Chimamanda Adichie was the keynote speaker at the 2018 Igbo Conference in London. Her talk, titled "Igbo bu Igbo", explored the evolution of gender roles in Igboland since precolonial times, the importance of language, and the need to continuously re-imagine and re-define culture. is now time anambra state government create a standard of structures which will be built in a particular area. if the structure present in that area is off standard, the owner should be given notice. when they fail to meet the government structural standard, such building should be bought and sold out to an eligible candidate or the government should build a structure that can yield them interest. JUST AN IDEA FOR ERADICATING SUB STANDARD BUILDINGS FROM THE STATE! 1 Like 1 Share |

NGWA NEZIENU ANYA.... My Good Readers, Gov Willie Obiano through the current Commissioner for Transport, Rail & Water, Hon. Uchenna Okafor (WIPER) has demonstrated a committed sincere approach towards sanitizing our society especially in Urban Areas. The ongoing Operation Stop Street Trading just like normal government policies, has attracted criticisms from all corners. The Commissioner personally has assured Anambrarians whose goods are affected to bear with the State Government. With time we shall understand better and why the primary interest of this government is to save lives. NOW JUST IMAGINE THIS.... Yesterday at Aroma Junction this happened. A bike man who was driving from Ifite Awka got to the bridge and without looking properly, continued his journey as if he was heading to the MACDONS. Unknowingly to him, a trailer was coming and then, in the effort to save the life of the Okada rider, it happened. NOW: My concern wasn't what happened to the Okada driver. What everyone around were shouting and exclaiming were, had it been all those other Okada, Banana, Mango, Water Melon, Roasted Corn etc Sellers were there, only God knows how many that could have lost their lives just yesterday. AGAIN, In the bid to help this society, His Excellency Gov. Willie Obiano has barricaded the Federal Highway from the Aroma up to Kwata Bridge and yet, our people had continued to permeate those barricades for one reasons or the other. Just few weeks ago, at the same dangerous Unizik junction, a Trailer loaded with Soft Drinks hit and shattered the barricades at exactly that same spot that people use legs to cross over and kept asking myself had it been. Over more than two other cases of such had happened at the Kwata axis just before the flyover. Let us ThankGod for yesterday and always bear in mind that our Governor will do all its takes to safeguard the lives he is sworn to protect. STOPSTREETTRADINGNOW. investnow2013: People shouldn't feel sorry for most street traders because they seek to take advantage of location, location, location. They buy a few key goods and illegally cluster where there is heavy traffic at junctions and bottlenecks to intentionally add to the chaos, slow traffic to sell their wares. Meanwhile inexpensive shops are available in less attractive locations where they can still make a living. But encouraging them is indirectly encouraging a primitive economy built on wooden stalls and wheel barrows. No need for concrete, roofing, electrical fixtures, tiles, plumbing, tables, chairs, refrigeration. Such that primitive retail ultimately disincentivizes investment in key commercial places. This is where government has to step in and force street traders out so real estate developers can build shops designed to the value of a place. Such that high traffic commercial streets like Unizik Junction should see high value commercial property built to attract monied retailers who can afford the rents and build attractive stores to replace primitive barrow hawkers and mat sellers. Such that Unizik Junction should be lined with attractive restaurants, shoe shops, grocery shops, among some of the things street sellers sell there. For poverty alleviation especially for the class of rural dwellers who throng the cities daily bringing their wares of fruit and vegetables what ANSG should do is find open air spaces within enclosed grounds where these sellers can several times a week in the afternoon and evening go to display their produce. For example, in Awka part of the massive stadium ground can be used for this purpose. 2 Likes |

Free Export/Import Duties, Tax Rebates Await Investors In Nnewi Automotive Industrial Park – FG. The Federal Government, ever interested in seeing the Nnewi Automotive Industrial Park become functional as soon as possible, has promised mouth-watering incentives to both local and international investors interested in being part of the landmark project. This was made known to the appreciative audience by the Director General of Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA during the round-table conference held at the Conv-Aj Event Centre in Nnewi on May 11, 2018. The Hon Chris Azubogu-initiated project, which is at an advanced but critical stage of accomplishment, has attracted keen interests from both local and international investors, professionals and politicians. The legislator representing Ekwusigo/Nnewi North/Nnewi South Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber had informed the selected audience that over 70 capable local investors are already angling for full participation once the stage to do so is advanced. Those investors must have been pleased to hear the DG Emmanuel Jime, say affirmatively that at this stage of the project that a legal framework will be prepared by NEPZA, which would outlay a clear cut operational policy. ‘’Having procured land free of all encumbrances for the project, the automotive industry must have infrastructures like 24/7 power availability, a raw material base, which is mainly steel – resuscitating our steel industry is very paramount, portable water, access roads and skilled workforce. NEPZA understands that the state and federal governments are already working in collaboration to provide these infrastructures within the actualization time frame. ‘’However, the major incentives to would-be investors are already mapped out by NEPZA. The authority will incorporate the Nnewi Automotive Industrial Park into one of the country’s industrial free zones, thus allowing investors to benefit from the numerous incentives such zones enjoy. These incentives include: Low-interest easy access to loans at very liberal conditions; Duty-free importation of raw materials; Duty-free exportation of finished products; Exemption from all forms of local government, state and federal taxes, levies for a reasonable time within operation. ‘’It is also the responsibility of NEPZA to involve other agencies of government like SON, NAFDAC, etc and of course present the legal document through the Federal Ministry Of Trade And Investment to the president for final approval. But be rest assured, Mr. President is very passionate about this project and won’t waste time to endorse our package,’’ Mr. Jime informed. He equally congratulated Hon Azubogu for his foresight and passion towards the dream and actualization of the project and further advised that aggressive marketing is needed from Nigerian Investment Promotion Council, NIPRO in order to attract the right investors as the automotive industry is a very competitive market. The event which attracted many foreign partners from United Nations Industrial Development, Organisation, Mehindra from India that produced the Project’s plan and others from Holland, Japan, etc also witnessed the strong representation of the state government. The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu led commissioners of Budget & Planning and Trade & Commerce in persons of Hon Mark Okoye and Christian Madubuko respectively. The traditional rulers of all the fifteen communities within the constituency were all present and of course those of the three communities of Akwa Ihedi, Unubi and Uga that provided the 80 hectares of land for the gigantic project. 5 Likes 1 Share

Obiano waited patiently until his second term to start stepping on people's toes. That was a smart political move. Now that he knows that he will not run for reelection again, he has more leverage to do unpopular but necessary things. 2 Likes |
