Why do you Nigerians worship anything foreign? Boko haram is also a terrorist organisation present in 4 African countries. Why is Egypt not fighting them now so that they don't spread through to Egypt?
You are talking about ISIS spreading to Niger and Chad before coming here, but they will need to cover the whole of Libya first! As it is now they only occupy a small part of Libya very far from the bother with Chad and Niger. Boko haram on the other hand, are already present in those 2 countries (Chad and Niger), why is Egypt not fighting them yet?
If Egypt were a border country close to Nigeria, they would have been part of the regional force to fight Boko Haram. But they're not. So, Nigeria is restricted to team up with Border countries to tackle Boko Haram.
Boko Haram and IS may be similar in their operations and approach in carving out territories for themselves but ISIS is much more deadly because they're rich and well armed with sophisticated American weapons. Plus they control almost half of Iraq. Remember Iraq is an oil producing country.
The Nigerian President is already pushing for an African security outfit through regional Associations and the African Union to fight Terrorism as a whole. When this plan comes to light, Boko Haram, IS, Alshabab and other terrorist groups would be dealt with simultaneously.

This people are not serious, since when we needed help with Boko haram where were they? now they want to use our head so that we will help them fight there own demons while our own demons hunt us. when will we learn in this country! USA is against GEJ because he refused to comply with there gay rights, because of that they refused to sell arms to Nigeria. Even John Kerry had the guts to come to Nigeria and told Nigerians that if we don't behave during elections that Visas will not be granted our citizens. Seriously we need to know our enemies and allies

That will be a reasonable contribution, but I think an AU-led response will be the best possible outcome rather than Nigeria going to spook ISIS alone, this might hasten their aggression towards Nigeria.

Every AU member country needs to bring something to the table because no country is safe, ISIS are bent on establishing a caliphate so it's up to Africa to fight them as one or every man for himself.

In the meantime, Nigeria needs to meet with its neighbouring countries and figure out how to protect themselves at home.
Either AU or not, Nigeria is a little pawn in the fight against IS. We should ask the question, why has the rich middle eastern nations like Saudi, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Oman etc not formed an ally yet and join the fight against IS?
Are they not neighbours with Syria and Iraq (Where IS has established bases)? Are they not sameMuslim brothers? Are they not same Arabs?

These rich arab countries have the ground troops and ammunition to combact IS from within. Why the silence?

Sub-sahara Africa has no business interfering in the IS crisis.. We shouldn't chew more than we can swallow.. We don't want those animals on our doorstep.. Its a mid eastern problem, they should deal with it

Has there ever been PEACE....... without JUSTICE? NEVER!

Its okay to be pro-active, collaborative, e.t.c but.......

And this is a big "BUT".

Until we go to the root of INJUSTICE which propagates this sort of terrorist ideology, we will simply be fighting a NEVER ENDING WAR because "ideological war" are like Religious wars, they NEVER leave the mind of the "infested".

Since Nairaland is not a platform for "serious discussions", l will simply state some of these "issues" without going into necessary details:

1.) Double standards in American Policy (Saudi Arabia, Qwait, UAE are some of the worst Terrorist sponsors on earth but because of what the U.S gets from these fanatically Islamist nations, it is willing to look the other way, while bombing less favoured Nations). America need to be fair to all Nations, as the most powerful nation right now

2.) American Exceptionalism: America seems to think it has the right, simply because it has the Power/Weapons, to march rough-shod over other sovereign nations and cause chaos in them. It thinks its different and better than everyone else Not true sha.

3.) Archaic Islamic Leaders/Imams: Some centuries back, Christian-teachings (Old Testament stuffs) was almost as barbaric as Islamic teachings are, TODAY but Christian leaders have "RESOLVED" to ignore the very barbaric pronouncements found in the Old testament, to preach and lay emphasis on LOVE AND FORGIVENESS. 4
MUSLIMS in General and their Islamic Teachers must undergo such "Mental paradigm shift" and start preaching ONLY the good sides found in the Quaran. They need to modernise their beliefs otherwise it is no longer "fit" in a modern world.

4.) JUSTICE in the Israeli/Palestinian Apartheid situation needs to be addressed IMPARTIALLY! America is the main stumbling block to world peace in this regard. The more people see how the U.S gives "terroristically-blind support" to Israel, while the Muslim Nation of Palestine gets hammered with American weapons, there is hardly anything anyone can tell Muslims (in general) about Peace, that would enter and stay within their brain. We have to Practice what we Preach because charity begins at home. Mark my words, there wil NEVER be Peace worldwide, until Palestinians have their own "justified Homeland" and can live as free people

5.) The U.N must free itself of Jewish-American imperialism and begin to perform its role of "impartial mediator" in world affairs, nibbling conflicts at the bud, before they become full blown war.

6.) Parents generally, especially in the "West" must be allowed to inculcate "morality" into their Children (You might wonder how it is that a lot of Western-born kids are into this ISIS thingy in the last 15yrs? undecided Government must let parents be Parents, with the responsibility of ensuring that Parents train their children in the way that would give them rest. Full Responsibility must be allowed and given to Parents while they should also be held responsible for their childrens actions

7.) Finally, Hunger and Poverty must be addressed world wide! A situation where some countries are dying of "Constipation" while those is some other countries can barely have a meal a day is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Giant Corporations must not be allowed to determine who eats and who starves. Food should be movable from areas of surplus to areas of shortages. I live on both side of the divide and l know what goes on when it comes to destruction of food while others cant find food to eat.
Poverty as a result of underdevelopment of countries especially in Middle East and Africa, must be stopped. Basic necessities like Power, Agriculture, Roads must be deliberately encouraged and developed in these countries, to reduce poverty. Everything necessary must be done without recourse to using such things as a bargaining chip to foster wicked economic regimes like SAP and Austerity measures on poorer nation.

This is my own 7-Point Agenda for world Peace! grin

When we do all the above or at least most of it, which accounts for like 90% of conflicts worldwide, we can unequivocally CRUSH the stubborn ones who will never be anything good to Humankind.... without thinking twice. cheesy

WAKE UP! WAKE UP!! WAKE UP!!!

Jeez, l finally woke-up! unfortunately, Its never gonna happen. The Powerful are full of wickedness!
The only feasible solution is "SELF DESTRUCTION"..... and we are very close to it
.

When we've not been able to contain BH threat?

I've listened to enough news to know that they go after countries that come after them and Nigeria just can't swing that right now.
well even if Nigeria do not go to intervane in Lybia AU should not fold its hands and watch.

ISIS, ISIL & BH has a meeting point which is Islamic agenda. Somehow they exchange information on inteligence & also help in training & mobilisation of the weaker side.

With the result we are geting now over BH, I think it will be wise for Nigeria to get ready so that we dont get taken unaware...

papaejima1:
The Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Ashrat Salama, has called on Nigeria and the Africa Union (AU) to collaborate against the terrorist group, Islamic State and ensure the establishment of a multi-national force against it.

This, he said, is necessary to ensure that the terrorist group does not spread on the continent.

Speaking against the backdrop of air strikes recently carried out on IS targets in Libya by the Egyptian Air Force, Salama told journalists in Abuja monday that contrary to the propaganda by IS, no civilian was killed in the offensive.

Egypt carried out the offensive on IS training schools and ammunition storage in Libya in retaliation for the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians by the group.

Salama particularly noted that it was necessary for Nigeria to work with Egypt to combat the terrorist group because both nations are not far from each other.

Both nations, he added, could also lead the call for a multi-national force on the continent as powerful voices in the AU.

“Nigeria is already achieving results with the multi-regional force with Chad, Cameroun and Niger, so we need something like this as we are dealing with similar issues,” he urged.

Although Egypt is ready to work to secure the region, the matter of IS is a bigger issue, he added.

“We can do this by sharing information, mobilising forces, co-ordinating strategies, form a coalition from the AU to be supervised by a multi-task force. If you do not support the fight against the terror group because it is not in your country, before you realise it, it could be in your neighbourhood,” he said.

The envoy added that to be nonchalant about IS is like shutting one’s door against fire.

“It is too big for Egypt alone, you cannot go just because you are provoked, you have to plan well. We must not give a chance to these terrorists,” he added.

This is a very good idea... If we don't go to Libya to get them, after several years of training in Libya with Libya's vast state infrastructure, ISIS will be formidable enough to start spreading rapidly across Africa. With their striking success in Iraq, most African states with their fledgling armies will be of no match.. Tackling ISIS in Libya NOW is the best way forward... But again is the Americans going to like that? ISIS is a very good destabilizing force. And the destabilization of Africa fits Americas foreign policy drives.., so?

Destabilisation of Africa fits America's foreign policy drive?

Care to explain what policy that the Americans have that encourages terrorism overseas and continually puts their homeland under the threat of attack? Can you provide the explanation rationally without including elements of conspiracy theories too? Thanks

LOL. Even though i don't want our troops on the ground in Libya because of the complicated nature of that country. We could support in terms of logistics and finance but your suggestion of mining and digging trench on our Northern border is a military blonder. It would make your troop fixed and slow in case of a fast attack. This is the tatics France used during world war2 and we know how the german defeated them in less than 3 month.

Even financial and logistical support make we no gree abeg.

Ordinarily, I think that Nigeria should say yes to this proposal but Mr. Jonathan has let our military get overworked and overwhelmed by little boko haram because of his indecision, lack of firmness, lack of vision and lack of presidential authority. Pres.Jonathan refused to fight boko haram for 5+ years and because elections came up, he decided to start fighting them on the week of the elections thereby even postponing elections. Ordinarily, we have the capabilities to fight alongside Egypt to keep the entire region clear of this terrorist acts but right now I don't know if we can afford that....all because of our federal government's slow approach to fighting boko haram in the first place. Why I think it would have been a great idea to fight I.S. alongside Egypt is that the earlier the fight, the earlier they are cleared off the continent. Africa(especially Nigeria) cannot afford to see another example of how late approach to tackling these terrorists can make them stronger. We(Africans) cannot afford to only be reactionary the way pres.Jonathan had been in the fight against boko haram. We need to fight them off even from a distance otherwise, they might come to us.
