jcshols: @siena,if the type of fuel indicated on the manual is Premium Unleaded(which to the best of my knowledge isnt available here),what do i do considering also the fact that the previous owner would have been using the regular 9ja fuel on it?The owner claims to service the car with coscharis.

Your high-compression engine is optimised to run on premium unleaded. It will tolerate regular unleaded, though with reduced power output. It will alshave poorer gas mileage. I would suggest an octane booster, if you plan to exploit the engine's performance to the maximum.

Regular unleaded will cause detonation, though with the knock sensors, the igniion timing will be rétarded before the detonation becomes audible. The rétarded ignition timing is what makes the car sluggish, and thirstier when running regular unleaded. It is advisable to avoid using high rpm with regular unleaded, especially with a full load on board, and when climbing steep gradients.

Here we go again - it's not so much about which power steering fluid is best for your car , but which is the CORRECT fluid.

VW G002.
CHF 11-S.

Nothing else is compatible. Put in the normal Dexron, and budget for a new rack AND pump.

Oga Siena,
Could you kindly do a check on this my car for me? U once gave me some details about it but I just can't find it again on NLand. It's a Golf 3 with the following details:
Engine no: ADZ31666Z
chassis no: WVWZZZ1HZTW116514

I tried to run a VIN check on it but it seems not to be returning much details. I want to know the actual engine size and the component of the engine and yr of manufacture. I have used the car for about 10 months now and no major issues.

SIENA PLEASE HELP!
This may be a little long but please with me. Please Put me right if i've done any wrong, because you haven't responded to my posts in a while.
I thought i could proof critics wrong by buying a car i cherished so much. I fell in love with audi a4 after driving golf3, though golf3 was not withouth issues. It had problem of CTS & the model(1992) didn't have OBD port for proper diagnosis. I still use the golf3 anyway.

I ended up acquiring this my love car: audi a4, 1.8T, quattro, 2001 mod, AWD with auto trans. Around same period i got to know about car talk in nairaland, i felt the info available here will help deal with issues that may arise no matter how bad our mechanics maybe.

The present issue i'm having is erratic temperature metre reading, always reaching max mark without purely overheating. This started after a suspected failure of thermostat. The thermostat was temporally removed, but erratic temp reading(reaching) max mark continued.

I took the car for scan & the following codes were pulled:
1. Engine coolant temp sensor (G62): signal too low. Static - no indication on display.
2. Please check DTC memory of instrument cluster. P1654 - intermittent
3. Random multiple cylinder misfire detected P0300 - intermittent
4. Cylinder 2 misfire detected P0302 - intermittent
5. Cylinder 1 misfire detected P0301.

Initial search for this coolant temp sensor wasn't successful.
Ideas from this forum will help me enjoy this my loved car, otherwise i will continue to be in regrets.
I would also like to know any kind of misuse that can cause this type of proble.
Thanks & God bless you.

Bro, of course you haven't offended me in any way. And I still respond to those that I've had issues with, because this is a resource that will help others in future.

Before we go any further, is your Audi A4 1.8T Quattro the model from 1995 - 2001? Or the model from 2001 - 2005?

2001 is written on the manul that came with the car, meanwhile i saw date like 20 9 2000 on the car seatbelt. So i can not categorically say the model year range.
I noticed the coolant temp sensor is the type with green head(which i read is not prone to failure).
I also did a test on the thermostat by leaving it in boiling water for about 2mins, thou there was no thermometer to ascertain the boiling temp but i saw it opened & closed back after removing it from boiling water. With this finding i think the thermostat is ok.

Random multiple misfire would suggest POS (Power Output Stage) issues. This was only fitted to older Audi A4 B5. The later B6 (and last of the B5 models) had POS integrated in the coil packs. This is why it's imperative I know what car you have.

Google Audi A4 - Wikipedia will have pictures of both B5 and B6. You'll at least know what you've got. Or you can post the VIN here, I'll be able to tell what generation of Audi A4 you have, and what model year.

Another CTS was installed and the guage started reading normal.
Meanwhile the thermostat which was initially removed was intalled back again, afterwhich the engine was allowed to run for a while. The temp guage was going beyond mid mark & continuing, @ this point i suspected delay in opening of the thermostat. Another 1 hasn't been installed anyway.

For about 1 week, the car has been running without thermostat. Now the temp metre reaches mid mark(optimal opereting temp) after about 10mins of driving and stays there. The question now is: what will be the difference if a good thermostat is successfully installed?

Another experience within this period: after a day's driving in heavy traffic, the coolant expansion tank was opened the next morning & coolant was noted dropping from water pump area. This stops as you close the tank & drive.
WHAT COULD THIS BE? The mech is suspecting weak water pump.

SIENA; please your expertise opinion will be highly needed here.
These issues have lingered for a while now. Thank you as i look 4ward to seeing your help.

You haven't replaced the defective oxygen sensor - why not?

What is the ATF level like in your transmission? Has it been drained, and changed, along with a new filter? Because dirty oil will cause all manner of transmission issues. If the fluid has been changed, or topped up, what fluid was used?

Your car has a voice?? undecided I don't understand this. Please clarify.

Is your engine turbo, or non-turbo?

When you say your timing belt seems to be faulty, I'm not sure what you mean. If it's due for replacement (every 60,000 miles) then I would advice you get the work done - new belt, idler and tensioner. Heart-stopping bills if it snaps in service.

You mention the belt was noisy, what sort of noise? Does the noise increase with engine rpm? What grade of oil do you use, and is the oil filter replaced at every oil change? If yes, what brand of oil filter do you use?
