idifu:

what about those that are not literatessad? they should fix the entire country once and for all
that is why provision of jobs both skilled and unskilled is what the govt ought to consider instead of doling out a paltry sum to graduates in the midst of abundant uneducated youths.

I think graduates should not wait to be grounded. I believe opportunies is all around us, we only need to see beyond our current circumstances. We are no longer in the industrial age, but information age. Internet has its riches, dig and discover. Look out for people that are doing well, connect with them and be ready to work hard.

All hope is alive, we believe God is solidly behind our new president. It is well

This will be good, at least it will make them reduce the amount they embezzle but I wonder how applicable it will be because pensioners pensions and gratuity are still not paid.

I think the problem will be how to identify the true Nigerians. We have no means of identifying ourselves, so the implementation will be very very challenging

Let them pass the law. Like people have said and rightly so, they cannot implement it!

Is it not the same government that cannot pay workers salary on time? or the same government that cannot pay pension on time despite the fact that in the year 2010, some people still earn 480Naira, yes, that is four hundred and eighty naira as pension!

Abeggi. I support that the law should be passed but I knwo it cannot be implemented. Common IT money them no dey pay on time.
Re: Senate Proposes N15,000 Monthly Salaries For Unemployed Graduates, Aged by Nobody: 8:48pm On Jun 05, 2010
Slowly slowly. Too slow, they are moving too damn slow. The people manipulating disenfranchised youths are moving really fast. Religious organizations and political organizations are very fast. If this goes through, we will see the government serious about getting the youths jobs that pay more than 30k a month. And for the seniors, well we'll stop hearing them curse the nation and start blessing it. That's good enough.

The person who brought this up is an idiot and should go and sit down and find something else to do ? What makes an unemployed graduate different from all other unemployed Nigerians ? Are graduates more human and other people no better than dogs ? Instead of making plans to provide more employment opportunities they want to increase inflation by giving out free money. I think it is guilty conscience that is worrying them since they are also sitting there in Abuja doing nothing and taking home millions every month, why not give also the dogs N15,000 each free money so they will not be able to complain again. Idiots

How about investing in gov't industries that would create jobs?

I don't believe in handouts in the U.S. and it shouldn't be in Nigeria either. The Welfare states are all failing.

Exactly my thoughts, Greece has failed the rest of Europe is going along, the U.S. is failing as well. Anything that has welfare attached to it is failing. How about we not be like them?

How about we truly do invest?

It's not like graduates are not willing to work. I will support a scheme that will provide funding for them to start their business, but to give them handouts I don't agree with. It's going to lead to a mentality that the government is responsible for our daily bread.

What would be their Data base? Hw would they establish the true umemployed graduates? if this must be implemented, they must also consider those earning below 15k/month. then, yu can be sure 70% the Nigerian youth will fall into this circle.

For me, Nigeria is not yet ripe for this. 90% of the money will end up in private pockets. lipsrsealed

It can be seen that even some Nigerians are an enemy of social progress for their own people. How can someone/parents that survived on welfare aid starts talking nonsense about the programme we are expecting for long?

Anywhere  in the world there is always mismanagement of welfare fund and people keep deceiving the government to get the assistant even though they are not qualified for one, but these reasons are not a wall for the government not to do the right thing at the right time.

FGN we need it ASAP.
Re: Senate Proposes N15,000 Monthly Salaries For Unemployed Graduates, Aged by wazobiang: 9:53pm On Jun 05, 2010
this is good. it will be taken advantage of in the beginning. we should not relent. in the end when 'their (dem politicians) money' becomes 'our money' everybody involved will help fish out the corrupt individuals that want to take advantage of it.

this is a step in the right direction. things seem to be moving well.

These senators are missing it again!!!Who constitutes 'unemployed in Nigeria'?Which data are we going to relly on?Where are you going to get the names? Can any Nigerian earning below N10,000 be part of this? What of 'ghost' unemployed syndrome? These guys just want us to talk. The solution to a blind man is not to buy him new glasses, but to give him sight.Nigeria can still generate employment in reactivating and injecting fresh blood into the civil service, the railways, the steel sector, agricultural sector and agro-related products, massive recontruction of infrastructure and attendant jobs, value added services, etc. etc. There are so many jobs that the government can create.I have never believed that government can't create jobs, the private sector dont have the kind of money that our government can muscle within a short time.
Re: Senate Proposes N15,000 Monthly Salaries For Unemployed Graduates, Aged by kobikwelu(m): 10:04pm On Jun 05, 2010
this would just be a cesspit venture for trillions, oops i meant kajillions of nairas to be ciphoned  by the politicians for next year's election

even with NYSC  documentations, ghost graduates would be created,

what is the mode/scope of the project,

a guy that left school 10 years ago and is not officially working but has a business, can still go and queue for his own 15k

this is a wild goose  chase (anyway am not surprised, Nigeria is a big circus where clowns rule),

for such a scheme to work, you need statistics (which we dont have), proper records to indicate when a graduate has been taken off the labour market,
its just like a welfare/socialist state,

if they fit reason, those billions that they would spend as handouts should be put in electricity generation , so as to  resuscitate our industries, which in turn would provide much more contentment than 15k (which considering our spiraling inflation would be used up in a week)

Believe me even the bill is passed and maybe implemented; it can hardly stand the test of time we all know how things work around here. i think it is best if these resources are channeled towards creating employment.

I don't think this is a good idea. There are too many unemployed graduates in Nigeria. The government should be concentrate on giving incentives to employers to higher graduate and create jobs for people. Nigerian leaders need to start thinking about the future. Thats the problem with Africans. We only worry about the now. This is a good idea for the short term, but it's not a good idea for long term. The money they are going to spend on graduates could be use to for the things i listed above. This will not the country in the long haul.
Re: Senate Proposes N15,000 Monthly Salaries For Unemployed Graduates, Aged by DARA1234: 11:36pm On Jun 05, 2010
This will be great hope it comes to light, we also need to improve our tax policy and follow the lagos example, we need something like the Social security number of USA or National Insurance no of UK, with this taxes can be monitored and benefits given to those who deserve it.Also gov needs to be transparent with their expenditure, each ministry should detail its expenditure as it spends it on its web site.

i strongly beg to differ on ds arrant nonsense the NA is proposing.

supporting dt wld mean subtitutin one  bad idea for another, whereas we have a third option of injecting same monies as stimulus package to revive core national assets before selling them off. i guess that wld create better wealth for the nation as whole and many individuals and bodies. whats d point inventin another excuse for massive stealing of money? after sharing the money will there be light,, employment, and better healthcare services? we want to take these means of aquisition and development and share into everyones pocket to filll the hunger of today without considerin the perilous consequences of it tomorrow? is that how we plan our national development?

i will be suprised if those supportin this hare brain born idea really mean it, because it is just too toxic for our national development future
Re: Senate Proposes N15,000 Monthly Salaries For Unemployed Graduates, Aged by homerac7: 11:55pm On Jun 05, 2010
still talkn about it, so when the future comes and we ahvent developed, who shall blame who? in other words, the reason most of us complain and critisize the leaders is simply because we havnt got our share of the money they r stealin, not because we wanted the money properly utilized for national developmental projects, are we not all culpable with such thought pattern? i am no being insensitive to plight and challenges of unemployed and senior citizens, i only suggest that senior citizens can have access to free healthcare once they are above certain age irrespective of the ailment, tax waivers for certain class of industrial needs, aggressive mechanization of the middlebelt and north where most of our food are produced, stimulate local manufacturing industries, make more monies available for SMEs, all these from these supposed welfare money and lets see if it wldnt make better impact that handing the cash out
Re: Senate Proposes N15,000 Monthly Salaries For Unemployed Graduates, Aged by honeric01(m): 12:04am On Jun 06, 2010
Who are all these people shouting OUR money since morning? which money be your money self? if it's truly your money, how come you don't own 10kobo from it?

You lot better wake up, it's not your money and never your money, it's better you lot look for a way to make this shit work, at least 50% of the real people (the worthy recipients) would end up accessing the money and they sure would be grateful.

Imagine old people knowing that they have =N=15,000 somewhere coming to them every month? won't that reduce their HBP by 80%?

even if it's going to be stolen (as if una don do anything about the numerous ones being stolen every freaking day), i know for sure that half of the money go make am to the real recipients.

One more thing, with this in place, it is going to give the youth more boldness to demand for their rights once they don't see the money in their accounts for few months.
Re: Senate Proposes N15,000 Monthly Salaries For Unemployed Graduates, Aged by honeric01(m): 12:17am On Jun 06, 2010
And for those shouting about how to identify the real Graduate, as a graduate, you must have a result from a university/polytechnic/college of education or any other tertiary institution approved by the government, all the government need do is to verify the authenticity of the certificate.

Another way is the NYSC certificate, where you served, names of your cor-coordinators, year, provision of at least 10 co-corper's signatures.

Another one is to see all your school results from primary to tertiary.

As for how to know if you have gotten work or not, they can actually use this scheme registration to set up a new data base for all fresh and jobless graduates, this database's going to serve as a reference to all gruadates and would be used regularly to check if any of the graduates has gotten a job or still jobless, of course with the help of having all private and public companies  staff's database sent to the government 2 or 4 times in a year to always run a check on.

lastly, while they establish this, we can now continue clamoring for Job creation or if government can't create jobs, they should give suitable amount of loan to every graduate willing to go solo (entrepreneur) with a feasible repayment plan.

if they can provide some of these youth with loan of about =N=500k-=N=2m, i bet most of them would abandon the Social welfare in pursuit of becoming a financially independent citizen.

Infact, the government can even help those with real business idea with about =N=500k-=N=2m without having to pay back, all they have to do is to put their names in special database and should be monitored specially so as not to waste the funds or crash the business.

But then, do we have people who can think like this in the helm of affairs in this country?
