The struggle for US Visa

Really sad and absolutely pathetic what fellow Nigerians have to subject themselves to, when they live in denial. Nothing will ever make me go through these sort of things. Am I sick upstairs.

Mine is not about an experience , but for those of you willing to do anything to come to the states,do not try it if you do not have a valid reason to do so! If you want to run, trust me, you will be in hotter soup when you get here! I live here and I know this for a fact! the USA of today is a far cry from the USA of 10-20 yrs ago, a word is enough for the wise!
Pls dont warn them, let them all run to yankee. They will think you are an enemy of progress, experience is the best teacher.

I was there a week back around 6:30am. We all waited patiently for the first interview and hoped that if his/her visa was granted the goodluck would rub off on the rest of us....for where?

It was a lady and her interview took place in booth 7. She claimed that she was going to attend a seminar sponsored by a company she distributes for here in Nigeria. After the VO found her not eligible for the visa, he was about handing over her documents when the lady said, "Oga, please hold on to it, my interview can't be over". Then VO repeated that "you are ineligible", while he was saying this, the lady keep on explaining how many clients she has, how much she makes... vo repeated himself, Lady also repeated her self. At that point everyone laughed so hard. The lady left a few seconds later.

My own unusual experience.

Same day as above. While waiting in line outside, I discovered that I was feeling some fresh air around my toes, on both feet. When I looked down, the sole of my shoe was coming off from the front. Horror!!! I've not even entered the Consulate yet. Why me? With each step I took, more of the sole was coming off, got to a point I couldn't lift my feet to walk, I dragged them, I was already in the interviewing area at this point.

I kept on praying for this little incidence not to cause any visa denial. It didn't. After it was approved, I majestically walked out with half of the sole of my shoe gone. When people waiting outside saw me, there laughed, and I thought within myself......"dey laugh me, make you no go face your own interview"
. You just made me laugh in swahili. grin

I remember how they denied a girl that won visa lottery. I used to think it was automatic ! She came from Ibadan and she actually looked like someone selling vegetables in the market. She came with a guy she claimed was her husband or boyfriend . it was obvious she was not educated but she said she had HND and she is an Economics teacher or so. The VO just asked her to define economy of a nation na there wahala started o !!!! The guy she brought sef looked like an arrangee !! I was shocked when the VO said you are not qualified for the visa..she didn't even show any reaction, they both left !

There was this other old ibo woman o, when they gave her visa she just bursted out in a loud Ibo praise song !!! We all started laughing !!!

There was this fine young lady next to me, she won visa lottery, when she saw that they denied the other " HND" holder, she said she was just going to say she had OND. I asked why she isn't with any arranged husband, she said her boyfriend left her few days before she discovered she won a visa lottery! I wished my brother was around me, we for do wedding for both of them ceremony for interview room! Lol!

All the old women were given visas and women with babies.

Ok , you will all want to ask about mine, it was a family based IV status so there was no stress,

Well, sometimes,

EbolaParasite:

If that were the case, we wouldn't have so many denials. There are people with legitimate reasons that get denied so spare me.
If the VO's actually used documents and stuff, so many won't be denied. A lot of times they deny simply based on perception.
Explain this situation, a female friend applied for a visa and got denied without being asked anything except why are you going to the U.S. She said she wanted to go on vacation. She applied again 4 weeks after and got approved with the same answer. No document was checked the first time. The second time the new VO asked to look at her documents. She just returned to Nigeria after her 2week vacation last month. Why do you think the first officer denied her?

One thing many visa applicants don't know is the US embassy already performs inside background checks on visa applicants and suggest approval/denial way before the interview date. For some applicants with suggested approval, the interview process will just be formalities and the grant will be brief and quick with the VO asking you for little or no documents whatsoever, leaving you wondering at the magic that just occurred. The VO has the final say though. For some with already suggested denial, the VO will try their best to give a fair interview, and for such applicants they would have to work extra hard to impress the VO otherwise, and make the VO overturn the suggested denial already hanging over the applicant's profile. The VO is sort of the final judge and the interview itself the final court case where the applicant has to prove himself not 'guilty as charged'. During visa interviews, once your profile comes up there are past records of your previous visa interviews, if any, and/or comments/notes left on your profile suggesting likely outcomes.
That's partially untrue. But I only agree with you based on previous VO's comment for past denial on particular applicant.

What nonsense! I pray throughout my life, i never have to beg someone for the chance to enter another country. I love Nigeria to a fault and i'm not freaked about anywhere else. If i really need to travel somewhere else, for school perhaps, i still wouldn't beg anybody...i'd rather forget about that school.

Truth be told... US visa is one of the easiest visa to get. If you have a good reason to go to us, your visa application will be granted. One pointer I noticed is that they prefer certain category of people to enter ie people with ties in US that already av proper jobs, professionals etc. I applied for a visa first time this year and had a very interesting conversation (didn't seem like an interview) with the VO, and I was immediately given my visa. My travel reason was simply vacation, told him I didn't know anyone in us and I haven't decided the tour package or hoteli will be staying. It was a funny experience cos I heard many funny reasons other people gave and in my mind I already knew dey will be denied
