Make: Volkswagen
Model: Golf 3
Engine Size: 1.8
Transmission Type: Manual
Model Year: 1993(my guess)
Specification: I don't know
Problem: 1. fuel consumption has increases, car appears to run and drive as normal. 2. Temperature always exceeding 90 but less than 110 even in cold weather. 3. New Engine oil gets low/short after 7days of replacement(top up before it gets guage again)

Started d car and reversed a bit, then came down 2 open ma gate after which I engaged d drive gear and attempted 2 move forward a bit. The car then shuddered slightly and died. All attempts 2 start it since then have proved abortive.
I have checked d Gas level, its almost full. Checked ma ba3, its fine. Am perplexed. This car is making ma blood pressure sky rocket

Ur assistance is desperately needed.

Sorry to hear you're having issues with your Audi A6 Allroad.

Can you remind me which engine it has? (2.7T or 4.2 V8). And the best way I can help remotely is to decipher DTC's (fault codes). Get the OBD port hooked up to suitable diagnostic equipment, post the codes, and I'll do my best to help.

Model: A4 quattro
Engine: 1.8T
Year model: 2001
Spec: Europe
Transmission: Auto
Drive configuration: AWD
Could this be a probem? Ideas needed from people with experience.
The coolant temperature of this car was aways @ mid mark on the metre(guage), AC or no AC & shortage of the coolant was being noticed, so it has to be topped to get to max mark every 2 days or so.
No physical leak was seen until green colour coolant was used. At this point it was noted that the rubber seal of the temperature switch has melted, so the leak is from there & it was replaced.
After replacement of the rubber seal the coolant level hasn't reduced in about 1 week now. But the issue @ hand is this: the tempereture guage reaches the mid mark once in the morning, maybe after 5 - 8mins of using the car 1st in a day. After a while of staying there, it drops down to the 1st mark on the meter(which i guess is 0) & stays there for rest of the day no matter how hot the weather maybe, AC or no AC. Hope my explanation is understood.
My question: Is this normal or is there any possible malfunction? If normal, that means maybe the engine doesn't operate @ optimal temperature all day. If not what could be responsible? Meanwhile no display to this effect on the dash.
Please any body with idea help out! Thank u.

Just to be clear here - when the temperature drops to the 1st marking on the coolant gauge, is this when the car is on the move, driving at a constant speed (mostly highway)? Or with city and mixed driving, whereby there's a lot of down shifting going on?

Yes when the car is on the move, both in highway(constant speed) and city(mixed) driving. Actually is a source of worry to me.

hello guys, what do u think of an Audi A6,2007 Model,i believe its CVT. Is it a gud car to buy?Is it prone to issues? What are the things to lookout for when buying it? How about the fuel consumption?

Thanks.

kc007: Does it now mean that the thermostat isn't functioning properly?

I'd say the thermostat has failed in the open / partially open position.

For the fact that the temperature reaches the mid mark on the meter/guage b/4 dropping down to the 0 mark doesn't suggest failure @ open/partial open position, otherwise there won't be initial shifting of the pointer. What are other features that can be seen to affirm this? Meanwhile i'l observe it for the mean time.

FSI engines are pretty specialist. It's not your usual EFI, FSI fuel pressure runs extremely high, almost as high as that of a diesel. The fuel lines are larger than normal, and the fuel pump of a normal EFI Audi A6 of the same year will NOT run an FSI engine.

Maintenance is key here. If you're going to use roadside mechanics, or non-franchised garages, then please don't buy the Audi A6!

It is a much better car than the Honda Accord. Class, elegance, safety, innovation - you name it, the Audi has it by the bucketful. And with a galvanised body, you won't find any rust. Audi have been galvanised since 1986, starting with the Audi 80/90 range which was introduced in the autumn of that year.

Service history is important. If there isn't any dealer / specialist history, make sure there are receipts showing work carried out. The 3,2 FSI motor is chain-driven, make sure you start up the engine from cold. It should be quiet,a slight, brief rattle is normal, as the hydraulic tappets and chain tensioners fill with oil. Shouldn't last longer than a few seconds. If it's prolonged, then the engine either needs an oil change, the wrong grade of oil has been used, or the chain tensioner is tired. Replacement of the tensioner AND chains is an engine out job, as the chains are at the rear of the engine.

5w-30 oil is essential, no if's or but's.

The ATF is NOT, and I repeat, NOT the usual ATF Dexron (red) oil. Put that stuff into the transmission, be prepared for heart-stopping bills when it dies shortly after. The ATF is specialist, and either genuine Audi ATF, or Lifeguard 6 MUST be used. No exceptions!

The mileage you state is 100,000. Is that miles or kilometres? Please clarify.

If you own a car like this, I would strongly advise you to get interested in the mechanics and electrics. Buy a Bentley manual - this is pretty much the Bible of modern cars. And decent OBD software - the best, and closest to dealer level is VCDS. Unlike a regular hand held device, VCDS will scan EVERY control module in any modern Audi. The regular handhelds will scan engine only, unless you pay big bucks for high-end equipment. VCDS is laptop-based too, and can code keys, IMMO, ECU, TCU etc. It's the best money can buy for Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen.

You will notice I didn't mention fuel consumption. This is a high-end luxury sedan, with AWD, and loaded with extras that make driving a pleasure. It is a heavy, well-built car. If you really need to ask about gas mileage, then this car is NOT for you. An AWD car will use more gas than a similar-engined car with 2WD.

Can someone verify this comment please

its actually the other way. the gallardo comes with the audi engine. audi technicians designed and developed that v10 engine.

I want to disagree with this comment but I want to be 100% sure, which engine goes into the Gallardo and which engine goes into RS6 and S8 quattro

^^^ from my basic understanding on the thermodynamic system of cars, u need to check if the thermostat is compatible with the tropics

You need to possibly flush the radiator too and use the proper coolant /water combination

i suggest u carry out a comprehensive service of the car by a reliable auto-tech .

@Siena, what is the VCDS equivalent hand held scanner for Mercedes Benz (esp 1998-2000 C200)?
