Military Kill 49 Boko Haram Terror Suspects, Rescue 154 Captives in Borno

Troops of the Nigerian Army yesterday killed 49 terror suspects with the rescue of 154 captives after the Boko Haram insurgents ambushed the soldiers on patrol along the 54 kilometre Pulka-Bama road in Borno state.

Briefing newsmen on Thursday on the ongoing military operations at the media centre, Maiduguri, the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Yusha’u Abubakar disclosed that several arms and
ammunition were also recovered, after the insurgents were repelled in a two-hour fierce gun battle.

“The Boko Haram insurgents lay ambush on our soldiers along Pulka, Bama, Maiduguri axis where they swiftly repelled the attack, killing 15 insurgents, while 10 AK 47 rifles, an RPG and other ammunitions.

Also in their routine patrol our men killed 34 insurgents, recovered 15 AK 47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the Jakana-Alagarno axis,” said Abubakar yesterday.

He however noted: “It is sad to announce the loss of one officer and a soldier; while discharging the national duties, also at a check point along Mafa Maiduguri axis our men incepted three female suicide bombers trying to infiltrate Maiduguri, where one of them detonated her own; killing herself and a member of Civilian JTF, four others
were also injured.

He said the troops have already degraded the Boko Haram insurgents that were why they were fleeing. They also unleashed their terrorists’ activities on soft targets in remote villages; like the recent ones in Warawaa, Mangari and other villages, stressing that the military is adopting new strategies to deal with such terror attacks.

“The Army is not only discharging its constitutional mandate; but also assist the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) with relief materials and medical services,” he said, adding that philanthropists, individuals and cooperate organisations should assist the IDPs including the 154 rescued captives.

He said security is a collective business and solicits the support and cooperation of the media and individuals to successfully defeat the insurgents.

NEW THEATRE COMMANDERS FOR OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE APPOINTED

The Defence Headquarters has restructured the Operation Lafiya Dole in the North East to reposition it for more efficiency, effectiveness and combat readiness in the discharge of its assigned tasks of crushing the remnant of terrorists.

Consequently, a new Theatre Commander has been appointed. He is Major General Hassan Umoru.  Until his appointment, General Umoru was the General Officer Commanding, 3 Division Nigerian Army.  Also appointed is the Deputy Theatre Commander who is Major General Lucky Irabor.  The changes are part of the reorganisation by the Defence Headquarters in line with the force restructuring of its operations to attain the overall objectives of the Chief of Defence Staff.

The aim of this new development is to restrategise and inject new tactics to the existing operational procedures with the aim of finally knocking out the terrorists who now devised means of hitting soft targets through suicide bombings and isolated attacks on remote villages.

Operation Lafiya Dole will continue to be responsive until all elements of terrorists are finally crushed.

Below is a picture of Major General Hassan Umoru

For now, I don't think so.....?

Like I told you a couple months back, not all of the 2000 soldiers were acquitted and re-instated into the Army, a good number of them were jailed or sentenced to death.

The death sentences by firing squad passed on 66 soldiers in
January and March 2015 by separate General Court Martials
have been commuted to 10 years imprisonment each.
It will be recalled that 71 soldiers were arraigned on several
charges in joint trials. The soldiers were arraigned on
several count charges that include Criminal Conspiracy,
Conspiracy to commit mutiny, Mutiny, Attempt to Commit an
Offence (Murder), Disobedience to Particular Orders,
Insubordinate Behaviour and False Accusation, amongst
others.
They were tried, discharged on some charges but found
guilty and convicted on other charges which included
mutiny. Out of the number, 66 were found guilty on some of
the count charges and sentenced to death, while 5 were
discharged and acquitted and 1 was given 28 days
Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL).
However, following series of petitions, the Chief of Army
Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, ordered a
legal review of the cases. The directive was carried out to
examine the merit of each case. It was on the basis of the
review and recommendations that the Chief of Army Staff
commuted the death sentences of the 66 soldiers to 10
years jail term. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The cases of other soldiers are being reviewed and will be
made public once the appropriate reviews are completed
Thank you.

Police release list of most wanted terror suspects in Kenya

The Kenyan security agencies have this year released the names and profiles of the most wanted terrorists and criminals in Kenya. The public is urged to provide information regarding their whereabouts but are warned that they are armed and dangerous.

Among the list is notorious Abdifatah Abubakar Abdi aka Musa Muhajir, a Somali citizen who had been earlier deported having been illegally staying in the Coast. Abdifatah alongside his other associates Abdalla Muumin Abdalla, Suleiman Mohamed Awadh, Abdalla Siraj Marum, Mohamed Ali Ahmed and Hussein Said Omar are wanted for the roles they played in the Mpeketoni attacks.

Hussein Said Omar alias Babli is the younger brother of fugitive Ahmed Said Omar alias Dogo who was also involved in the Mpeketoni attacks.

Issa Abdalla Ahmed and Abdikadir Abubakar Abdikadir, both former residents of Malindi, are wanted following their disappearance in November 2014 from their home to join Al Shabab in Somalia together.

Issa Abdalla Ahmed alias Kauni is a 24 year old who was employed as a driver for about six months prior to his travels according to his parents.

Issa was educated at Sir Ali bin Salim Primary school in Malindi before proceeding to Malindi Progressive Secondary School. Abdikadir is the brother to Khadijah Abubakar Abdikadir, one of the three young women charged in Court following their arrest in El-Wak in March 2015 after they tried to travel to Somalia to join Al-Shabaab.

Anwar Yogan Mwok and Omar Patroba Juma alias Patroba Juma Owiti are both wanted for their involvement in the June 2015 failed attack on a KDF base in Baure, Lamu County. Anwar Yogan Mwok is a former Mathare United Football Club player.

He was born in 1981 in Siaya and raised as Christian before converting to Islam and later joining Al Shabaab in 2013. Reports indicate that Anwar owns a significant amount of property in Umoja, some of which, it is suspected, he has disposed of and the proceeds used to finance Al Shabaab activities in Kenya.

Anwar has also been involved in recruiting youth in Umoja. Anwar grew up in Nairobi and is facilitating Kenyan youth from Eastlands to join Al Shabaab. Omar Patroba Juma, also born in Siaya County, is about 33 years old.

He is the husband to wanted female terrorist Shamim Wanjiru Hussein. He lived in Umoja before joining Al Shabaab in 2013.

Ismael Mohamed Shosi alias Ismael Mmanga is a member of Al Shabaab hailing from Malindi and having resided in Mombasa. He is wanted over assassinations and armed robberies in various locations along the Coast. He is notably wanted over the killing of Sheikh Mohamed Idriss, who was the chairman of CIPK Mombasa branch and other Muslim clerics.

He is also the main suspect in the killing of CID Mohamed Ibrahim, in old Town, Mombasa on March 25 2015. His close associates are Mahir Khalid Riziki, Hamisi Mwacheti aka Rasta aka Bilal and Abubakar Majani. He is alleged to be dressing up in a buibui while conducting his criminal activities.

Police express gratitude to the public who have been providing information on dangerous elements that has led to arrests and increased security in our communities.

With this release, Police urge the public to provide any information regarding these wanted individuals to the nearest Police Station or by calling 999.

Nigerian Army Repels Dawn Raid by Insurgents in Borno

Boko Haram militants suffer heavy casualties in attack, Nigerian president ordered defeat of insurgency by year-end

Nigerian soldiers killed more than 20 insurgents in the north-east state of Borno on Saturday.
The militants attacked the town of Buratai, home of the head of the military, Tukur Buratai, in a dawn raid, according to Yusuf Abdullahi, a member of a local paramilitary group.
The insurgents suffered heavy casualties, Abdullahi said by phone. More than 20 were killed, while many others sustained injuries, he said.
Borno is the birthplace of Boko Haram, which has killed tens of thousands of people since it began a campaign in 2009 to impose its version of Islamic law on parts of Nigeria. President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered security forces to end the insurgency by the end of the month.
