@mylove4him, I'll send you a brief info I got on the net a while back on the JD, tasks, expected skills, abilities and work activities et.c of Occupational Health & Safety Specialists in the USA, you might just be able to glean some things from it at least, for mental preparation. Cheers!

@funnizle you can check out WWW.GLOBALHSE.COM. I've not had any dealings with them personally so you'll need to do your due dilligence (check) on them as per accreditation et.c.

Any other info from anyone in the house on other accredited NEBOSH centres in Nigeria is welcome!

Was told that its compulsory I take the general hse before the levels 2 and 3 courses. How true is this?

@pamelaa
Are you refering to NISP? If yes, to the best of my knowledge, it is not compulsary to take the General HSE before levels 2 & 3 (at least, I never did) if you already have a first degree. Is this a new rule? What's the source of your information, if I may ask?

@diehard. Many thanks for this offer. HELLO all IT savvy people in the house, can you advice on how we can get round this challenge of receiving/sharing this 1gig. sized document

And how shall we reward the one that proffers a workable solution to this challenge? Shall we can recommend the fellow for induction into the "Nairaland HSE hall of fame" grin Guys your suggestions are truly welcome!

Is NEBOSH really that popular in Nigeria?

One thing to note is that you can't really complete NEBOSH without doing a 'practical' exam - so unless there are study centres in Nigeria that can provide that practical aspect, you can only complete the earlier stages of the exams.

Besides, there are so many other areas of learning you can consider within HSE and not just NEBOSH.

On the safety side, you can consider other things such as occupational health, while in Environment you can pay attention to Emergency response training (oil spill response for example), ISO 14001 auditor training amongst others.

Wish you all the best as you pursue your HSE careers.

@pamelaa, I'm surprised to hear that, but I'll advise you to make time (if you can) to personally go to NISP to clarify (just in case, the person you spoke with on phone wasn't precise).

@brainwave, I called portharcourt and warri NISP offices and was told thesame thing. And its more expensive to begin with the general hse. Thought I could begin frm level 2 or even level 1.

@pameela, Exactly! the General HSE is more expensive than Levels 1 or 2 to start with though, I had mine at the Lagos chapter back then. If for geographical reasons, you can only deal with Warri & PH chapters, you may just have to comply with their requirements then.

@diehard and brainwave thank u very much for congratulating me on my new job. I really appreciate everyone of u. I went to drop my acceptance letter n am travelling to the place (Ughelli) on Tuesday to resume as HSE Advisor. I won't have to bother about accommodation and feeding because it is being taken cared of.

@Pamela the reason u are told to do general HSE might be because u don't ve an Engineering background. Though as for me I did one in a private firm b4 going to NISP and I have an Engineering background.

Hello

I am new to this group and i came about this topic as i was doing some research on the certifications required to be a Health and Safety Professional. I am seeking entry into the Health and Safety field to be a HSE practitioner and I think acquiring professional qualifications will really enhance my motive. I am interested in the Energy (Oil & Gas) Industry

I am currently domiciled out of Nigeria and i intend to relocate back ASAP. I intend to go into this field when i relocate as my current profession is not practiced as such in Nigeria. (Application Testing in the Information Technology Industry)

I will really like to get in touch with Diehard and Brainwave. I have read their contributions and will like to have a chat with them. I don't know if posting my email address to establish contact is allowed or how to establish contact with both of you.

Can you both (Diehard and Brainwave) let me know.

Many thanks

Aba.

@Diehard. Thanks for trying with the solution to send the files. Am currently looking at other options to enable others and i have access to the resources you have. Further to this, i need to have a chat with you regarding Health and Safety in Nigeria as you have vast experience in the field. If this is possible, my email add is on the signature. It will be appreciated.
