If you're having virus, worms or any other malware problems. Try scanning your PC with RoboSAM first.

mercylicious: Plz my ppl, I have a challenge.
I have hp 6000 pro sff dt is having windows issue.
On booting, It prompts d error message, dt a windows file is missing and dt I shld repair.
I've tried using d two types of repair on win xp bootable cd ( chkdsk repair and the full repair) but it seems the pc was built nt to accept this kind of repair.
I have also used the os dt came wit it, put d os, it asks for the restore cd, put the restore cd, it confirms is geniune , put back d os and repair, but all to no avail.

Each time I have d issue, I back up and format. Bt this reinstallation takes my time as I have a lot of other applications to install and configure.

I feel someone in this forum shld have a solution to this repair issue.

1st question you need to ask yourself is why does this happen often. My take is that you manage how you use your device, and install a good antivirus.

back to the problem, it should show you the PATH to the missing file from the error. Try the below process first:

1) Insert the original Windows XP bootable setup CD-ROM in your computer.

2) Start your computer

3) In the Windows XP Setup dialog box, press ENTER - To setup Windows now

4) Press F8 to accept the Windows Licensing Agreement

5) Windows will examine your system and detect the corrupt Windows XP installation. The corrupt installation will be selected by default.

6) Press R on your computer keyboard to repair the selected Windows XP installation

7) Windows XP Setup will copy files required to repair your computer from the CD-ROM

cool Allow the setup process to complete. This could take up to one hour. Your laptop may reboot during the Windows repair process.

9) You will be prompted to confirm the Regional and Language Options settings during the Windows XP repair process. Confirm or change the settings, and press Next to continue the repair.

10) Windows Setup will complete the repair process, and your computer can now boot normally. You will not lose any of your data on the computer. Your Windows preferences will also be preserved.

You original files are still there hidden and replaced by the .exe files.

To Restore your files:

Start-All programs-accessories-System tools- system restore
you will see a dialogue box on restore. (Choose a date before the Virus started its wahala)
OK and your system will be restored.

to see your files:

open the flash drive.
click on the "tools" tab then click on "folder option" from the drop down.
From the folder option dialogue box, click on the view tab and check the "show all files, folders and drives" option.
click OK.

you should now see all your hidden files and copy them out.

Goodluck.

Good point by wolebaba. It would appear the error msg should be something like
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\SYSTEM file is missing or corrupt

or HALL, NTLDR,
NTDETECT CONFIG. SYS, loader
kernel HAL
boot drivers
system registry hive

The computer needs to be instructed to cop
the corrupted file from the cd into the installation
path.if you have an original cd as suggested by wolebaba it
may do it automatically but i doubts that happening.

specify the actual error msg to us so we can give you the command
to type. it best to get the correct windows xp cd. if you installed
xp home get home cd or professional vice versa. does not really matter as
such as they both use the same system files but would recommend to get the
correct one

What's the full error msg please ?

Pls guys help me reply to this

deji2009:

connect the usb modem

Press the Windows key and R key simultaneously. A Run box appears.

Type Devmgmt.msc, then press Enter. This loads the Device Manager.

Double-click on Universal Serial Bus controllers

Double-click on USB Root Hub.
You may have more than one USB Root
Hub listed in the Device Manager.
Double-click on any one of the USB Root Hubs.

Click on the Power Management tab.

Uncheck the box next to Allow the computer
to turn off this device to save power.

repeat this steps for everything underneath
universal serial bus controllers. some may not
have power management as option don't bother with them
just the one with power management and remove the tick

Push the OK button and close the Device Manager.

Continue using the modem as you would normally do and
and take note of any changes.
Tried it but its still getting disconnected

I can do a remote connection to resolve your issue. But:

Do U have good internet access? This very necessary for remote desktop.
Do you have the teamviewer app? Download and install the app on your desktop, send me the ID and password.

CAUTION: I may be a hacker looking to steal your info. Lolz am only trying to let you know the implications.

Be careful sir when using Command prompt to reset the attributes of a file, ensure that you type the command as indicated above. Also ensure that you know the drive letter for your flash.

I've tried slaving it and copying files frm dt path on a working pc, bt it can't be copied.
Please any further advise.

I have resolved this issue before. I actually tot my method was crude and silly back then but now I see that it wasn't.

After going tru all the above stated options:

I looked for a perfectly healthy PC of the same model and slaved its HD then copy out the required file.

I then slaved the faulty PC's HD and copied the missing files into them. Se you understand sha. If not send me sms on o8o23996132 hope U have BB I will send U ma PIN. Then we can work together, but only in the evenings.

deji2009:

Pls answer these in order

HP model number pls? e.g., HP DV6000

flashing white cursor on the black screen ?

Any peripherals attached ?

Is it Nvidia video graphics

can it boot to safe mode by pressing f8,
does this behavior happen when going to safe mode

we could run system restore in safe mode by turning the
clock to a time when it works ok

Has this been happening for a long time now ?

Enter the bios by f10 and run diagnostics Hard drive test,
if you have enough battery or if it is AC powered run the
memory test as well.so we know that they all ok.

Has it ever had a graphic re-flow before ?

HP model number ~nc6000
flashing white cursor on the black screen ~No
Any peripherals attached~No
Is it Nvidia video graphics~No
can it boot to safe mode by pressing f8~The screen remains blank.
The system is on but a blank screen shows.

A good question was just asked by wolebaba
and also please provide the answer to the below.
I take it that you're installing
from http://business.toshiba.com/support/index.jsp

OS type XP/Vista/windows 7/Linux
Browser type chome/firefox/explorer
Printer most likely 10yrs old ?

Connection type USB cable ?
Apart from toshiba website, which
other site have you tried ?

It maybe you're using Win 7 and
the drivers you downloaded is
not compatible with the printer.
Have you tried running the printer
drivers in compatible mode

You might have to install xp virtual
mode/machine from microsoft website and
then you can use it conecting it with xp virtural mode
and install the drivers just before connectin it is
always a good idea.

Good night

try connecting to a monitor
pls note your laptopp might need
projecting to the ex display
by fn and a button usually f5, f6 or f7
or something like that. use a vga cable
try something nice and easy its called an ATX reset

leave it unplugged, take out the battery old the on
button for 1 minute them plug in the power cable with out
the battery and try powering it up should work without the
battery and just the cable then if tht works put the battery back in

one of my favourite fixes Pls let me know if it works

If no joy the technician might want to remove the hard drive

As always I recommend a paid software. This gives U much more options and functionality. That's not to say that d free AV is not gud enuf. U also need to know that no AV will give U a 100% protection. So you best protection against virus is U.

It is all abt the way U use the computer. Be careful wit wat sites U go to and wat drives U allow to be used on it.

Plz buy any of the following that I have used and trusted over the years:

- BitDefender
- Kaspersky
- Norton
- Avira(free but U need to keep it regularly updated)

If you take my advice I can bet U will never have a virus issue anymore.
