US donates 24 special war vehicles to Army
January 7, 2016

As part of its promise to help Nigeria fight the Boko Haram insurgency, the United States will donate 24 mine-resistant and armor-protected vehicles to the Nigerian Army on Thursday (today).

The vehicles, which are valued at $11m, would be handed over to the military authorities at the Nigerian Army 9th Brigade Parade Ground, Ikeja Army Cantonment in Lagos on Thursday (today).

This was contained in a statement by the Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate General Lagos on Wednesday.

The statement reads, “The US is pleased to donate 24 Mine-Resistant, Armor-Protected (MRAP) vehicles valued at $11m to Nigeria’s military authorities.

“The equipment donation represents part of the continuing US commitment to Nigeria and its neighbours to counter Boko Haram’s senseless acts of terror and promote regional security.”

Army kills 101, arrests 21 Boko Haram members

The General Officer Commanding I Mechanised Division, Army Headquarters, Kaduna, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade on Wednesday confirmed that army has in the last six months of various operations arrested 21 Boko Haram sect members at various locations within the north west zone.
General Oyebade also disclosed that over 101 bandits were killed in their operations and over 103 various types of weapons where recovered‎ while over 200 camps were destroyed.
Though he disclosed that in the course of the operations the army equally lost 6 soldiers and 10 were critically wounded while several others sustained various degrees of injuries with ‎two others still missing in action.
Oyebade who revealed this to newsmen at the 1 Division Army Headquarters, while briefing on the activities and successes recorded within the north west zone in the last six months, maintained that the Nigerian Army has vowed to deal decisively with any group which under any guise attempt to threaten the peace and security within the zone.
Speaking on the update on the clash between the army and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria also known as the Shi’ite sect, the GOC stressed that the Nigerian Army holds dearly the sanctity of life in securing the territorial integrity of Nigeria and Nigerians.
“We make no apologies to any group that threatens the peace and security of the land and will not hesitate to put such group to check.
“Nigerian Army has no issue with the Shi’ite group which is like any other group in the land. But if any group chooses not to obey the law of the land or challenge the authority, it means that that group does not value the sanctity of life and integrity of the land,” he stated.
He however said the clashes between the sect and the army was avoidable, but said the military has issues with those who create state within the state, adding “Our rule of engagement is to address any threat ‎before it becomes a full blown challenge, and any group that chooses to be violent in nature must be dealt with squarely.”
While disclosing that the army considers the assassination attempt on the Chief of Army more of an attempt on the president, he said the sect carried out a wave of attacks and the troops had to defend themselves.
On the whereabouts of the sect leader, the GOC informed that “El-Zakzaky is safe, secure and undergoing sound medical care. Every other detainee has been handed over to the appropriate security agency of government, no detainee is currently with the military.”
General Oyebade called on all groups and Nigerians at large to be law abiding and ensure that law and order is maintained at all times

That's the Igirigi.

What we now know as the Igirigi, is designed by engineers of the Nigerian army and Streit group Nigeria. The vehicle is built on a Ford F-150 chassis. The final product is a J.V, however it's the intellectual property of Nigeria.

Every export of the Igirigi by Streit Nigeria has to receive the blessing of the Nigerian army.

There's no need to be confused.

THE MRAPS DONATED TO NA WILL NEED SPARE PART BEFORE THEY CAN BE OPERATIONAL. shocked shocked

Presenting the armoured vehicles worth N2.2 billion to the army in Lagos, the representative of the US government, Patrick Doyle said The equipment needed to be serviced and fixed with good spare parts before they could start operating.

“The repairs of the vehicle is up to the Nigerian government to do; they can repair them on their own if they have the facility to do that, but of course, the spare parts are very particular to this vehicle and we have been in discussion with the army previously and we are working out the modalities of how we will get those parts to them.

“They will have to order those parts from the United States and we will work out those conditions.

“Nigeria is also in the process of receiving eight more of this vehicle through the same programme, which is called the excess defence article program, designed to transfer excess US military equipment to partner nation.

The US representative said the vehicles were been given to the Nigeria Army because the US no longer have need for them.

“We are getting rid of the vehicle and the reason we have the Excess Defence Article Programme is that we are downsizing forces in our military. We have left Iraq with our forces and we have downsized our forces out of Afghanistan; we do not need all these vehicles anymore, so Nigeria asked for this vehicles and we gladly provided them,” he said.

Speaking with newsmen, Barry Ndiomu, a General representing the chief of army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai said the equipment will help in protecting Nigerian troops fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the north-eastern part of the country.

“The MRAP equipment will protect our troops, especially against the menace of improvised explosive devices, without any doubt it will help. It will also help us to move the men in a manner in which we will probably have less or fewer casualties.

“We have our own technical outfit, the Nigerian army electrical maintenance engineers; they have workshop which is the SVP plant in Bauchi.

“The vehicles will be moved there as soon as possible, they will make the necessary assessment and I believe with the ongoing discussions with our American partners, the spear parts should be made available and they will be repaired,” he said.

It seems the mag pouch was made from our new camo

(made in Nigeria), it's pretty decent, and would make a

lot of sense if the defense budget meant for kitting

was spent internally developing local industries

Pretty impressive and creative, we should see a lot of improvement on our troops gear in the north eastern frontlines.

Army Rescued 3,000 Civilians, Military Sources Confirm

According to Nigerian army sources, soldiers have liberated 3,000 people from areas under the control of Boko Haram on Wednesday. It was also confirmed that the military killed at least two terrorists during this operation.

According to the military source, the thousands of civilians were held under the control of militants in villages around Dikwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State.

He noted that the Army Headquarters Strike Group responsible for the liberation of those civilians was engaged in a fierce gun battle with terrorists on Wednesday in Kudel and Kawari villages, which are about 11 kilometers from Dikwa town.

This source also told our correspondent that the liberated citizens looked malnourished and had very little strength. He added that most of those rescued were women, children, and elderly men.

He also disclosed that they have been screened by both the military and Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) and have since been placed in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Dikwa where more than 50,000 people currently reside.

It was also learned that some terrorists were killed when soldiers were returning to Maiduguri from Dikwa.
