Presently Awka is a huge construction site. A lot of road reconstruction is ongoing along with the 3 flyovers and wide road dual carriageway networks inside the greenwood city. Its an emerging California.

One thing Anambra must ban is the siting of commercial motor parks along the two major federal highways (Enugu-Onitsha & the Onitsha - Owerri expressway). Motor parks just spring up anyhow on these two roads defeating any attempt to decongest them and make traffic free flowing at all times.

Anambra State Govt in Partnership With Innoson Group

"Our objective here today is to expand the vision of one man so that it becomes the vision of a people.
"We have resolved to avoid the mistakes of the past when we lacked the foresight to harness the gifts and talents of today for the progress and prosperity of tomorrow.
"The partnership we are cementing today is an important step in exploiting INDUSTRIALIZATION, which is one of the Four Pillars of my administration’s economic blueprint.
"The other three are Agriculture, Trade & Commerce and Oil & Gas".
These were words of Governor Willie Obiano when the trio of Anambra State Government, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company (IVM) and the Federal Polytechnic Oko launched the Bridge Project in which the students and teachers of the technical colleges around the state began learning the intricacies of designing automobile bodies and other elements of automobile engineering.
In the partnership which will last for 10 years, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company offers its auto production line for the benefit of the study, while their crop of auto engineers, designers and technicians devote time in teaching and mentoring the engineering students.
Also under the partnership, lecturers from the Federal Polytechnic, Oko will support the Innoson group with their own expertise and theoretical applications.

The presence of these lecturers will heighten the academic and conceptual content of the programme and ensure a balanced and wholesome experience.
In the first phase of the Bridge Project, 493 students drawn from the 11 technical colleges in Anambra state are participating in the pilot programme.
If successful then Anambra may well be on its way to become the first in the country to own a completely indigenous automobile manufacturing and assembly plant.
You will recall that the world bank under the State Education Programme Investment Project (SEPIP) committed the sum of $2.1m to the project. In another developement, the state government has signed a $150m agreement with UDIPPCO for the construction of an 80 megawatts of electricity to feed the growing industrial city of Nnewi. cool

I found this comment interesting..

dmercy141983:
*OTHERS GOVERNORS SHOULD GO FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE TOTURIAL FROM OBIANO*

GOV WILLIE OBIANO SUCCEEDING WHERE OTHERS ARE FAILING IN SALARY PAYMENT

Why Have Anambra And Lagos Been Finding It Easy To Pay Salaries And The Other 34 States Finding It Difficult To Do The Same?
In a phone conversation with my mum this evening, she told me Anambra Civil servants received April alert today and the Governor, Obiano is up to date with payment of salaries and leave allowances. he is not owing civil servants any thing according to my Mum who stays in Onitsha Anambra state with my dad

In a season and era where Osun, Benue, Ekiti, Rivers, Plataue And A host of other states are owing their civil servants and some of us on social media are defending them while blaming everything and anything on their behalf, hearing the news from Anambra gives a cause to cheer and demonstrated what is possible when a leader that thinks smart is in charge

It is not news that the revenue allocation shared among states have drastically reduced

O yes! it was in the news this morning that March allocation has further dropped to compare to what was shared in February, meaning that most state Governors would not pay salaries and fulfill their commitments next month before handover

Anambra state is not even among the top 10 revenue receiving states in Nigeria but yet Rivers that is among the top earners is owing their workers and Anambra is not owing

What Governor Willie Obiano is doing in Anambra state is simple: He blocked all the loopholes, aggressively increased his IGR to meet his wage bill of the state

Anambra IGR under Peter Obi was 500 Million Naira but today, it stands at 2 Billion Naira with ambitious plan to make it 10 Billion in the next two years

That is what good governance is all about and what Nigerian states need at this era, Oil prices is at the lowest peak

Nigeria wont make progress with our continue relaince on Oil sales and sharing of oil revenue

We have been moving in circle since 1966 when unitary government that depends on Lagos was introduced by late Ironsi and looking back from that year till now, not much progress have been made because we have refused to think and also Oil has turned to a curse rather than a blessing to us

It is undisputable that Nigeria experienced the best governance so far in our history from 1960 to 1966 when regions were independent from the center, there was no sharing of oil rents, the leaders in the region were smart enough and the progress they made were unrivaled and the structures they built then still stands true today of the eloquent visionary leadership that was in place then

I'm of the opinion that chronic debtors like Rauf Aregbesola and Governor Susuwam should please visit Obiano and ask him how he managed to achieve such feat which is commendable in this perilous time and what Obiano I know would tell them is this: He put on his thinking cap to aggressively increased his IGR which covered his wage bill while using Abuja allocation to do other things like building of schools and hospitals

As it stands now, Lagos and Anambra are the only two states that are up to date with paying of salaries and the Governors doing what their people elected them to do, .the other 34 states are blaming Abuja and fall in oil prices for their woes forgetting that what is happening to them is self inflicted and nothing more

Our Governors are the biggest danger and threat to our democracy but that should be a topic for another day

Anambra state should take that step of mandating every vehicle procured by the state government must be sourced from INNOSON.

Teaching the future engineers is just as important as sustaining the company to survive into the future by massive patronage.

In America or Germany, every car used by their government agencies are made in those countries.
Even Honda, Nissan and Toyota with huge assembly plants in USA has not swayed USA to use their vehicles for any government agency at Federal, State or LGA level. That is how a responsible government support it's own car manufacturing sector. Calling Oko Poly or Anambra university to come and watch the wonders of vehicle manufacturing at INNOSON without patronizing their products is counter intuitive.

The type of procurement in the first two pictures below should never happen again. We should use the IVM saloon cars if we really support INNOSON the way we swear that we do.

Anambra Floats New Mass Transit Firm

Anambra State Government has floated a new mass transport company called Anambra Mass Transit Limited. The firm is set to start operations with 21 TATA buses imported from India.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the new transport outfit, Mr. Goddy Nnagbogu told THISDAY in Awka after signing an understanding to brand the vehicles with a branding company, Panta Rei International, that the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano floated the company to address the challenges created by the now moribund Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS) which virtually depended on franchise for existence. Panta Rei will help source interested companies to display their products and or advertise same on the body of the vehicles.

“In the face of these challenges, Anambra State Government wanted an international, model transport system and had to create the mass transit company to take care of transport affairs in the state. We have started with 21 long TATA buses. The transport system was created to house the moribund TRACAS and Anambra Integrated Development Strategy (ANIDS) buses viable and productive,” he said.

The plan, he said, that all of them would be part of the new mass transit company.

The long buses he said are to shuttle all the 21 routes in the state’s three senatorial zones including but not limited to Awka-Onitsha, Awka–Nnewi, Awka-Ekwulobia, Awka–Otuocha, Awka- Ihiala and Uli, Onitsha-Ihiala and Uli, all within the state.

According to him, more buses are being expected to go into other routes, adding that the preference for TATA buses after a proper feasibility study is that they are strong and easy to maintain because of availability of spare parts.

He said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Panta Rei International was to brand the vehicles, and then attract companies to advertise on them.

According to him, it was another source of revenue for the company.

“By next week our vehicles will appear in different out looks. Panta Rei will brand our vehicles with different companies like Airtel, Hero Beer, banks and even brand our tickets and project us to the outside world”, he said.

He added that the fare per route is reduced by 50 percent in all routes.
A representative of Panta Rei International, Mr. Peter Nwagbogu told THISDAY that they were happy and eager to work with the mass transit company because it is a progressive minded organisation.
