Are there no younger men or women in their 40s with fresh ideas whom Nigerians can vote for instead of these old men who have nothing to contribute but their egos?

Politics / Re: France Can’t Fix Your Problem To You – Macron Tells Nigeria by donjohano(m): 1:54pm On Jul 04, 2018
How can France fix any African country's problem when their own colonies are still...colonies:

http://www.worldbulletin.net/haber/152967/french-colonial-tax-still-enforce-for-africa

A couple of quotes from this article:

"When Guinea demanded independence from French colonial rule in 1958, the French unleashed their fury with more than 3,000 leaving the country taking their enteire property. In addition, they destroyed anything that couldn't be taken – destroying schools, nurseries, public administration buildings, cars, books, medicine, research institute instruments, tractors were crushed and sabotaged, animals killed and food in warehouses were burned or poisoned. In effect they were sending a message to all other colonies that the consqueences for jrejecting France would be high."

"As of January 2014, 14 african countries are obliged by France, through a colonial pact, to put 85% of their foreign reserve into France central bank under French minister of Finance control. They are effectively putting in 500 Billion dollars every year to the French treasury. African leaders who refuse are killed or victim of coup. Those who obey are supported and rewarded by France with lavish lifestyle while their people endure extreme poverty, and desperation."

The French have no right to preach to Africa.

In Europe and America, an anklet signifies a married woman who is available for extra-marital sex with other men, with her husband's permission.

Romance / Re: Wife had Tattoo Inked all over her body Without My Consent by donjohano(m): 2:36pm On Apr 15, 2012
If this happens to any husband, simply get a tattoo with some other lady's name without telling your wife. If she asks who the girl is, simply ignore her.

If your name is Yomi, and her new tattoo says Deji, or if your name is Nduka, and her new tattoo says Chuks, then you really have a problem!

Enyeama, our goalie, is still our man of the match, despite this goal. If it weren't for him, we would have been down 4-1.

These oil-producing communities should not act in isolation from each other. If only all oil-producing communities had given support to, for example, the Ogoni people, perhaps tragedy of Saro-Wiwa's execution and that of his comrades could have been averted. Imagine, a united front of all oil-producing communities in Nigeria acting in concert, demanding the basic human rights of environmental hygiene, etc, on behalf of all. I'm not Ogoni, by the way - I'm Igbo.

TV/Movies / Re: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by donjohano(m): 9:23pm On Sep 05, 2007
Have any of you seen Jacob's Cross on DSTV? A South African production with a part-Nigerian storyline? Good production values, a decent script and plot. Why can't we produce material like this - lack of fundng? Lack of imagination? One of my friends is a major Nollywood producer - I'll have to ask him.
Literature / Re: Who Is Your Best Novelist? by donjohano(m): 9:15pm On Sep 05, 2007
Anthills of the Savannah is superb. I'm glad to see some real literature mentioned on this thread as well as the other stuff. Hell, its good to see people taking out time to read any books so I'm not going to be a literary snob. Keep reading y'all! My dad used to buy me comics when I was a kid because he knew that this would encourage me to read books. Wise man. Besides, I also like Grisham and Ludlum as well as Dostoyevsky. Its all good.

I have a learning curve to climb where African literature is concerned. I've read and enjoyed Achebe, Ngugi (very recently), Frantz Fanon. But I need to read recent authors like our own Chimammanda. Who else? Tell me!

Vitastraka,

I love your work! Its awesome! Especially your latest novel, "The Nairaland Thread" where, in the form of an internet chat site for Nigerians, you construct an entire free-form narrative composed from a miscellany of different voices talking about their favourite novelists. I also admire the way you interpolate yourself into the list of characters. Such irony.

Can't wait till the end of this groundbreaking work. Of course, I am also one of your characters - incredible imagination!
