I DON'T THINK THE SYSTEM HAS A RESTORE POINT. FROM THE MANUFACTURERS.
THEN I RAN A VIRUS REMOVAL TOOL (KASPERSKY) BUT NOW IT DOESN'T GO BEYOND THE WELCOME SCREEN, AFTER THAT THE SCREEN IS JUST BLANK EXCEPT FOR THE MOUSE CURSOR. CTRL+ALT+DEL WORKS BUT THAT'S HOW FAR IT GOES. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME PLEASE. 'PRECIATE IT!

Computer guru's in the house, great job y'll doin here. Keep it up.
I have problem with my windows Xp. Once i switch on and it finishes booting, two error messages get displayed.

The first is "Application layer gateway service encountered error and needs to close."

the second comes up a few seconds later: "Generic host process for Win32 service encountered error and needs to close."

All of my services then stop working. Eg i cant print, no firewall, etc. It started recently so i tried using system restore, but d error message gets displayed saying the service needs to close,

Someone suggested manually restarting all services but when i tried it, an error message comes up.

What could be the problem? HELP PLEAAAASE!!

do you have utorent or limewire installed ?

Also try and scan with a security software if you have any

or download spybot search and destroy

when does the problem start we might be able to
revert the clock to when it was last working

thanks very much for your prompt reply & recommendations. Unfortunatetly i couldn't apply any of them, because the damn thing has stopped booting all together. Once i power on the screen then goes blank, nothing i do has any effect. I tried safe mode but that doesnt work either.

Could it be virus? What suprises me is that the only program i installed was upgpaded avast.

Anyway i guess the system is toast, huh? Or is there any hope?

I don't think your system is dead. What I think happened is your registry is totally corrupted. If you can get into your BIOS setup then your system is still alive. From your explanation there had been a malware attack on your computer which ruined the registry.

Now, remove your battery and charger. Depress the power button holding it down for about 10 seconds or more and reconnect your charger or battery and power up your computer. If you couldn't succeed in getting to your safe mode this time around try to do new installation without partitioning or formatting your hard disk to save your files in your previous Windows. After successful installation try to get your important files save to you hard disk you would create with your Disk manager or simply save them to a removable storage.  When you are through with that next is try to do a proper Windows installation.

I hope that would be helpful.

Hi gurus, got a hardware question.
Got a old desktop I use as a htpc. It uses IDE hard drives, changed it a couple of times.

Thing is am thinking of changing it again cos its failing, but finding the 80 gb limit a bit soso. How can I possibly get to stick a SATA drive in there?

All d recent pc iv seen come with connector cables that won't fit on the motherboard of this ancient p4. I only use it for xbmc anyway so not looking to spend any cash on a new pc!

is simple terms it was made for ide type of connection i have never seen seen an ide to sata adapter and also why waste on adapter than a motherboard that has both type of connection

the best solution is to put another ide based drive

sounds like your battery is no longer holding any charge. The only solution for that is either find another charger to test with your computer to see if you have the wrong charger or buy a new battery.

Hello,
I just bought this laptop on Craigslist and realised that there is an administrative right on it to which I do not have the password thus, I cannot download or install any application on it. Is there any way I can reformat the system? The system doesn't use VISTA or Windows 7 rather it uses a specialised operating system (I suppose) called ubuntu. Is there any way you can help
