Guchis:

Hello all.

I plan taking the general HSE at NISP but was informed they don't have weekend programs.
My work schedule is very tight and i'm not free until sept when i take my annual leave.

Can anyone help out with HSE institutes that offer weekend programs? I really need the HSE course/certification asap!.

Thanx.

@Guchis, To the best of my knowledge, NISP is the most 'recognized' certification body we have in Nigeria presently so, I'll advice that you take the course (General HSE) with them. As per your schedule, the course normally runs Mondays through Fridays therefore, the weekend option may not be feasible with NISP at this time. I don't think September is too far off (I mean, we're almost in February already), you might just have to wait till then if it has to be with NISP i.e, if you can't get time off work before then. Cheers!

@dskenky, u're welcome on board! U may go for the General HSE or Level 2 either of which would qualify you for the Level 3 course. Cheers!

Has anyone done HSE training with OSHA before? This saftey training org is based in usa and they have a consultant in Nigeria called Elakgroup. I want to know how efficient the training is. Though the certificate is signed and sealed by the US based owner.

@kkkossy, OSHA I believe, is a US government agency that deals with the enforcement of occupational H & S legislation. So, if you're looking at an international career in the US,  it may make sense to patronize them. While they may truly award the final certificates, I think it makes sense to consider the quality of the tuition at the nigerian centre (just as you're trying to do via this forum). So, the question remains, has anyone done business (training) with these guys in Ngeria to be able to attest to its 'quality'?

So glad i stumbled upon this thread during my quest for more info on H.S.E. Great job by debosky and co.!!! wink

So here's my story,
Am a graduate awaiting NYSC in June. Finished in the University last year Aug and cos of d forecasted NYSC delay, i started another diploma programme in the Certified Institute of Shipping with specialization in H.S.E in Oct last year. I only picked H.S.E cos i was advised to and after doing some research about it, i really can't wait to continue the following month in H.S.E but am a bit worried.

Thing is i graduated with a B.Sc in Business Administration and i wanna join u guys but almost everyone here is talking Chemistry, Engineering and Science. I have heard of NISP and i wanna go for it but am I on the right track considering my area of study in the Uni,

If i wanna get a Masters certificate in the nearest future, which would be more relevant to the Universities abroad {NISP or my PGD in Shipping n H.S.E} ?

Or should i just concentrate wholly on Shipping, logistics, port management and the likes

Please help anyone, i could really use some embarassed sad sad

@envee, sorry this is coming late

To answer your question, i.e, NISP or PDG in Shipping, your choice should be determined by your post-NYSC career plans. You may have to decide if you'd want to go into HSE proper or not. Understandably, there's an element of uncertainty in making such decisions especially when you don't have a ready job waiting.

The good thing about the NISP pathway is that you can take it in bits n pieces i.e over a long period of time. But for specifics, you may enquire in advance with your university of choice about the suitability of NISP certification for MSc admission puposes.

HSE MANAGEMENT is a hot new career path for graduates these days.it seems a lot of guys are using safety certifications to enhance their job placement.i just completed a special GRADUATE HSE SPECIALIST COURSE with occupational safety academy in lagos and, boy! the course was packed-we even got a full lowdown on EIA/EMS ISO 14001 and other stuff you don't get to learn.i hope to enrol for NEBOSH but their course does not contain our nigerian safety legislation.dats my concern, with oil and gas local content law, petroleum industry bill, etc its better to be well grounded in nigerian safety laws b4 i begin pursue oyibo own.anyway check out occupational safety academy programmes at www.oilfieldjobsandcareers..com

I havent been on this thread for a while after i asked some questions regarding getting a role after certification, now i need an advice after my Nebosh IGC, my exam centre approached me about their new nebosh course , that is the Nebosh technical certificate in oil and gas safety, and they also confirmed that if was doing this i would be given a fire safety or contruction safety course to do free of charge, can you advise

1, is it ok for me to do this oil and gas safety even after my IGS with no job to show so far

2, should i decide to take it, which would be more attractive btw the fire and construction, as i'm thinking the construction cert will be useful in the UK HSE environment which i am, but if i am looking towards oil and gas, fire might probably be better off, please advice, thanks, mr debosky its been a while.

@mimi2k, can you be a bit more explicit? I mean in terms of the awarding institutions for the qualifications you're seeking an opinion on, that would certainly help in giving a relevant advice, sorry this is coming late though,
