Confusion. So much dos and donts here. How would they not milk an ignorant mofo. Nigerian technicians are never known to be sincere, but taking advantage over the unlearned or poor knowledge of the whole thing. May God maintain my electricity supply in Jesus name amen

It can't go bad in a week.

Once the cells are balanced before use and you don't go below the bms cut off voltage, you are good to go.

True talk but the mistake I made was buying 2 200amh dry cell battery should have gone for 2 200amh lithium battery as a friend said it's more powerful and easy to maintain or so

Was also told dry cell battery life span is around 2-3 years while lithium battery is around 5years but I dont know how true it is

Your friend is right. Lithium battery is better but more expensive.

Quality over quantity.

For the freezer I dont know sir, but i noticed one day my wife forgot to switch off the deep freezer in my children room and i was on inverter and the thing was just working jejely for like 1 hour, immediately I noticed, I switch the freezer off

As for the workmanship, it's less than 100,000 because the person collected 150,000 from me and it includes battery rack, installation kits and fee.

The installation kits include all the wires and horse and breakers etc

Please don’t put a deep freezer in children’s room

Where do you people get your alternate facts from. As long as you do not abuse your batteries and try to make sure you do not discharge them up to zero, they will last.
The one I used before, I sold to a friend and he is still using them. This is the third year they have been in use

cheesy grin I'm so dead right now.

Bottom line. Maintenance is everything. Even if na Aba shoes you buy, if you do not maintain properly, they won't last. Simple.

because of its power consumption.

But the way i designed my system.
It doesnt affect me at all.

How did you design your system?
I believe it still boils down to battery life span.

Do you mind sharing?

That fan is an industrial fan. And churches too. It's too much for a sitting room.

Get a Binatone Typhoon series standing fan. It does same work with OX industrial fan. But consume less power

How much of less power?

We need to dey specific here.

The days of buying a fan cos it has a 'nice design' is over.

For me, a fan's wattage should not exceed 40watts at most.

is this the battery kit you paid 150k for with labour, na waoo how can you buy a 200ah battery for that amount, I am using solar for the past one year, with the amount you spent you are suppose to power a complete duplex with at least one fridge and one AC

Greetings.

After seeing a topic that made front page on power situation in Nigeria, I felt it will be necessary to create this thread for EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE ONLY.

Please let's share ideas on this solar installation, cost implications, down side and many more.

I neither sell nor have knowledge of solar system but on 24th December 2022 I engaged someone to install solar for me due to the power situation here in Abuja especially during dry season.

Well to cut the long story short, I decided to go for 3kva inverter with inbuilt charge controller, 4 280w felicity mono panel with 2 200amh dry cell battery with a cost implication of around 1 million

Breakdown:
1. 280w felicity mono panel 84,000 per 1 ( note: the person promised me 300w for 84,000 only for him to bring 280w and the excuse he gave me was that the 300w is not a strong product but felicity product is durable)

2. 3KVA 24V inverter with inbuilt charge controller 290,000

3. Battery 200amh 160,000 per 1 dry cell

4. Battery rack, installation kits and installation charge 150,000

Mind you, I base in Abuja where things are a little expensive, so i believed its possible to get it at a cheaper rate elsewhere.

I did not connect my fridge at all but lighting points are connected, smart TV of 55inche and 45inche are connected and I can use any depending if I am in the seating room or inner room.

DISCOVERY: once it is 6:30pm the solar stop charging via panel and i can use my bulbs and TV and 2 fans for hours (i.e i watch TV from 6:30pm to maybe 9pm before going to bed and i switch on at least 8 bulbs from that 6:30pm till 6:30am the following day when the inverter automatically starts charging again via solar.

I also discover that in this solar installation, having a very good battery will safe you alot and also dry cell battery can go bad even within 2months if installed before and then you disconnect and reconnect after like 2-3month probably due to relocation issue.

Please kindly share your own view without insult let's learn one or two things.

Thanks

How can you spend a million bucks & not be able to use ac? Even with a 70ahms battery you can power those bulbs & your tv for said stipulated time frame without breaking a bank. Omo, e no fresh oh...

Here's my two cents after working as a sales rep and later head of sales for a Solar installation company

1. Lithium battery is the best but most expensive
2. Wet cell batteries are the most requested because they last longer and can be renewed after a couple of years by changing the liquid for small fee
3. Independent installers are destroying the industry by installing low-end products just to cut cost and take low paying jobs. I often hear people say "But someone gave me 250k for a 3KVA system, why is your own so expensive".
4. Always ask for the brand name of the inverter, battery and charge controller you are getting, do your research on them
5. 200ah and upwards are usually the idea capacity of battery you would want for your system else you'll get less back-up time
6. A good solar or inverter system is expensive but worth the price
7. Do not over load your batteries
8. If you have regular power supply (10 -12hrs) then an inverter system should be ideal for you, unless you need something for the rainy days
9. Your battery should last you 2-3 years if utilized properly, mine is on its 5th year at about 70% it's optimum capacity

Lithium Battery, depends on the make and cycle , will last for 10 to 15 years if use correctly. Lithium is way better . I'm using mine with peace of mind, no solar panels yet.
I need more info on this lithium battery. There's this one I got Kartel product 200ah 12v, I had to return it for gel. Pls how's ur configuration?
Re: Solar Inverters: Cost Implication, Durability And Issues by NothingDoMe: 3:19pm On Feb 13, 2023
Mynd44:
Your setup is similar what I used until 2021.

4 320w panels
2.5 KVA inverter and 40A charge controller.
2 dry cell 200amps batteries
It served me well, I used my freezer with it and all the appliances.

Cost: About 650,000 but this was just before lockdown. The week before lockdown

But in 2021, I got an AC and decided to improve on my existing system so I let go the inverter, batteries and charge controller then added more panelspp

Now I run a 5 KVA inverter, 8 320w panels, 60a charge controller and 2 200amps flooded batteries.

It serves the whole flat, freezer, fridge, AC and microwave (all in the afternoon) by 5 I turn it all off and stick to just fans, TV and light bulbs and so.

Oh, I also use mine with my pressing iron but in the afternoon and in extreme conditions

Cost: I really can't say cos everything has gone up now
But then the inverter cost 196k
Each panel (first 4 35k each, last 4, 65k each)
Batteries 140k each
Charge controller 100,000
Rack 20k
Installation, fuse box etc 65k
I have cables at home.

Although I turn off my whole system by 6pm and turn it back on by 8:30 (just cos I might need to get air outside or something)

But when I travel, I leave the unit on and put just the freezer on it. And I can actually go off-grid completely

Even my sugar mummy sponsors get jealous

First picture is my new system.
Second is my old systen
No one in my house respects solar power shedding. I bought timer for the equipments now.

Lol you are totally ruining your system.
2 batteries is not sufficient for any AC let alone pressing iron
At this usuage your solar will not last a year, 2 at most
If you go through his write up again, you will see that he said he uses them in the afternoon, with means direct current from the solar.
I have 1.5kva inverter (Luminous hybrid) and 1000 w panel (250w per1), (2) 100a batteries I use it with my freezer ONLY in the afternoon and TV, dstv and 7 bulbs (5w) from 6.30pm to 10pm every day.
As I am writing now, my freezer is very chilled. It works perfectly.

Ideally 5kva should be 48v (4 batteries system), but as the saying nothing is impossible, in a rear case some Chinese inverter rating comes 5kva/24v
You can do 5kva 8 batteries too.

Pls boss, I'm a novice on this solar thing.
what do they meant by distilled water? Is it regular bottle water or a special water I'll have to buy for the batteries. And if so, pls how much do they sell this water and how many littre does a battery uses and how long would it last?
Thank boss

I stay alone so load shedding is a thing.

My AC has been on since 10am and I am about to turn it off.

I will leave the fridge and freezer on until 5. Then at 6, I will turn the whole unit off.

I will turn it back on by 8:30

I just saw the Timbers on Jumia. I don't need then for now. Maybe if there is a Mrs that won't hear word, I will get the timers

I don't know how much it is sold for. I have never bought because my installer supplies me for free (I bring him customers without a commission so he uses that to say thanks)

Yearly please especially if you live in Warri. The soot, although now reduced thanks to "government", was a nuisance. Panels suffered from reduced efficiency until cleaned.

You have time oo.

Thing is once you understand load shedding, everything becomes easy.

When I said I sometimes use my iron, it is in extreme situations and I have done it just twice in 2 years. For the AC, only when the sun is high and it takes no stress in the battery
