Newly Promoted Bundesliga Club Set To Beat Porto To Signature Of Flying Eagles Star Anumudu

Allnigeriasoccer.com has been informed that Flying Eagles wing-back Udochukwu Anumudu has turned down a move to Porto, with the money offered by the Primeira Liga powerhouse falling short of his valuation.

During negotiations, Porto were only prepared to part with a meager 50,000 euros for the 17-year-old to pen a preliminary contract pending when his transfer fee will be paid when he attains the age of majority in October 2016.

Anumudu has now been offered another chance to move to Europe, with his intermediary holding high-level talks with representatives of a German club.

While the identity of the German club is a closely guarded secret, this website understands that the club will certainly be playing in the Bundesliga next season following their promotion from the second-tier this term.

Though Udochukwu Anumudu did not win any individual accolade at the 2015 Fifa Under 17 World Cup, the fullback was one of the most outstanding players for the Golden Eaglets.

Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar will be part of the AS Roma squad who will face Al Ahly of Dubai in a friendly later this month.

Sadiq informed AfricanFootball.com Roma will be in Dubai from May 18 for four days at season’s end for short training camp, during which they will play a friendly against local side Ahly.

Amuneke admits Flying Eagles sweating on Osimhen

Osimhen

Nigeria U20 coach Emmanuel Amuneke has said the team are waiting on a medical report to ascertain the extent of a shoulder injury suffered by star striker Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen pulled out his shoulder in the Flying Eagles 2-1 win over Nigeria Olympic team in a friendly in Abuja on Thursday.

Amuneke said they will now wait on a medical report to advise if the striker will be fit for an U20 AFCON qualifier in Burundi on May 21.

“We are not sure how serious it is yet, so we cannot make any declarations (to him being unavailable),” he told AfricanFootball.com

“He has to see the medical team and probably undergo some tests for us to be sure the extent of the injury and we have to wait until we have a feedback from the doctors.”

The 17-year-old striker scored the winner in the 2-1 win over the U23’s, after Funsho Bamgboye had cancelled out Daniel Etor’s opener for the ‘Dream Team VI, but he appeared to have pulled his shoulder afterwards.

The Flying Eagles will travel to Bujumbura on May 18 for the first leg of the qualifier, which will be played three days later in the Burundian capital of Bujumbura.

Chelsea teenager Fikayo Tomori turning heads on both sides of the Atlantic

By David Pasztor

My fascinated Euro-America-centric mind just spent a good bit of time reading about various languages and dialects of the Volta-Niger family, the biggest of which apparently is Yoruba, spoken mostly in west and central Nigeria as well as Benin. As best as I can tell, Fikayo Tomori (full name Oluwafikayomi Oluwadamilola Tomori) is a Yoruba name. This doesn't really matter, but I was curious if I could find out any more information about his Nigerian parents. I couldn't, but I did learn about Yoruba, so I've got that going for me.
www.nairaland.com/attachments/3709834_fikayo_jpegd580df04f7322d00393fab5c1b57291f

Anyway, Tomori was born to Nigerian parents in Calgary, Canada, but by the age of eight, he was over in London and part of Chelsea Academy. So he's yet another one of these life-long True Blues who are now starting to come of age and of talent and are knocking on the door of greatness. He broke onto the public scene last season, often playing for the U21s as a first year scholar.

Now 18, Tomori has been the breakout defensive star in the Academy, playing a key part in our FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth Cup double triumph. His efforts were rewarded with a spot on the bench Wednesday at Anfield alongside fellow teenagers Kasey Palmer and Tammy Abraham. Only Abraham got to make his debut, but Tomori was buzzing as well, as the kids say these days.

Chelsea aren't the only ones excited by the young defender's progress. He was called on by Canada U20s in November, and they are certainly hoping he will choose them eventually at the senior level as well. Tomori remains eligible for England and Nigeria as well.

"He loves to defend, he's an out-and-out defender. He loves the 1-v-1 defending, he's very good in those situations. He has a desire, an aggression about him, to win the ball back. It's a trait we've almost lost in our modern defenders."

"He brings a lot of experience to our group. He's not the most vocal of players, but that experience, you can see it in the way that he competes."

-Rob Gale, Canada U20 head coach; source MLS Soccer

www.nairaland.com/attachments/3709845_tomori_jpeg1274319edb3d6e4caf434660dc1933ac
It's easy to get carried away by teenagers' star turns in the Academy, but the current crop of youngsters coming up through the ranks at Chelsea certainly seem a class above. It might take a few years, but surely, some of them have got to make it into the first-team, right? With our core group of defenders quickly aging themselves out of effectiveness and Kurt Zouma the only lock as far as the next generation is concerned (and that's assuming he recovers properly from his ACL tear), perhaps Tomori will be the one to make that leap? So far so good! What this space...

I understand what joseph1013 is trying to do. He has arranged a revenge game. Hahaha OMG.We shall see the end of it.

But not to worry. I am not moved.

I still maintain that this U20 squad would b better and more competitive than the 2015 set.

See, I have said it that i have been following d WYC since 1985. When i mean following i mean following analytically. I know what a real U20 team should b made of.

I have x-rayed the composition of our most succesful U20 teams of years past. I know the stuffs each of those teams is made of.

The only thing that can let Amuneke down is if he does nt go for our best available players of the U20 age bracket.

This U20 team will have at least 6 players from d last U20 or 2013 U17. Ifeanyi Mathew, Taiwo Awoniyi, Chigozie Obasi, Chidera Eze, Musa Yahaya, Zaharadeen Bello. These 6 players, I am sure u know, have improved from where they were at d last U20. At 2015 WYC they were academy players bt most have now signed professional contract and are playing first team football.

We also have 2 U23 players hu are also elligible: Azubuike Okechukwu and Sincere Seth. Though seth is still with an academy, he will turn 18 this year and hopefully sign a professional contract. The AYC and WYC are next yr so Seth would have gained 1 yr prodessional experience. Azubuike Okechukwu is already a professional player hu needs no introduction. He has even featured for the Super Eagles of which his performance was above average. In him this U20 would have a rock solid DMF.

Do I need to mention that the following players are also elligible for team selection?: Sadiq Umar, Nura Abdullahi and Chidozie Awaziem. These guys u know are already senior team players for their various clubs. This trio i need not tell you abt their exploits in Europe.

And finally, we have the likes of Kelechi Nwakali, Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Funsho Bamgboye that are academy players of top clubs/ academies. Some other of their mates are also soon to make their way to European academies.

The 2015 U20 set though blessed with so much talent was greatly lacking in experience. Awoniyi, Yahaya, Ezeh, Mathew, Zaharadeen I am sure u agree are better players today than dey were two years ago. They have added more professionalism to their game and that will definitely rub off on d the team.

I have severally Iikened this team to the 1989 Flying Eagles of which they could be better than. The only stumbling block could be Amuneke's choice of players.

Most of us here have known each other for almost 2yrs. We have been through several competitions on these threads together. Go back and check all my predictions and expectations for our teams at competitions and matches. Both males and females. Senior and Junior teams. I have seen a lot abt Nigerian football to easily make informed predictions.

Watch out for this next U20 team.

Personally i want these players included in this team, 1-YAHAYA, 1-SADIQ, 3-AZUBIKE, NURA, 4-MATHEW, 5-BELLO 6-AWAZIEM,and we are good to go

Flying Eagles Star Osimhen Given The Green Light To Face Burundi;Starts Light Training

Allnigeriasoccer.com has been informed that Wolfsburg-bound Nigeria youth international Victor Osimhen is not in danger of missing the Africa U20 Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi.

Having undergone a scan to determine the severity of the injury he picked up against the Olympic Team on Thursday, team medics have confirmed that he suffered a minor shoulder injury and it is not something major that will make him not travel with the squad to Bujumbura.

To buttress that point, Osimhen, himself, has confirmed that he is not feeling pains and jogged with the rest of his Flying Eagles teammates on Friday afternoon, but did not train with the rest of the squad.

The Ultimate Strikers poster boy is expected to resume full training with the Nigeria U20s on Monday, May 16.

Canada Coach Highlights Qualities Of Tomori After Making Chelsea Bench Vs Liverpool

Leicester City U21s thrashed Chelsea 3-0 at the at the King Power Stadium on Thursday afternoon to retain their Barclays U21 Premier League status.

England youth international with Nigerian heritage, Layton Ndukwu, was selected in the starting XI of the Foxes, Ola Aina started in defense for the Blues while teammate Ike Ugbo led the frontline.

Leicester City started brightly and were rewarded with a goal in the 36th minute when winger Ndukwu beat three defenders before chipping the ball over goalkeeper Collins.

Ugbo had a glorious opportunity to level matters in the second half but failed to connect a cross from substitute Jay Dasilva before a brace from Muskwe secured the win.

Canada U20 international Fikayo Tomori was with Chelsea’s first-team squad on Wednesday, so was not involved against Leicester City.

Layton Ndukwu was substituted in the 65th minute while Ugbo and Aina played the full game.

Canada Coach Highlights Qualities Of Tomori After Making Chelsea Bench Vs Liverpool

Canada U20 coach Rob Gale has highlighted the qualities of Fikayo Tomori after the young defender was named in Chelsea’s 18-man squad for a competitive fixture for the first time in his career on Wednesday night.

The defender, who remains eligible to represent Nigeria internationally, skippered the Canada U20s squad that beat England 2-1 in a friendly back in March, and Gale has said that he was appointed captain due to his experience, having spent ten years with the youth teams of Chelsea.

“He loves to defend, he’s an out-and-out defender. He loves the 1-v-1 defending, he’s very good in those situations,” Gale told MLSsoccer.com.

“He has a desire, an aggression about him, to win the ball back. It’s a trait we’ve almost lost in our modern defenders.

“He brings a lot of experience to our group. He’s not the most vocal of players, but that experience, you can see it in the way that he competes.”

The Canada U20s manager has hinted that he will call up Tomori for a get-together this month, ahead of friendly matches that will take place in Costa Rica.

Nigeria Federation Confirms Victor Osimhen WILL Spearhead Flying Eagles Attack Vs Burundi

The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that Ultimate Strikers poster boy Victor Osimhen will spearhead the Flying Eagles attack versus Burundi , amid rumours in the local media that he could miss the game next Saturday.

The ex-Golden Eaglets sensation pulled his shoulder after a collision with Dream Team VI defender Segun Oduduwa during the second half of Thursday’s friendly between the Flying Eagles and Olympic Team and subbed out immediately after the incident.

“He fell awkwardly after the collision with the Under-23 defender but it is nothing serious as you can see,” Dr Salami was quoted as saying by the official webpage of the Nigerian Federation, thenff.com.

The same source added that Osimhen has scored in all but one of the Nigeria U20s friendly games since the start of the get-together in Abuja.

The 17-year-old jogged with the team before the start of training on Friday afternoon.

The Nigerian men's under-20 team head coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has revealed that Victor Osimhen has been cleared to take part in the 2017 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations qualifier in Burundi.

Osimhen, 17, suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury during a friendly with the Nigeria under-23s during the week.

Amuneke, who had feared that the striker may have crocked up ahead of the trip to Burundi, has now disclosed that the Wolfsburg man is fit for the second round, first leg qualifying game of the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations.

"Victor is a strong boy. He is in good condition now to play against Burundi despite our initial fear," Amuneke said.

The Flying Eagles are scheduled to face their Burundian counterparts in Bujumbura on May 21 while the return fixture will be held in Nigeria on the weekend of June 10-12.

Chelsea Talent Fikayo Tomori Delighted To Make His Professional Debut

Canada U20 international Fikayo Tomori was over the moon after making his competitive debut for the first team of Chelsea in their 1-1 draw with Leicester City in the English Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Only four days ago, the young defender made The Blues 18-man squad for the first time in his career against Liverpool but wasn’t given a run-out, whereas he stepped out onto the Stamford Bridge turf in the 60th minute today, replacing Ivanović.

“ What. A. Day. Proud to make my Chelsea debut today vs Leicester in front of the home fans at Stamford Bridge to cap off a great week!

The 18-year-old helped Chelsea U19s retain the UEFA Youth League last month, starring in the final against PSG.

Tomori was recently voted Chelsea Academy Player of the Year for 2016.

Liverpool Midfielder Ejaria Poised To Face Former Club Arsenal At Spax Cup

Liverpool talent Ovie Ejaria is in line to face his former club Arsenal on Monday morning in the semifinal of the Spax Cup in Germany.

The Reds U19s squad qualified for the last four of the competition after beating Hamburg 2-0 in their final group fixture on Sunday afternoon, with the former Golden Eaglets trainee lasting the distance.

Ejaria, wearing the number six jersey, started as Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Schalke 04 on Saturday and was a substitute in their goalless draw with Atletico Mineiro.

On the other hand, the Gunners played out a 1-1 draw with TuS Ennepetal in their last match in the group. Aaron Eyoma started his third game in the competition.

Born in London 18 years ago, Ovie Ejaria was on the books of Arsenal for about seven years but left the club to join Liverpool in 2014 after he was not offered a scholarship.

In Kelechi Nwakali, Nigeria has a true midfield general that will "comfortably" take over from Mikel Obi as Mikel took over from Okocha.

The difference here is this..... K.Nwakali is a midfield all-rounder..... can play the Amf/Cmf/Dmf roles comfortably but is more of a CMF/AMF.

Greater than Oliseh and Vieira? Yes!!! He has such high potentials to surpass both and I'm not kidding one bit.... I analysed this kid earlier on this thread when the matter of who should start in this Nigeria's U-20 Class of 2017 arose and I concluded that K.Nwakali is still my pick ahead of Ifeanyi Matthew.

No need for much words.... I just can't wait to see him join Arsenal for pre-season training..... he will be 18 in June and the way I see it... He can make his EPL debut next season. No rush though.... but Kelechi is the real deal....

Note: Vieira and Oliseh were never set-piece specialists but were midfield enforcers. Kelechi is on track to be a world class midfield enforcer and orchestrator..... and added to that, a rising set-piece master. Abeg!!! like I said.... no need for much words wink

Why does he have to be greater than one and be like one,I say is possible he can be greater than both

Bro that boy will be there soon. Looking inevitable. He will be Arsenal's new paddy Vieira and will be greater than Oliseh.

Quote me.

A fellow gunner has spoken. And I say very well spoken.

I said it before that a player like Kelechi Nwakili comes to Nigeria once in a decade.

Okocha 1990s; Mikel 2000s; Nwakali 2010s.

Nwakali, apart from being a highly skillful and talented midfielder, is not so injury prone due to the way he plays; just like Okocha and Mikel.
Players like these tend to do well in the long run. They tend to remain in the spot light for a longer time.

In terms of Team selection, I think Azubuike Okechukwu, Kelechi Nwakali and Ifeanyi Mathew can be well accommodated in this Team. Each of them can play DMF, CM and AMF roles respectively. With Musa Yahaya and Samuel Chukwueze tearing opponents from the wings and Victor Osimhen or Sadiq Umar doing his thing up front:

..................Azubuike
...............................Nwakali/Mathew

Chukwueze..........Mathew/Nwakali.........Yahaya

.........................Osimhen/Sadiq

Sincere Seth, John Lazarus and Nura Abdullahi will compete for the RB Position. We also have Awaziem and Zakari CB pairing. Anumudu is at LB.

This is a killer squad!

If only Amuneke could visit this thread, the squad is the best we have at the moment, when u add Bello,Awaziem,Nura and Anumudu to that midfield,we are good to go perhaps for the trophy this time around.

There is no need for much words, but based on what we have observed of him, greatness and legendary are our thoughts for him. K. Nwakali is the real McCoy.

Flying Eagles battle high altitude in Burundi

From Eaglets to Flying Eagles

African U20 champions Nigeria will begin the defence of their crown Saturday afternoon with a tricky road trip to Burundi’s capital city of Bujumbura, which is over 2,500 feet above sea level.

Despite its high altitude, which places additional demands on physical exercises like playing football, Bujumbura has an average weather temperature of about 29 degrees, which is warm.

Home team Burundi walked over DR Congo in the first round of the qualifiers, while the Flying Eagles drew bye.

New Flying Eagles coach Emmanuel Amuneke is in Burundi with the bulk of the team he guided to win the FIFA U17 World Cup last year in Chile and not one player who is playing in the country’s top-flight domestic league.

Striker Victor Osimhen, who will sign a professional contract with German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in January 2017 when he would have clocked 18 years, is the star of this team.

He proved his class in the team’s heart-warming 2-1 test match win over the Nigeria Olympic team, scoring the winning goal and providing an assist for the opening goal.

He has recovered from a shoulder injury he suffered in that game and along with skipper Kelechi Iheanacho and Samuel Chukwueze will be expected to inspire the U20s to victory again.

The Flying Eagles are very fit, play as a team and will not be intimidated by whatever the host team throw at them.

Kick-off time on Saturday is 1pm Nigerian time.
