Nairaland reaches far and wide. Be sure security people are already on your heels with the info you gave out. I hope it's not an attempt to implicate an innocent person because the way you were liberal with your info is suspicious.

Mistakes happen. Your apology is accepted atleast by me. My mother woke up this morning and started bathing with warm water and salt while complaining that she hates bathing with warm water and that salt is not good for a woman her age. She is above the age of 60. Her phone was ringing through the night. People kept calling her to tell her to bath with warm water and salt and drink some too. She told my brother, our house help and all of our family members to do the same. I told her I ain't doing that crap. I have sensitive skin and will not bath with salted water. I am covered by the blood of Christ Jesus so ebola can go to hell.

On a side note, Nigerians can mumu sha. I told my brother that there is no way salt and warm water can protect one from a deadly virus like ebola. I told my brother that this news is a rumor and that unless I hear this message from the world health organization (WHO), then I am not buying into it. This was long before I even logged into Nairaland and saw this thread on the homepage. It goes to show how gullible many Nigerians are if they could believe that a deadly contagious virus like ebola that causes internal bleeding could be prevented by drinking mere warm water and salt and bathing with it. No wonder the white man dey take us do yeye for Naija because dem no say our people no get sense!
lol, i didn't even try that, i knew it was a lie

Which is worse? That the OP comes out to claim "she" is responsible for the rumour or that Nigerians actually swallow her unverifiable claim? She should send us a screenshot of her sending the BC at the stated time. Pathetic.

We are coming to nick you and Funke soo. Thanks for the information on where we can find you. Anyway, you can run, but you and your friends cannot hide. Actually my brother-in-law woke me up with rumor of salt water. But I quickly put him off telling him that Ebola is not my portion in Jesus name, and besides, why do I need to bath, because I'm not even close to the people who are affected. Here is a good report from the US health services: PLS READ AND STOP SPREADING IGNORANCE-:-----EBOLA FACTS--- US STATE DEPARTMENT EBOLA ALERT In order to help our Embassy Community better understand some of the key points about the Ebola virus we have consulted with our medical specialists at the U S State Department and assembled this list of bullet points worded in plain language for easy comprehension. Our medical specialists remind everyone that they should be following the guideline from the center for Disease Control and the World Health Organisation. • The suspected reservoirs for Ebola are fruit bats. • Transmission to humans is thought to originate from infected bats or primates that have become infected by bats. • Undercooked infected bat and primate (bush) meat transmits the virus to humans. • Human to human transmission is only achieved by physical contact with a person who is acutely and gravely ill from the Ebola virus or their body fluids. • Transmission among humans is almost exclusively among caregiver family members or health care workers tending to the very ill. • The virus is easily killed by contact with soap, bleach, sunlight, or drying. A washing machine will kill the virus in clothing saturated with infected body fluids. • A person can incubate the virus without symptoms for 2-21 days, the average being 5-8 days before becoming ill. THEY ARE NOT CONTAGIOUS until they are acutely ill. • Only when ill does the viral load express itself first in the blood and then in other bodily fluids (to include vomit, feces, urine, breast milk, semen and sweat). • If you are walking around you are not infectious to others. • There are documented cases from Kikwit, DRC of an Ebola outbreak in a village that had the custom of children never touching an ill adult. Children living for days in small one room huts with parents who died from Ebola did not become infected. • You cannot contract Ebola by handling money, buying local bread or swimming in a pool. • There is no medical reason to stop flights, close borders, restrict travel or close embassies, businesses or schools. • As always practice good hand washing techniques, but you will not contract Ebola if you do not touch a dying person. • US EMBASSY Please share this information with your friends and families and try not to spread panic on social media. Please read this and be wise. Never allow yourself to be taken for a fool. Education is knowledge.

How would you like to enjoy a soothing bath
and at the same time take care of all sorts of
health troubles, such as skin problems—
including acne—recurrent infections, insect
bites, female problems, and even arthritis and
rheumatism? It’s easy to do with a salt bath.
