most of you have failed to identify the bane of this senseless domination, its ISLAM. Islam is not a religion, its a political ideology. deep yourself into the history of Islam, ull find out that where ever Muslims are minority, dy aim for political dominance cux dats d only way to spread d ideology. have u ever heard of Christian republic of, Hindu republic of, Baha'i replublic of? even in Japan that is majority Shinto don't call themselves Shinto republic of. Islam is a tyrant ideology that it takes total control of the life of its follower. such as culture which encompasses eating, meals, dressing, language, beliefs, etc. Islam is the sole reason y fulanis are still on top up until now because their subordinates first identify themselves as Muslims before there respective ethnicities. they don't integrate into your society, dy don't accept your culture, dy allow their sons to marry your daughters but forbid their daughters to marry your sons. incase of future uprising, dy will inter-marry with the kafirs & ppl of other ethnicity so as to prevent it. that's y Yorubas are confused, you're a Christian but your uncle 1 is a Muslim & uncle 2 is a pagan. be wise... I'll never practice a religion/ideology that was passed on to my forefathers through war, coercion & deceit. 19 Likes 5 Shares |

ballerin:Politics or not, how can a man deny his tribe and ancestral heritage publicly because of politics, it tells a lot on the person. Amaechi is Ikwerre and he is saying that he is Igbo, those at the forefront of pushing that Ikwerres are denying their being Igbo are people of SW through media propaganda, tell me one Ikwerre man that have said publicly that he is not Igbo, don't quote faceless social media where many yorubas disguise as Ikwerres. Even in Rivers state official website it was stated that Ikwerres are Igboid group. 5 Likes |

Nwades: See Pot calling kettle black. The I G B O S. have been the greatest symbols of Cowardice in the history of the Nation. Why did Ojukwu a war lord not stay and fight on instead of leaving the people he foolishly led into war and went on exile. And there after living large and in peace while the morons he led into war languished in hunger and pains. Yorubas would not do that. An example of Yoruba's bravery is MKO , he came back when he remembered 'The son of whom he was" he came back and died fighting. That is an act of bravery! Talking about Kanu calling the Yorubas cowards. And by the way where is he presently? Gone far away into hiding. When the light skinned "Dundee" heard the sound of gun shots. It is only typical of you guys to chest beat even when your heart is pounding for fear. Before you make fun of others check your life properly and recheck again and again because the ppl you are mocking might have a better life than yours. A word is enough... 9 Likes 2 Shares |

Y0ruba:This one na your own yoruba version abi, history book did not capture this, Usman dan fodio spread Islam in Nigeria. Fulani brought Islam into western Nigeria, it is on record, it is even said that the fulani scholars gave the name yoruba to yorubas. If actually that Yorubas are practicing Islam before the fulanis came, then why is it that the number of yorubas practicing Islam decreases from Ilorin to Ondo, North to South trend 1 Like |

Y0ruba:^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ This info is very true! From the historical archives, the first mosque in Yorubaland was in Iwo town in the present Osun State... or State of Osun over 500 years ago. This was even before Uthman DanFodio was born. Islam first came from Mali to Yorubaland and that is why Yorubas referred to Islam as "esin imale". Esin Imale means "Religion of Mali." Yoruba Muslims now prefer to be called "musulumi" instead of the former "imale." There were also slaves of Northern origin in Yorubaland who tended to the horses that Oyo Empire imported via Nupe country to build a very powerful military cavalry, but the weakening of Yorubaland through internal disagreements of high-ranking officials and ruling class in the Oyo Empire just like in Nupeland led to enemies from outside taking advantage of the situation to strike! Nobody would have dared the Yoruba/Oyo Empire if there was UNITY... and this lesson of unity must be strictly followed to succeed in life... either in the family, business, nationhood etc. All the best! 10 Likes 1 Share |

Odingo1:^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^ @Odingo I'm not a Muslim, but I have deep historical knowledge of your question. Islam has been in Yorubaland for over 500 years starting from Iwo town where the first mosque can still be seen. I have seen some deeply ignorant people online who taunt the Yoruba that it was the Fulani that brought Islam to Yorubaland. This is ABSOLUTELY false! Islam came to Yorubaland from the Malian clerics in Iwo over 500 years ago before Dan Fodio's great-grand parents were even born! Yoruba language also used to be written in Arabic scripts in the palace records of the Oyo Empire, just like in the Hausa or Habe Palaces of the Sarkis pre-Fulani invasion in Northern Nigeria /Niger Republic, and the Ashanti Empire where Ashanti language was written in Arabic and Hausa[Ajami] too in Nigeria. Ajami is the Arabic that you see on the Naira notes. It is actually Hausa written in Arabic scripts. Now, the MAJORITY of indigenes of Lagos State, Ogun State, Oyo State, Osun State, Yoruba Kwarans [12 of the 16 LGAs in Kwara are Yoruba -owned. 2 LGAs are Nupe-owned, and 2 LGAs are Bariba-owned], are Muslims! Then you have adherents of other religions from the Christian groups, to the adherents of Ifa, and other religions that Yoruba people practice like Buddhism, Eckankar, Grail Movement, Bahai faith, etc. Ondo State, Ekiti State, and Okun-Yoruba of Kogi State have MORE non-Muslims than Muslims! The late iconic lawyer from Ondo Town in Ondo State comes from a Muslim family for example. If you look at the population census of Lagos Island that was done in the 1890s, you will discover that adherents of the Yoruba Religion or Ifa were in the MAJORITY, followed by Muslims, and the Christian groups less than 3000. I was reading a history book that was published in the 1960s about Nigeria, and came across demographic statistics of the population census of the 1950s and it indicated that in the West, adherents of the Yoruba religion were more than even the Christians [same with the Middle Belt of Nigeria]. This is why you still see people retaining their original family names till today such as [Ifa as prefix] Fasola or Ifasola, Fayemi or Ifayemi, Falomo or Ifalomo, Ogundipe, Awolowo which has "Awo" as a prefix, Awomolo or even Awori which is the name of the largest indigenous sub-group of the Yoruba in Lagos State, parts of Ogun State and Benin Republic. I hope this info helps everyone! 5 Likes 3 Shares |

Obdk: Odingo1: 1. Actually, if you had a good reading culture, you would find in explorers’ journals such as Clapperton & Landers; missionary papers such as Bowen & Hinderer; and local historical records such as Samuel Johnson & the mosques in Yoruba land before Afonja. So, no, it is not a typical Afonja changing narrative nor is it my version, these are records written by Europeans but only that you people, like many Nigerians, read social media sfuff rather than proper books. 2. Islam is much more pronounced in Ilorin because the Yoruba there spend much more time trying to be much more Fulani than being a muslim. Iwo is much more of a muslim town than Ilorin but you’ll hardly know in their appearance because they try harder to be more muslim in religion than becoming Fulani/Hausa in appearance. Same goes for numerous Yoruba towns with large muslim presence which, to a stranger like yourself, are less pronounced because they have not let religion subsume their cultural identity like the folks in Ilorin. 4 Likes 4 Shares |

ballerin:Actually Yoruba muslims should show us where this mosque was located in Osun 500yrs ago and how they have been practicing Islam with facts, from history books in Nigeria we where told that Usman dan fodio came to Nigeria and spread Islam from the North to northern fringe of yorubaland, that is why Islam is found more at the northern part of yorubaland and it decreases downward to Ondo and very small in Edo where it terminate. Christianity increases from Eastern Nigeria down to Yorubaland also and the north. Fulani people also boast about how they introduce Islam to Yorubas openly without any objection in any manner both written or verbally from yoruba muslims, one notable Fulani man even said it openly in an interview media chat that when they came to Ilorin that they kill the locals and force them to abandon their Idol worshiping and embrace Islam, it is all there in national newspapers. 1 Like |

Odingo1:^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^ This your information is NOT correct! Islam was already in Hausaland, Kanuriland and Yorubaland before Uthman Dan Fodio or even his grandparents were born. The advanced history books have this information! Oyo Empire was very powerful from trading as far as Jenne,Timbuktu in Mali, Ghana, Northern Nigeria, and with the Europeans, so the Malian Muslim clerics came to Iwo and you will see the FIRST mosque in Yorubaland there... Over 500 years old. Dan Fodio's so-called jihad started in 1804! All those Social Studies books don't capture advanced Nigerian histories. They are just meant for simplistic Primary School education. I hope this helps! P.S. Please Note: Yoruba is derived from "Oyo Oba" [Oyo Empire]. It is NOT a Hausa word! Although the Hausas referred to the people of Oyo Empire as "Yarbawa" a "corruption" of Oyo, just like they refer to themselves as "Hausawa." This is similar to the Hausa "corruption" of English words now in use in formal Hausa language such as: Mechanic, Government, Radio, etc. ENGLISH HAUSA TRANSLATION 1] GOVERNMENT Gwamnatin 2] MECHANIC Makaniki 3] RADIO Rediyo The "Yoruba" spelling is closer to "Oyo Oba." A lot of falsehood is online and the young ones have to get second and third opinions about historical facts because there are propagandists, and very ignorant tribalistic supremacists out there. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

Odingo1: Islam in Yoruba isn't even north to South but more West to East trend. Okun Yorubas for example are Northwards, but to the eastern part, and they are majority Christian. That’s how you’ll know that Islam has been in the Oyo empire (Western Yorubaland) brfore the Sokoto jihad. 5 Likes 1 Share |

You have spoken the bitter truth about the Hausas. It may shock you to know that am one of them. The fulanis used religion to dethrone our Hausa kings and my people stupidly allowed it. Till world's end I refuse to accept Fulani dominance over me, it may not change anything but still I'll pass this truth down my line. The Hausa culture is almost dead due to this nonsense, what we have today is fulani culture portrayed in dances and Islamic monarchs dressed like Arabs. The Amirs have replaced our Sarakuna. Very few people know the original Hausa culture like our one week long traditional weddings, harvest festivals, e.t.c. I wish I can turn back the time and give sense to my people just before the Dan Fodio Fulani Jihad, the world would have known the real Hausa man and not the zombies we have today. ballerin:^^^^^ ^^^^^ Absolutely @ballerin! The Egbas ALONE were able to defeat Dahomey 3 good times in the 1800s. Ibadan military might also defeated the Fulani/Yoruba Muslim forces in Osogbo, Otun-Ekiti, and some other battles [Jalumi War on November 1st, 1878] towards the borders between Osun and Kwara where the "Fulani" were defeated again. But Ibadan was also fighting other Yoruba subgroups on other battlefronts. If the Yoruba had not been suspicious of one another after the political rumblings in the Oyo Empire... and they had combined their military forces based on the sophisticated weapons that they had(Schneider Guns and Canons/Gun powder), they would have defeated any invader with ease and taken the war to Sakwato (Sokoto) and inflicted casualties on the so-called jihadist invaders. 4 Likes 3 Shares |

abdulwastecx:^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ You are very correct @ abdulwastecx In fact there are records of Yoruba Muslims in the Brazilian population in the 1800s. Islam was already being practiced in Yorubaland even in Ilorin before the Fulani-led jihad in 1804. I'm not a Muslim, but the truth has to be told. People don't read advanced history books or archival materials that are even available in Brazil, Cuba, and the U.S.A about Africans who where captured as slaves and brought to the Americas. Did you know that there was a Yoruba-Muslim rebellion/revolt in Brazil [Bahia] in the early 1800s simply because they were NOT allowed to do their Islamic prayers? History is VERY important!
