Work on the Second bridge across the River Niger has been accelerated.

Staff reporter, Ogochukwu Oranu who visited Okoh town in Delta state , and Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra state, where the bridge transverses, reports that heavy construction equipment , and Scientists were seen there.

Also seen was a team of Engineers laying beams that will carry the bridge as well as other construction works.

According to the report, a reliable source from Julius Berger, the construction company handling the project, explained that the second Niger Bridge, starts from Asaba Airport to Benin Expressway, linking Okoh and Amakom which will serve as the gateway to Odekpe and Atani respectively in Ogaru Local Government Area and then links the interchange at Obosi in Idemili North local Government Area, which is under the stage one of the project.

The source further disclosed that the Second Niger Bridge which the ground breaking ceremony was performed four years ago by former President Goodluck Jonathan, was awarded under public private partnership, adding that early work one and two , is carried out under the agreement by the present administration which decided to extend the project in a conventional way and re-awarded it under the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing , therby bridging the financial responsibility and brought Julius Berger back to site to carry out the early work three.

It was also gathered from the source that in February this year, early work four which was awarded has been executed up to forty percent.

It is expected that the Federal Government will award the contract for the main work to commence between now and August.

Conjectures and silly lies without a single verifiable source of the cork and bull stories.

Today, i realized how confused our leaders were in the Nnewi mall where parking lot above a shopping mall where people will always visit. Instead of putting the parking under the mall, so that the less heavy building is on top, while the heavier parking lot with lots of vehicles are below the building.

Sometimes, i ask God why oyinbo man is a lot smarter than the black man? Our engineers reason no better than roadside mechanics. If they calculated the relative weight, they would have advised the state government properly on the folly of building suspended parking lots in the air above an Nnewi mall. Things of simple common sense such as these are too difficult for us to understand. Now they can't finish the building because the amount of concrete it would take to have a suspended parking lot in the air is outrageous for the state to afford. Not to mention that such structure will naturally collapse on a busy day when the entire parking space is filled to the brim with parked cars. The overbearing weight of cars, the poor Dangote concrete type and the cheap iron rods bought by the contractor to save construction cost will inevitably lead to a tragic collapse when people are inside the Nnewi mall shopping.

You have obvious self-esteem issues; if you think you're inferior to white people, that is your problem.

Where are the plans for this mall?

Chima, I totally agree the parking lot should be on the ground while the mall is on top. It makes every sense to do it that way.
But it might be too late to change the plan now. I don't think cars can drive in the ground floor meant for the store. The huge pillars are already in place. I think they should just make it a two storey mall and use the topmost floors for banks, a world class restaurant etc to recoup their construction cost in sinking those huge pillars hoping to build an elevated parking garage

This issue has been hammered and discussed in 2014. Four years after, the mall is yet to be delivered.

the mall is pending because of intra Nnewi issue based on how the government procured the land without due process.

Nnewi people insisted and want thr land back besides Nnewi people planned to use the land for d same purpose before government acquired it through the wrong source..

i think the land is going back to Nnewi people...

The always working Governor Willie Obiano inspected irrigation works at the 5000 hectares Rice farm at Ubahuekwem, Ihiala on 28th February, 2018 less than 24hrs after inspecting same kind of Central Pivot irrigation works at Ogbaru the previous day.

The farm in Ihiala is expected to generate 120,000 metric tonnes of Rice within 2 cycles in a year and also create more than 5000 jobs for the Youths in Ihiala.

Curiously, the Ogbaru farms is just 5KMs away from Ubahuekwem Ihiala. The contractor handling the Ubahuekwem-Ogbaru road promised to complete road construction linking both villages in less than 2 years. This will definitely open up that area.

Recall the Governor was at this same Ubahuekwem Ihiala some less than a month ago to inspect the road construction work from Ubahuekwem to Ogbaru.

Movement from Ihiala to Onitsha via Ogbaru after the construction might have been completed will become as seamless as anything.

Governor Willie Obiano is simply marvelous. His vision for Agriculture in Anambra State is deeply infectious.

This is the type of news i expect from our beloved anambra not posting pictures of a filing station that adds no value to our people. My projection is that If these rice projects come into stream anambra may be among the top 3 rice producers in this country.

Anambra Govt Restates Commitment Towards Developing Art Industry
18 MAY 2018

The Commissioner for Indigenous Artworks, Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Sally Mbanefo, has re-stated the State government’s commitment to improving the Art Industry through investments.

The Commissioner stated this during a meeting with some researchers in her office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex in Awka.

The group was led by Professor Paul Bash, a Professor from a London University.

Mrs Mbanefo while welcoming the group said that Anambra is the right place to be in terms of Arts and Culture adding that it is home to many talented individuals.

The Commissioner also added that she discovered new young talents, who needed to be harnessed and empowered to bring them to limelight.

Earlier Professor Bash who said that the aim of the visit was to intimate the state government of their intention to portray artifacts and contemporary arts in the state through exhibitions, called for collaboration and support of the government for their exhibitions.

Two University teachers, Professor Ikwuemesi of the University of Nigeria Nsukka and Dr Okechukwu Nwafor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka who were part of the delegation, said that the state had compelling stories to tell in the Arts industry

World Bank Approves Over N10B For More Erosion Control Projects In Anambra
18 MAY 2018

WRITTEN BY EJIKE ABANA
Over ten billion naira erosion fund has been approved by the World Bank through the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, for intervention in additional four erosion sites in the State.

While explaining recent activities of the Ministry to newsmen in his office, in Awka, the Commissioner for Environment, Architect Michael Okonkwo, who announced this, disclosed that State government, in its pro-activeness has since provided its own counterpart fund.

The Commissioner while enumerating the sites to include Nkpor Flyover, Ire Village Obosi, Enugwu-Ukwu, and Abidi Village Umuoji, said that more interventions have become necessary as the State is now the smallest in terms of land mass due to erosion menace, calling for preventive measures including tree planting.

On the ongoing demolition of illegal structures and drainage distilling in the State, Commissioner Okonkwo stressed that the joint action by Ministries and agencies, is in line with the extant law of the State and restated that the Ministry will re-activate sanitary inspectors, to check defaulters.

Reiterating the need for street traders to make use of empty shops in markets all over the State, the Commissioner stated that State government will soon invoke the extant law that makes it the responsibility of shop owners to clean their drainage, saying that failure to comply will result to prosecution by State government.

He explained that the Ministry is working out modalities to re-arrange the waste management system of the State, cautioning against illegal mining activities to ensure environment sustainability.

Speaking on encroachment on forest reserves by people who pressumed that such reserves are abandoned property, Architect Mike Okonkwo warned that doing so will attract prosecution according to the law, and revealed that the Ministry will soon carve out an agency that will take care of parks, gardens and beautification of the State, to concretize the Governor's vision of a healthier, more beautiful and prosperous Anambra.

Commissioner Okonkwo, who called for partnership with Ndi Anambra to achieve the vision and mandate of the present administration, pointed out that the Ministry, under his watch will witness a lot of innovation, among which is seeking out ways to convert waste to wealth, as against merely waste movement from one point to another which which he said leads to environmental degradation.

Art Guru : The fast growing Arts and crafts industry in Nigeria. Working on " IGBOUKWU BRONZE POT " commissioned by the ANAMBRA state government.
About the work: The archaeology of Igbo-Ukwu revealed bronze artifacts dated to the 9th century A.D. which were initially discovered by Isiah Anozie in 1939 while digging a well in his compound in Igbo-Ukwu , an Igbo town in Anambra State , Nigeria . As a result of these finds, three archaeological sites were excavated in 1959 and 1964 by
Thurstan Shaw which revealed more than 700 high quality artifacts of copper, bronze and iron, as well as about 165000 glass, carnelian and stone beads, pottery, textiles and ivory. They are the oldest bronze artifacts known in West African and were manufactured centuries before the emergence of other known bronze producing centers such as those of Ife and
Benin . The bronzes include numerous ritual vessels, pendants, crowns, breastplates, staff ornaments, swords, and fly-whisk handles.
Today the replica of the bronze pot on fiber glass commissioned to sculptor/ceramist ILOH IZUCHUKWU by the ANAMBRA state government for preservation and documentation of Igbo's culture has been completed. Art Guru Nig. 08034370733. God is our secret
