Episode 9

Kim knew that her daughter had withdrawn from her.

She could see it.

She was going to make this right.

And God knows she had been trying so hard, but Hailey seemed bent on not making it right. She never knew how her baby daughter had grown to become this girl.

Young on the outside but old and matured on the inside.

Kim tried as much to spend more time at home with Hailey.

She didn't even know if Hailey noticed or she was just trying not to notice.

This was difficult.

Everything seemed to be going wrong for her.

First of all, Ralph wasn't even paying her attention any longer.

She bet that this was because of Jessica.

She hated that fake woman who was gradually stealing her man.

She needed to do something quick.

But she couldn't think of anything.

This was crazy.

Kim stared at her daughter who was pretending to concentrate on her cartoon. She moved closer to Hailey trying to touch her.

To her surprise Hailey let her, given that fact that Hailey had been avoiding her like a plague.

Hailey diverted her attention from the cartoon to her, "I am tired of fighting with you mummy" Hailey said softly.

Kim smiled sweetly, "I am tired of you fighting me too. I am really sorry for leaving you behind in school she said sincerely.

Hailey searched her eyes to know if she was lying.
" I wasn't happy mummy. Daddy was so angry when my teacher called him to tell him that I was still in school" she said with her little voice.

Kim nodded. Of course he had a right to be angry, and she needed to fix things.
She drew Hailey into a hug, "I love you baby, no matter what happens remember I love you".

Six years back.

Tara frowned.

"can you imagine that tramp eh?! " Tara said angrily causing Kim to raise a brow.

" who are you talking about? "she asked, curious to know who had gotten Tara in a piss mode.

" Jessica Parker of cause. That fool insulted me" Tara said crossing her arms.

"Ralph's ex, what did she want? " Kim asked.

Tara eyed Kim," Are you dumb. What else would she want? " she spat out angrily.

Kim's face fell. Tara had never spoken to her in such rude manner.

" Why would you take out your anger on me? "Kim asked sadly.

Tara moved closer to Kim, placing a hand on her face softly,drawing circles on her cheek with her manicured red blood nails.

" I have the right to talk to you in whatever way I want to. I made you and I can destroy you. The day you decide to forget that, prepare yourself for a storm" Tara said grabbing kid's face.

Kim's eyes opened in shock. She had never seen Tara this way. She looked really scary. There was something in her eyes that she couldn't explain.

She was saved by a call from her mum.

Tara left her, pushing her like a used doll.

Six years later.


Kim had made up her mind.

She was going to fix her marriage.

She waited, stayed up all night, waiting for Ralph.

But he didn't come back. She pretended like everything was okay.

The next day she moved on with her daily activities. Staying home, preparing Hailey for school,and writing scripts.

Night came so fast, and yet Ralph had not come home.

She waited.

She called him, but his line was switched off.

He didn't come back that day.

When Ralph came home, it was about 4am.She heard him go about like everything was normal.

She sat up and watched him as he removed his cufflinks.

His back was to her, but she sensed that he knew she was watching.

"Why are you still up? " he asked without looking at her as he unbuttoned his shirt.

She yawned as she wiped the sleep out of her eyes.
" Was waiting for you " she said softly.

" You don't need to do that" he said waving her off.

She sat up straight this time.

Was this guy for real?

He hadn't been home for two nights and his phone had been switched off.

That gave her every right to wait up. Moreover, she was his wife!

"I am your wife Ralph. I have every right to wait up. Your phone has been switched off, I thought something had even happened to you and now you tell me I don't need to do that? " she was virtually shouting now.

Ralph sighed as he placed a hand on his forehead.

" I don't need this " he said plainly.

Kim rolled her eyes," Of course you don't need it, you need something else eh? " she said sarcasm dripping from her words. She was referring to the" something else" as Jessica.

Ralph frowned, "I have had enough of your words this morning. I just want to sleep. At least permit me that" he said angrily.

Kim's mouth dropped open, "well, I have had enough of this too, and I need a break" she said angrily.

Ralph raised a brow.

"I am leaving with Hailey tomorrow. We are going to my mother's place to spend a week " she said with crossed arms.

" There is no way you are leaving with Hailey " he said in a strict voice.

Kim laughed cynically, "watch me" she said, taking her position on the bed and turning her back towards him.

Ralph left her for this night.

Hailey was excited on the news of seeing her grandmother that she never saw.

Kim felt guilty. She had cut her mother out of her life after she had gotten married to Ralph. She felt like she was a disgrace to her parents.

Her parents who had loved her very much.

Her parents who had tried their best to give her everything that she needed.

But she had brought shame upon them.

First, she had gotten pregnant out of wedlock, a sin they had always preached against.

And secondly, she had gone ahead to marry a man whom her mother had described as the "devil" himself because of his tattoos and his bad boy personality.

Her mother didn't care that he was rich, she had given him the insult of his life for destroying her daughter's life.

But one thing that her mother didn't know, was the fact that Kim had been the one to destroy her life.

She remembered when her mother had found out she had been doing drugs.

She had almost ran mad.

Her father had been shocked but speechless. He had told his wife to let Kim go. Had told her that she would come back.

Which was exactly what she was doing.

Kim stared at Hailey. Her little baby who she never wanted to experience pain and suffering.

It was every dream of a mother for her daughter to look like her in every way,but it wasn't Kim's.

She wanted her daughter to look nothing like her.

The car pulled down in front of a house that used to be her home.

It was time to face her past.

She came down from the car, helping Hailey down.

The driver brought out their luggage.

Kim left him to bring it after them.

She took a deep breath and held Hailey's hand tight.

Hailey looked up at her mother, "mummy are you okay" she asked with concern written all over her little face.

"Yea honey, I am great" she said with a fake smile.

"Okay, can't wait to meet granny " she said jumping happily.

They climbed the front porch and Kim felt her heart beat increase.

" Who is there? "a voice asked from inside.

" It's Kim" Kim said with a cracked voice and the door opened immediately.

Her mother stood in front of her. Her mouth opened in shock.

Kim stared at her mother. She saw tears, pain, anger and joy in her eyes.

"Oh my, you are back " she said wiping her tears, pulling her daughter into a hug.

" I missed you so much mum" she said crying and inhaling the scent of her mother.

A scent that she missed so much.

"Mummy why are you crying? "Hailey asked looking confused.

Kim's mother stared at her grand daughter and smiled.
" She is so beautiful and she talks so well, what is her name? " she asked taking Hailey's hand.

" My name is Hailey " she said with a wide smile.

Kim's mother of arched a brow,," She is smart too, I love her already " she said smiling appreciatively.

" We should go inside" she said leading both her daughter and grand daughter inside.

She couldn't afford for Tara to find out. Something told her that Tara would be deadly if she discovers.

She shuddered in fear when she remembered the last time she had seen Tara.

How Tara had warned her. There had been something scary in her eyes. Something that she couldn't describe.

She walked into Ralph's compound. He lived in a mansion. He was stinking rich.

The maid led her to a room where Ralph was.

A loud music was on and he was sniffing a white substance from the table.

"Baby, what are you doing? " she asked with concern having to shout to be heard over the music.

Ralph's head jerked up.

He smiled cynically and signalled for her to come.

And she did.
