It marvels me how a student in his /her right manners believe there are funny courses
*primary education : you think it is easy, why don't you call ur pilot to teach nursery pupils

Wow, making fun of early childhood. Hian no wonder we are clueless when it comes to dealing with kids with special needs or even identifying them

No wonder parents will be competing with other kids because they dont even understand their kids developmental stages.

No wonder some moronic teacher will ask classmates to boo a child who has challenges not considering the child may be visually impaired, have dyslexia or ADD heck no wonder we dont even know these terms.

No wonder we burn and beat kids to death claiming they are witches or members of secret society.

You are the ignorant one that should shut up. We as a society NEED practitioners in these fields. Desperately need them. Our problem is we employ anybody to do the jobs those who studied these courses should be doing. So they too do other people's jobs. The circle never ending

what you seem not to realise is that not all profession require a degree.

When you are paying for a degree you should get the value for your time and resources.
who decides in Nigeria which course should get a degree? A group of con men called NUC whom can be bribed to accredit any nonsense and decieve you that it is a degree course when in the real sense it is not, they know that ordinarily, you will not agree to pay for 4yrs if the end of the road isnt a degree.

Everything boils down to corruption, most vocational courses have become degree courses, you see private school s who in a bid to maximise profit set up those courses that have high ROI, they shy away from sciences because the infrastructures alone will overwhelm the school.
Justifying a product of corruption is safe to assume you did not even know how Nigeria landed in dis meess

Those are the lies your lecturers and course advisers use to make you feel good to continue paying school fees while you waste your years.

I saw your 62 likes, I have no doubt in my mind that a vast majority of under graduates here share the same sentiment.
How many of you before writing jambs actually called your uncles and cousins to inquire about the reality in their various offices?

It is only in Nigeria and probably most of the "charge and bail" west African colleges who tell their students "you can work anywhere" what a superfluous statement.

The moment you are admitted in an European or American university, your mission is defined.
I have said it before, 70% of unemployed Nigerians are people whose course have no bearing in the Nigerian labour market, 30% are probably guys who got unlucky and didn't get a good grade or yet to pass the employment test.

may experience teach you guys better.
Mr,u are ignorant of what u are saying, and 1 of the major problem of undergraduate this days is that they lack information.u just come online to say what u don't know, go and do research on those course and their prospective and come back to comment. Let me even give a scope of one of the research u will do, go to those top companies/organisation,emg UNO, check their recruitment advertisment and see if they reject those course in their recruitment exercise, then come back to comment

Most of the people bashing the Op are those who maybe they were giving those courses and had to accept it.

How many of them can rightly claim that they actually opted for PRIMARY EDUCATION in their Jamb Form? grin

And now they are saying the Op is ignorant undecided

The truth is that majority of nigerian jambites apply for professional courses not until the university will change it for them and give them something else. Many of them don't accept it,,some will stay for another year while others will accept the course and write jamb again.

Come to the university and see how many people are buying transfer forms to switch to a better department. Some will even still come back to study that course of their dreams after their first degree...

So what are you people on about

Fact is the ignorance started from our primary and secondary schools where we were made to believe that we had to only study professional courses.

I'm still looking for the young nigerian that put CHILD EDUCATION as his first course choice when writing his/her First jamb. Including those bashing the Op grin
Re: Funny Courses Offered By Nigerian Universities by here: 9:19am On Nov 01, 2014
They are not funny but very useful courses entailing some level of specialization. Most times its driven as a result of some of the requirements done abroad to certify certain individuals to work in their fields.Notice in places like Lagos, Abuja and PH where certain schools are collecting higher fees is as a result of having individuals with higher specialty in these areas unlike in general schools where children are bullied to learn
EARLY CHILDHOOD
Very useful as it prepares teachers to teach specific ages 3-5 some call it early years. Notice in real instance children are now driven to make children read at 6 instead of Nigerian case that is lazy and wants children to read at 9. This is like Cert III done in Australia which is a 6 months training

PRIMARY EDUCATION
This is for teachers taking 4- 11 years.

DRAMA
Let me quote diferencebetween dot com for difference between drama and theatre
Drama

Drama is a word that comes from Greek Dran, which means to do or perform. It literally means action. Drama has many forms and must be construed as a generic term taking on many forms, one of which is theater. The act or process of performing a play in front of an audience is dramatization. Drama can be an episode of life, such as 9/11, a section in a DVD library or a library of plays, or it can be a fiction full of emotions and conflicts.

Theater

Theater is the personification of a drama on stage. It requires space, individuals who play characters, and people who see the act (audience). Theater is a collective effort of many people, dramatist or a playwright, a director, actors, and technicians to make audience believe that whatever is happening on stage is real. Theater is a very important performing art, and with passage of time, it has taken many new forms such as television soap operas and even movies, where there are rehearsals and takes whereas, in the theater, there is no such facility for the performers.

I believe there is a difference in their curriculum and most people will never understand till you undertake both, that doesnt mean there might not be same courses undertaken

FISHERY.
Agro studies have developed into branches like engineering and others and no one can disqualify any our researches can prove is worth our time

ADULT EDUCATION
This is not only in Nigeria, most schools abroad who take it either makes you take a major thereby making you a specialist in that field for persons above primary(11yrs) and also most graduates of this also tend to dive into education management

HISTORY AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES EDU.
When the crises of South Africa was on, ANC supporters who went to Europe to study some majored in African Studies, can you explain to me why such course existed in Europe and had students? Until I see the graduates of these courses has no jobs then I can tell. But do you know some courses offered by UN to Asian guys are related to these and you find them in field offices all over the world

Students will acquire a basic overview understanding of how technology serves in the field of music as a whole and a working knowledge of the technological developments applicable to their area of specialization and degree program.

From Buffalo State
To provide opportunities for music majors to collectively and individually develop musical excellence and understanding through participation in a variety of musical ensembles, applied lessons, performance opportunities, coursework, and independent projects. The Music Department will explore expanded degree offerings in the area of Music Performance.
To engage music majors in learning experiences necessary for the development of professional-level musical skills and understanding. Learning experiences include those that develop technical proficiencies, grounding in the theoretical and historical traditions, and an understanding and appreciation of the profession and promote a disposition toward lifelong learning in music, music education, the liberal arts, and the humanities.

I understand most Nigerians who gain admission get to school because they were asked to or feel is what society wants and its been difficult getting people to understand studies help shape your skills and somehow you need to have a major and not just be a graduate
Hope this helps

The mentality of the OP is do archaic!!!
Jesus Christ!!!
You wish to tell me Drama is a joke?
If I had studied Drama, I will still go for related courses abroad to improve on my skills and specialty. Coming to Nigeria, I had team up with good upcoming young unknown actors to dramatise in theatres,Our Nigerian histories cultures and social happenings. That is when you see true drama and not this rubbish wevsee on TV with naked low grade actors/actresses.REVIVE THE THEATRES.LETS SEE THE HEAT ON THE BODIES OF ACTORS WHO INVOKE THE GODS.LET THE SUSPENSE AND STAGE DRUMS BEAT IN THE HEART OF THE SPECTATORS!LET THEM WEEP TO SEE CHARACTERS IN CHAINS,IN REAL TEARS,IN REAL PAINS.How about seeing REAL acting of our pre colonial time acted by braless females on stage showing real Passion, informative dialogues, beautiful and creative suspense with good lighting s.How about enacting our political history as a satire on live stage. It will definitely attract Elites in our society and that's good money!!!!If its good.

and a niggar spat about Drama as a useless course? where is my cane!!!!!

In some places Law is a second level of studies, you need to have had minimum 2 years of post secondary and pass LSAT or LNAT to show you can present a logical arguement(1 part of the exams though). Maybe he saw prospect in that. I can understand you never had chanced of being enlightend on the course like most persons but people even gain admission and finish the course only to discover they did the wrong course, thats why we say 1st degree is nothing, doesnt make you a specialist. Some know what they want and others have to pass through and figure out for themselves, neither is wrong

We need to realise that courses been downgraded here are excellent courses. The problem with Nigeria is that so many things are being done by non-professionals.Did you check out the qualifications of those who taught you in nursery and primary schools? If you attend a "private "nursery school, you were probably taught by a student with 3 credits still attempting NECO. Just look around the so-called private schools. You see so many deficiencies in writing and communication skills in offices today because people were not taught by professionals with degrees in "early education" and "primary education".There is more to education than 2 times 1,2.
