For all practical purposes, even though the results are still being collated, I am deeply convinced that General Buhari will win this election by a very comfortable margin.

It is also my believe that President Jonathan will graciously concede defeat in a very mature and rancour free manner. He will not contest the results in court even though his acolytes and party men will stridently want him to. I believe, GEJ does not want to leave office looking like a sore loser.

Having said all these, it is safe to say that the 2015 Presidential Elections has been won and lost.

The elections are over!!!

What then will be the likely composition of General Buhari's cabinet? From keen observations of Buhari's campaign organisation, Buhari's utterances during the campaigns, and the actions and activities of various key actors in Gen Buhari's camp, I believe the following will either be in his cabinet or play key roles in his government.

It is obvious from Buhari's utterances during the campaigns that he will run a government whose policy direction and key economic decisions will be dictated by " a team". He kept harping on this.

The possible names are:

• Dr Kayode Fayemi (former governor of Ekiti State)
• Senator Olorunimbe Mamora (he vacated his senate seat for Remi Tinubu, Sen Tinubu's wife)
• Gov Raji Babatunde Fashola
• Abike Dabiri (former member House of Representatives)
• Baba Ahmed (former Ambassador, and former INEC Secretary)
• Gov Rotimi Amaechi
• Gov Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso (he is contesting a senatorial seat, but could likely accept a cabinet post)
• Prince Tonye Princewill (LP governorship candidate in Rivers State)
• Ben Akubueze (former MD NAL Merchant Bank, and Hon Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos State)
• Dr Adesina Akinwumi (Minister of Agriculture in Jonathan’s cabinet)
• Dr Chris Ngige (senator, and former governor of Anambra State)
• Oby Ezekwesili
...tell me you're kidding, anyway you wrote likely....

Lmao at folks touting names of utter failures who have occupied different positions in the past and failed miserable - yet they wonder why the country is stuck in abyss.

Apart from Fashola, Amaechi, Fayemi, Edo gov, and Rochas who fought on the frontline - the rest need to sit on twitter and keep giving speeches.

A country of 160 million heads should have more than enough technocrats around the world who can effect visible changes - despite how structurally deformed the country is.

Anyone who has been a Minister before, or part of previous government turned critic shouldn't even be considered. Stop recycling the same darn loquacious intellectual frauds!!

Guy, your comment is quite funny.

But on a more serious note, if an Igbo man can do the job , I'm sure the GMB/PYO government will not mind coopting him/her after all Amaechi is an Igbo man who has worked tirelessly for the victory of the APC.

Dr Akinwumi Adesina deserves a seat in any cabinet of any government in this country. He is the only positive from Jonathan's administration as he single handedly transformed our agricultural sector

Okonjo-Iweala and Allison Madueke can never be in Buhari's government. Haba, bros!! How is that one is even possible?

Fashola will definitely play a key role in Buhari's. For him, I will even hazard a guess that he will be the Secretary to Federal Government (SGF)

Some people on that list will only be relevant if Buhari is only interested in tribal and partisan politics. He needs fresh and capable faces to drive this nation forward.

Unless there's someone way better, he really should keep Jonathan's Agric Minister.

Totally agree with you. Out of all the Ministers in GEJ's govt Akinwumi Adesina (Agric Minister) and Segun Aganga (Min for Trade & Investment) stood out like bright lights. It felt strange to think that goats like Abba Moro and Devils-Day Orubebe sat in the same cabinet with these fine gentlemen.

Just looking at Akinwumi reminds me of Fashola. It will be a shame to loose a guy like that.

I struggled to come up with names of seasoned technocrats from core North. Guys lets throw names of good people, preferably young and energetic, from the North on the table.

Say what you know about them. Because there will be intense pressure on Buhari to give key, and sensitive positions to Northerners as well. And now he has the added albatross that his appointees must be performers and must have high integrity. To make Buhari's job even tougher, the precedent has been set by OBJ and GEJ to appoint more women into key positions.

Certainly there are many of them out there. After all, if GEJ did not appoint Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as CBN Governor, we would never have known him.

Also if Atiku did not bring Nasir El-Rufai into BPE we would not know him.

A bit unlikely due to some political calculations of Federal Character, as the vice president is already from SW.

Other key positions will need to be filled by the other 4 geo-political zones, such as: Senate President, HOR Speaker, SGF, etc.

I just hope they can find a very prominent and pivotal role for Fashola. He is an astute planner and executor. If he had the kind of free hand he desired, Lagos could have been even better than it is today.

I see Fashola one day becoming the President of this country.

Unfortunately, every state governor is empowered to nominate 2 ministers (one senior and one junior) that the president sends to the senate for clearance. If PDP repeats last weekend's abracadabra in Rivers state during the gubernatorial elections, then Amaechi will have to reconcile with the next Rivers governor or find another state of origin before he can be a minister.
Re: Likely Composition Of General Buhari's Cabinet by Nobody: 2:14am On Apr 02, 2015
@Rhea: If Wike wins the gubernatorial election, the Rivers state APC chairman would then nominate the Rivers representative in the cabinet. That's how it was done in the OBJ era.

You need a very meticulous, organised, and tireless worker to hold the position of SGF. Fashola fits this bill.

The office of the SGF is the engine room of the Presidency. You need a trusted, loyal party man who understands the workings of government and has indepth knowledge of the visions and manifesto of the party.
Guy, what are u saying!?The office of SGF is more like an unknown office to me. When last did u hear of the present SGF(pius ayim). Fashola should be given the portfolio of minister of power and steel. That sector is just too critical for nigeria economic development. BRF is very articulate, open, intelligent, sincere, and a goal getter. To top it, a no nonsense with the fear of god. He shouldnt be assigned to an office where his edffort is rarely noticed. The power sector is very, very, very, very!!!!!!!!! Key to our dream of becoming an econimic power again in africa and globally. HE IS THE PERFECT MAN FOR THAT JOB!!!!!I will not forgive GMB if that portfolio is given to someone else.
