In China, when you get there, you will see development, and you will see how people are living

Have you actually been to China?

Do you know China is still filled with shacks, including villages with mud huts, dirt roads, in addition to the ''development'' you see in their cities?

Do you know that millions of Chinese flood the embassies seeking visa to escape to Europe and America every year?

Do you know that you also ''see development'' (IF YOU WANT TO) on arrival in Nigeria?

we do know there are poverty anywhere and everywhere in the world, but a 33rd nation in economy and 85% are living in poverty.

Where did you get that figure from?

I always cringe when I hear ignorant Nigerians like you pull out these outlandish figures from their asss.

Every Nigerian seems to think only he has food to eat in the morning.

Rubbish.

If nigeria is really 33rd without any kind of infrastructure then that goes to show just how much potential the country. Imagine how fast Nigeria would shoot up to top 10 if we had honest leaders and stable power and other infrastructure. This is why all these things that go on in nigeria pain me so much

^i totally agree man. that's why i made this thread. inspite of a lot were still climbing.

Nigerians are VERY ignorant though. all ppl are but the difference between nigerians and others is that they think they're smart so they stay stupid things all the time about stuff they aren't knowledgable about.

look that this guy saying there's not poor ppl in china bascially
and they'll all swear to you somalia is better then nigeria lol.

its sad i have to share my country with these ppl but oh well. there are a FEW that are level headed and realistic though.

85% of nigerians are in poverty? have you considered the fact that nigerians call anyone that isn't 'rich' poor?
stupid.

The World standard of measurement must be really be bad and low for a Nation like Nigeria with serious lack of infrastructure, high level of unemployment, poverty and corrupt government to be rated  33rd  economy of the world.  I am interested to know the parameters of this measurement. On a positive side it can also mean if we can generate adequate electricity then we truly can be number one - according to the measurement standards

That Quote is applicable to those that are above or ahead of their humble beginning. When you chose to remain a humble beginner after 49yrs, you make a mockery of that quote if applied to Nigerian case. Even as America is far much ahead of us their citizens sees nothing good abt the government and still criticise the government here and there. The difference is that their government listen to the area of public criticism and try to amend. In Nigeria every Criticism is seen as unpatriotic, becoz they want us to always sing all is well even with an empty stomach.

China is producing goods that people want and need. What is Nigeria producing beside oil and crime? there is NOT one product/service that i think of that is manufactured in Nigeria. there fore where are the new industries coming from. Even small states like Singapore are making a huge impact in the world economy, without any natural resources. The only export Nigeria produces is it people and that isn't welcome in most countries cos of past negative experiences with crime and little to offer the host county.

@ Ikengawo & co, Nigeria may be no 1 for all i care, but if we don't have simple basic infrastructures (light, security, good roads etc) that small countries like Ghana take for granted, then of what use is it? Nigerians, we like decieving ourselves, suffering and smiling, instead of admitting there's a problem and tackling it head-on. Reminds me of some smooth-talking pentecostal churches that teaches their members to say 'am rich' when they actually mean 'am broke' or 'am strong' when they're sick, as if that will make the problem disappear. instead of admitting there's a prob and looking 4 d soln.
We like hoping & praying 4 a messiah to come, when God has given us all we need to make a change, a pple deserve d leaders they get. As far as we pretend its ok and shy away from confronting d criminals/politicians that hold d country hostage, then things will remain d way they are. Even if oil rise above $200 pb, u still wont see change cos 0.0001% of the population will steal everything. All these countries (within & outside africa) that Nigerians are running to today, (fasting & praying 4 visa) @ 1 time or d other in their history, paid d price of d freedom and d infrastructure they enjoy. WE MUST PAY OUR OWN PRICE for change to come.
WAY FORWARD: My pple, d first step is 2011 elections, don't be scared of blood sucking politicians and their thugs, let's come out enmasse to vote d right pple in and insist on free & fair elections. Anything short of that will be met with massive protest all over d country, we'll make d country ungovernable, and i tell u they'll give us our choice. It has happened b4 in other countries and we can make it happen here. Iraq is a good example here- with all the threat (not empty) from extremists, iraqis came out enmasse to vote, even with bombs exploding in some places. They recognise and understand they're shaping their future. NAIJA, LETS BE WISE & DO WHAT IS RIGHT. A word is enough for the wise, God bless Nigeria.

Its not dat nigerians have a phobia 4 progress but leadership is what has eroded their confidence that the country can actually attain prominence.faith had been reposed in it in d past, high hopes were turned 2 nightmares when leadership is confused by the treasure 2 b managed, it would later b a loot.the leadership failure is most suicidal for any nation and ours is no different.non implementation of blue prints, lack of, and rot of present infrastructures, lack of vision, heavy monetisation of d polity, lack of basic amenities, lack of continuity in government, disregard 4 the constitution, flaunting of court rulings, unresolved murders etc. The consolidation of banks is a laudable project but its failure was part of the irresponsibility of government nd not been proactive.the commercial banks were suppose 2 act as consultant, financier nd portfolio managers;they would have been able 2 identify nd develop new line of businesses that could b sold to the public and also provide the financing while they exercise supervision.i guest they were not properly grounded on its objectives, were unprepared or that the responsibility was just too enormous. instead went and specialised in awarding non performing loans for which personal gratification can b received thereby undermining manufacturing drive that needs resurgent.small industries are suppose to have sprang up by now doing businesses in areas not known before and improvement made to existing ones in terms of efficiency nd viability. So 33rd without any manufacturing input and dwindling fortune of businesses occasioned by economic downturn and insecurity of oil instalation & related services,no any addition of new ones leaves one dumbfounded and want to be critical of the ranking criteria.

The only people that are happy with cosmetic growth figures are the thieves and parasites that have been ruining this country. Before Hillary Clinton landed our shores, she made a three telling statements to the effect that;
[li]Nigeria has the Worlds 7th largest oil reserves, but we import fuel[/li]
[li]Only 1% of our population benefits from oil (the rest simply scamble for the crumbs of the so called GDP)[/li]
[li]It is a pity that foreigners know more about Nigeria than the average Nigerian[/li]
We should be a rich country, but we are bloody wretched. All we have are gorilla's and sycophants screaming their empty heads off that we are the 33 biggest economy. They say, "a fo'ol at 40 is a. . ." Nigeria don pass 40 since and some brainless turds still deh yarn dust. embarassed

if you are unhappy that the nigerian economy has been improving since i've been checking you should go away and continue living where you live. i speak to nigerians in nigeria (with educations) and they tell me things are getting remarkably better.

if you don't like this then you don't like this, i supposed there's nothing i can do for you but keep loving my country and hoping things get better.

nigerian ppl are plagued by a 'get rich instantly' fetish though. 49 years in not enough time for a country as complexed as nigeria and at 49 the english didn't have fire.
