Not bad hearing it for the first time - very catchy beat at times but not iconic. It's got that one afrobeats element I hate the most though... AUTOTUNE cry. How do u guys cope at concerts when your artists have to use their real voices undecided? I get a sense they don't have good voices and they use autotune to mask that. Plus i was expecting effortless SA type dancing.

Anyway, I guess it's much nicer in Naija where u understand the words and undertones.
chai

Im beginning to think you're obsessed with autotune cheesy
like how exactly was autotune used on that song?

go and listen to live versions of those artistes
autotune or not

Dude, I'm not even into amapiano (can't even name one artist in SA) but some of the songs are catchy, I must admit. I salute our boys and gals for coming up with a unique sound anyway and not copying afrobeats like the rest of Africa following Nigeria like sheep grin - that's how we roll in SA... trendsetting cool Anyway, i listen to western and afro pop most of the time but i'll check out Southy Love just now.

other African countries have nice genres too
Congo Cameroon etc

I really love master KG

trendsetting??
how many trends have you set?

give me your favourite western and afropop songs
I can deduce what kinda person you're

We did kwaito first cool. We did House first cool. We did Gqom first cool. We doing amapiano first cool. Meanwhile, afrobeats is a West African sound not uniquely Nigerian, whereas all SA genres originate in SA. Even in SA afrobeats didn't take over like it did in the rest of Africa coz House and Gqom were holding the fort.

The only Master KG song I know is Jerusalema - like I said, I rarely listen to that music unless I'm in the club.

Right now I have these songs on repeat:

Western
1. Arcade by Duncan Laurence
2. Black Eyed Peas, Shakira - Girl Like Me
3. Good Things Fall Apart by Illenium
4. Call Me By Your Name by Lil Nas X
5. Willow by Taylor Swift

African (I'm listening to classics since electronic music has now taken over)
1. Anything Zahara, Nathi, Vusi Nova
2. Sho Madjozi, Majozi, Jozi (all different artists)

Nigerian songs on my phone playlist:
1. Nwa Baby by Flavour
2. Particula by Major Lazer

Try them all out at some point.

Listen, there are other things I like from Nigeria but afrobeats is not one of them. You'll just have to respect my freedom of choice - it's a human right.

Do u mean how can YOU learn? Yeah, try apps. The most popular languages in SA are Zulu, Afrikaans, Xhosa and Sotho. But it depends on the province you wanna visit or live in. Certain languages won't help much in specific provinces. But anyone of these are understood in Gauteng province (Johannesburg).

This many language in one country. Do u guys have a language that is somewhat like pidgin, u use in communicating generally. Like Nigeria, pidgin is dat language all tribes/ethnic group understands perfectly well.

You apparently want to spoil me but I will refuse to be spoilt.

For the fact that, nasty and immoral things are done in the western countries doesn't mean it is right and civil.

My former SA colleague was a huge fan of Asa back around 2010. I think that was the height of her success. She's a Tracy Chapman type, isn't she?

No, they're very different.

1. Afrikaans originates from Dutch in the Netherlands and is popular with whites and coloureds around the Cape provinces but understood nationwide. Not popular among blacks though.

2. Zulu and Xhosa belong to one language group but Xhosa is more popular around the Cape provinces (see attachment). Zulu is more widely spoken but limited in the northern and central provinces except Gauteng.

3. Sotho is widely spoken around the northern and central provinces, and in Lesotho and Botswana.

As for the apps, it's my first time checking but I see the Playstore has some. Go for apps with a rating over 4 points.

That's coz it really irritates me. Remember SA is a singing nation and have been labelled as having very beautiful voices. So autotune (computer voice) is just an assault on our senses.

Lol, u just hit me with a Nigerian stereotype there about money grin. Couldn't u say I don't even know how to say "hello"?

Anyway, it's good then that you've come up with your own unique African lingua franca which is pidgin.

About learning SA languages, it will be best if you first selected the city you wanna visit or live in and then I would let u know which is the best language to learn.

It's slang, everyone uses them. You get a hang of the slang once you've been in SA for a while.

Wena means You.

The North West province borders Botswana so Tswana is the dominant language here (similar to Sotho) and Afrikaans. English is spoken all over SA.

The province is most known for the world--famous Sun City Resort (see 1st pics). It's got 3 big towns called Klerksdorp (see pic 2) , Mahikeng and Rustenberg. Rustenberg hosted the England vs USA match during the World Cup.

The province is also home to the richest tribe in Africa - the Royal Bafokeng who own platinum mines in the region. The climate is one of the hottest in SA as it is arid, and the lifestyle is more laid back than in the bigger cities.
