Nope these barracks is 20 seconds drive away from the barracks. Even the Military at the Barracks were hearing the Gunshots and voices of these dudes

The Boko guys chased the Military at the town entrance checkpoint.
It doesn't even make sense, how the hell do these people still drive around in convoy in a local government that is crawling with thousands of soldiers and other security forces?, So bold to march straight to the gate of a barrack and taunt the military without getting wasted instantly?.

Sometimes,I don't want to believe what I am hearing.

The war will never end because of the mentality of the majority of contributors here. They are contented with posting the same lame pictures they've been posting for 5 year's while the country is tearing apart. God help you if you dare make any attempt to discuss the issue, they will say take the issue to Abuja and don't derail. The lethargic attitude of the government to the security of lives and properties borders on criminal. Boko Haram now stands shoulder to shoulder with the Nigerian army, attacking well fortified military bases at will , the military is stretched too thin to near breaking point..and because the violence and death is localized only in the northeast nobody cares, to them.its fantasy. Soon they will graduate from attacking bases to encroaching down south and the government's approach to the war will still not change. This country is at the precipes of falling off the cliff. By the time we experience first hand the consequence of those at the helm of affairs turning the war into a multi billion dollar enterprise, when herdesmen grow in sufficient numbers to start their massacre down south, when bombs are exploding, people getting kidnapped and the nation descend into full blown civil war with sokdiers deserting an mass and a compilsory military draft instituted, then we will know how ridiculous it was for us to make excuses for the corruption just so we can continue looking at pictures.

Nigerian soldiers 'free kidnap kingpin from police'

Police have a list of the most-wanted kidnappers, which includes Alhaji Hamisu

Nigerian soldiers have freed a notorious "kidnap kingpin" in the north-eastern state of Taraba, police say.

Three officers and a civilian were shot dead by soldiers who attacked a police unit transporting suspect Alhaji Hamisu to the regional police headquarters.

The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) officers "were shot at severally by the soldiers despite sufficient proof that they are police personnel on legitimate duty", the police posted on its Twitter account.

Mr Hamisu has been on the police's wanted list for several high-profile kidnap cases that includes a recent abduction where a ransom of about $275,293 (£226,478) was paid.

The army said its troops mistook the policemen for kidnappers after they "refused to stop at military checkpoints".

Army spokesman Col Sagir Musa is quoted in Punch newspaper

as saying that the police opened fire, prompting soldiers to return fire.

He made no mention of what had happened to the "kidnap kingpin".

Kidnapping for ransom is rampant across Nigeria and security operatives have been accused of not doing enough to track down the kidnap gangs.

Soldiers often complain of poor allowances and diversion of funds by their superiors.

Two weeks ago, the army said it was investigating reports that some soldiers absconded with more than $1m (£800,000) of operational funds they were escorting in the country's north-west.

Is this true?

Yes, it's all over the news. The police is claiming that the army opened fire and released the suspect, while the army is claiming the police fired first and refused to identify themselves.

There is even a video where the butchered police agents were dragged around like sacks of meat and heaped into an army Hilux, with the suspect nowhere to be found.

I am still trying to understand what is going on.

You think there will be a Coup d'état?

It's because, unless we’re talking rampant banditry (crooks disguised as military and police etc) we’re looking at breakdown in military and policing and a helpless presidency. I’m finding it difficult to envisage a full term here, something is going to give (military, government or country) if things are as bad as media is feeding us. Major heads will have to roll if we are to avert disaster, sorry, catastrophe, disaster is exhausted- Buratai or president need to consider their position it’s the Statesman thing do for the sake of the Nation and nascent democracy

..or am I panicking out of ignorance?

Yes, perhaps.

However that suggestion flies out the window when you consider the fact that Nigeria only operates a Miniature Neutron Source Reactor (MNSR), which uses LEU and thus doesn't require such a humongous sum for treatment of nuclear waste (well,at least the only nuclear facilities I am aware of is the one in Kaduna and the Centre for Energy Research and Development at Obafemi Awolowo University which I am very familiar with, I visited there several times while working on my B.Sc. thesis). All our nuclear researchers get trained abroad,in China and Pakistan, we do not train anyone on nuclear waste management in-house(not that I know of last time I checked, because we don't have most of the facilities required for such),hence,it doesn't make any sense to be procuring "equipments" for something we aren't even able to do.
what humongous sum? $13.8m?

Also, one begins to wonder whether it is the NSCDC's job to handle nuclear waste treatment training, when we already have the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) doing the same thing. Maybe you considered that too,or maybe not, I tend to forget that not everyone is smart(no offense intended of course).

So,you see, contrary to what you may think, some of us can actually count from one to ten without our brains leaking out our ears.
while wondering you can check what the FPF of the US DoE does

Yes, $31.8m(about N5billion) budgeted for "nuclear equipments" by an agency that has nothing to do with Nigeria's atomic energy network, is indeed a humongous sum. I assume you are aware that, in Nigeria, we generally don't pluck money from trees, neither does Aso rock possess a wardrobe filled with voodoo money.

How exactly does the duties of the US profor tally with the NSCDC. I will direct you to read up on the Act that sets up the NSCDC,so as to be better informed about their duties.

If at all there is any plan to purchase equipments for the treatment of nuclear waste(which like I said earlier, cannot be the case),it would be the job of NAEC.

Who says they have nothing to do with the Atomic Energy network? The Minister of Interior?
If you'd take your advice

* Assist in the maintenance of peace and order and in the protection and rescuing of the Civil population during the period of emergency.

* Maintain 24hour surveillance over infrastructures, sites and projects for the Federal , State and Local Government

*Have power to arrest with or without a warrant , detain , investigate and institute legal proceedings by or in the name of the Attorney-General of the Federation in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria against any person who is reasonably suspected to have committed an offence under this Act or is involved in any:
1. (i)Criminal activity
2. (ii)Chemical poison or oil spillage nuclear waste, poisoning

Still asking what the FPF have to do with the above?
Lastly, you're the only one talking about WASTE TREATMENT!

Okay, let's get this straight:

1. NSCDC has nothing to do directly with Nigeria's atomic energy network, when it comes to protection of nuclear materials, the Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority(NNRA) has an elite team in conjunction with the Nigerian Police Special Intelligence Unit (SIU), similar to that US profor you have been singing about.

2. The newspaper article isn't even talking about NSCDC doing the work of the NNRA(or similar to the FPF), it clearly stated that the agency is planning to acquire "nuclear equipments". When has it been the duty of the NSCDC to procure nuclear related equipments?.

3. When it comes to protection of the civilian population and public infrastructures, the NPF,NSCDC,DSS,and even military are equally involved.

4. You were the first to talk about "nuclear waste management" in your OP, thus I am replying based on your initial comment.

PRESS RELEASE

The attention of the Army Headquarters has been drawn to the Press Release by
DCP FRANK MBA
FORCE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
FORCE HEADQUARTERS
ABUJA Ref No. CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.2/68 Date: 7th August, 2019 on the unfortunate incident that occurred on the 6th of August 2019 in which troops of 93 Battalion Nigerian Army Takum pursued and exchanged fire with some suspected Kidnappers who indeed turned out to be an Intelligence Response Team from the Police Force Headquarters Abuja on a covert assignment from Abuja resulting in the death and injury of some members of the Team.

On the 6th of August 2019, the said Nigerian Army troops, while responding to a distressed call to rescue a kidnapped victim exchanged fire with the suspected kidnappers along Ibi-Wukari Road in Taraba State.

The suspected kidnappers numbering about ten (10) and driving in a white bus with Reg No LAGOS MUS 564 EU refused to stop when they were halted by troops at three consecutive check points. The flagrant refusal of the suspected kidnappers to stop at the three checkpoints prompted a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects by the troops. It was in this process that the suspected kidnappers who were obviously armed opened fire at the troops sporadicaly thus prompting them to return fire.

In the resultant fire fight, four (4) suspects were shot and died on the spot while four (4) others sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds and 2 others reportedly missing. It was only after this avoidable outcome that one of the wounded suspects disclosed the fact that they were indeed Policemen dispatched from Nigerian Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja for a covert assignment.

However, following inquiries from a Police Station officer who was asked by the commander of the Army troops whether he was aware of any Nigerian Police team being dispatched to operate in the LGA, the Divisional Police Officer of Ibi Police Division responded that he was not informed about any operation by the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters thus lending credence to the distressed call from members of the community that the suspects who turned out to be Policemen on a covert mission were rather suspected kidnappers.

This incident is indeed quite unfortunate and could have been avoided through proper coordination and liaison as the Nigerian Police Force are partners in the fight against crimes such as kidnapping amongst myriads of other internal security threats confronting our nation of which the Nigerian Police is the lead Agency.

In order to avert future occurrences of this nature, the Army Headquarters and the Force Headquarters of the Nigerian Police have agreed to constitute a Joint lnvestigation Panel to be headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department, DIG Mike Ogbizi, to jointly investigate and report on the true circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident. Therefore, until the Joint Investigation Panel concludes and submits its report, it will be premature to officially conclude and speak on the real circumstances that caused this unfortunate but very avoidable unfortunate incident.

Good we now understand each other. You will recall that one of the points I made initially is that this could all be a result of bland journalism. Perhaps, the official was referring to specialized operational items which the journalist didn't understand.

Or maybe it's all an attempt to siphon money. It's a tactic civil servants are particularly fond of, though this one is rather over the top. grin

Anyway, you may be right on your point 2.

Two things involved here, either;
1. The journalist is simply clueless about security procurements and therefore, the report is ridiculously skewed, really,I have once heard a "seasoned" journalist refer to a patrol boat as a warship. More recently,a military helicopter(I think one of the gazelles) was called a "combat jet" in full view of the camera grin .

Or

2. Some people must be smoking serious weed in the NSCDC. I don't even know how they will be able to get away with this. Hopefully, the Senate will throw it out.

Option 1 no doubts grin
