Whats the fuss... people wear hijab everyday in Nigeria?!
Well YES, Allhamdullilah!
Hijab is not new or openly fought against in Nigeria. Still some people are still scared of the concept and hence like to condemn / point accusing fingers at muslim women wearing Hijab . So they get to blamed the Hijabis for 9/11, Bokoharam and all sort of crime they know nothing about. To some it is more about their urge to dominate, which they exhibit by trying proof they know better or are empowered to rescue Hijabis from oppression or ignorance. This they do without considering the sister's personal rights, believes or convictions.

Silently our sisters are being bullied in school/ at events/ works/on the road .

What could be the big deal having a piece of cloth over your head?!

You never know what we feel, till you walk in our shoes.

Walī (Arabicولي , plural Awliyā' أولياء), is an Arabic word meaning "custodian", "protector", "sponsor", or authority whom one who may be obey.
and not necessarily your folks. -
Moreso not many people feel confident to have their parent as their walee while the go "spouse hunting" these days,

Towards the event - the organizers would rather deal with the singles themselves (though open to personal walee's input) and  take on the role of their wali to moderate interaction for this purpose only.

@op; the means, that is the social gathering if it follows Islamic jurisprudence and great intention; halal only, it is good and not forbidden. it will not be a bidah, just like flying on airplane is not a bidah. intention is important as well as the way of carrying it out. both must not opposite islam, hence within it. it is halal to marry. it is halal for potential spouses to meet.

@olas2u - well said! pretender are great problems and that were the screening i mentioned comes in- though it might not be 100% proof; but will to a great extent discourage such.

Will you a single muslim or walee to one, welcome this idea:
